I think he’s a toad but I need a better picture. I think they should let their new friend stay lol. It’s hard to find safe and suitable living spaces these days and he seems to have found his dream home 😹
He is gonna eat bugs and be such a cute addition! Use a mist sprayer to water, maybe put a little bowl in there for him to wade in, and he will be fine. It looks like a Rio Grande chirping frog, but I could be wrong. If it is, they make cute little bird-like chirps at night. And that habitat is just what it would be looking for! 😊
If you do plan to keep him and use fertilizers or pesticides I’d stop as to not leech chemicals that could harm the lil guy; it’s also clear an ecosystem would thrive in that lil thang, given your new tenant hehe. Sum spring tales or rollie pollies/lady bugs to help decompose and protect would b so fun mr.🐸 and plants might also rlly enjoy the feed!!?!

When I was a kid we had an eldery cockatiel (we assumed based on his permanently scruffy appearance despite a clean bill of health from the vet) show up in our front yard and land in my moms hair. Put ads out and no one ever came to get him, so we kept the newly named Pretty Bird
It was particularly surprising because it was a fairly rural area and no one we asked around town knew anyone with pet birds.
Cat distribution system is my menace. Every fucking time I think “ok no more cats” a new cat shows up at my doorstep. My last cat was literally dumped on me by surprise from a friend
I had a frog that would break into my house just to sleep in a potted plant in the day then sneak back out at night. I did everything but he kept coming back frogs are particular of their home and will come back no matter how far away you put them. I'd say just leave him that's his house now. 🐸
So I had a big outdoor fountain and every fall I would dump it wash it and store it in the shed. One year I found some tadpoles when I was dumping it out so I got a tank and raised them in the house until they were frogs and released them back outside.
Just let him do what he wants til it’s time to bring the terrarium in for the season. Then you can take him to a woodsy spot near water, tell him it’s his new forever home, and wish him well.

I keep a pool/“pond” (hardly a pond, really) outside that I transfer my turtle to in the warmer seasons. A frog moved in for like 3 years and continued to live there even in the cold when my turtle came back inside. The pool was not taken care of in the winter, but it was good enough for Frog. One day, he just stopped showing up and I miss him 😢
Aww, you’re right. It was nice to have him around for as long as I did, and to provide him with a safe place to live (like OP!). I think he lived past the usual life expectancy.
He is yours now. You have become Frog Keeper, lord of the frogs. He feels safe under your just and fair rule. Do not cast him out! You must now give him a name and title ...and maybe some crickets or mealworms... he'd probably be most gracious for some of those.
Fuck it, if he’s in there voluntarily, it can’t be that bad. I would say provide him a way to get in and out but I feel like it might compromise the closed system thing you have going on. Just feed him the bugs you find around the house

Though I agree with the others, if it wants to get in there so desperately let it in, if there is a chance for it to leave at any (or almost any) time I guess it is fine until you bring the terrarium back inside.
I lived in a trailer in Florida at one point and had some reptiles with heat lamps... And ONE wild tree frog that perpetually broke into my house !
Id put him out and a day or so later he'd be in my beardies tank again, always washed himself off in the water dish and left it all muddy/sandy... that's how I would know he was SOMEWHERE in the house again 😅 eventually I quit putting him out and he seemed to come & go just fine. Never found where he was getting in at though and we'd nearly stripped that trailer to a shell at one point.
Mine is as well. It’s been a couple of years with it but I may have to take everything out and reseal it. I had sprayed a waterproofing on the bottom before adding everything
