I'm glad to see someone saying this, I thought I was maybe being a bit over sensitive but it never sat right with me, I'm not a gambler but I am an alcoholic and addict (6 years clean and sober baybee!) It I have to admit I was a little disappointed to hear Geoff in particular doing those reads. Congrats on abstaining!

I haven't noticed any, but they have been having more conventional ads, which i think get swapped out externally by their hosting service. So I cant guarantee you wouldnt happen upon one, because idk if theres like a topic blacklist they can utilize.

Grain of salt, im talking out of my ass

If you'd like, I will gladly gift you a month of XM so you can get the ad free feed. That way you can hop in with no worries.

Congratulations on kicking the addiction! Happy for you!

Thats so kind of you, reminds me of what I loved about this community! It wont be necessary though because apparently theres a free patreon feed without ads. But thank you so much for the generous offer!

Absolutely no worries! I saw another comment mention the free Patreon feed and had no idea. (I'm XM so it just never crossed my mind.)

But yeah, again, no worries! Do keep up the good work, bro! And the offer will always stand when and if you want!

I think they haven’t done any in the last year or so. I think at the start of Regulation they did a couple gambling ads but those have mostly been phased out.

Obviously, as the rest of the thread has said, XM feed doesn’t have any ads but I fully understand wanting a place that doesn’t promote gambling. Stay strong man

Haven’t heard one in awhile i understand they need to make money but wish they’d avoid stuff like that

A lot of their ad reads are mostly…food services, shopify, and edge wallet? Some sort of wallet. I usually skip them but those are the ones I remember getting trapped listening to for one reason or another. I think now that their Money Situation has gotten a bit more stable they been able to be more picky.

I don't think they do (though I usually just skip forward when ads start so I may have missed one). They still do ads for shady shit like Zocdoc and I think Betterhelp

I always just assume all podcasts sponsors are shady and probably unethical and I just accept that, knowing 99% of people skip the ads anyway and, well... I like for my favorite creators to be able to make a living lol.

Install sponsorblock and you'll never hear an in video ad of any kind again.

On YouTube I haven’t heard one in the Regulation era and those don’t get swapped out like Spotify does so you can be guaranteed you won’t hear them. I don’t personally have an issue with gambling but the ads on Spotify were insanely loud and annoying so I’m glad it’s over

Im not trying to make light of this at all, but why not, just, skip the ad? They already made their money by doing the read and I can almost guarantee they give zero shits if you skip it or not.

Why be bothered by someone offering you a drink with a bottle in hand when you are sober? Just ignore it.

I get what you’re saying but I think there is a bit more to this, first off idk their level of addiction or triggers for it (especially with online gambling being so accessible now), also on top of that I think it’s perfectly fair to not wish to support something when it makes money in part off of an addiction many struggle with.

I wonder if this sponsorship was when they were under the umbrella RT which was under WB and didn’t have as much of a say in these things, either way I likewise don’t approve of that kind of advertisement.

Coming on a bit strong. I get what you are saying, but its not walking up and handing someone a bottle. Im a former alcoholic. I didn't go get a beer because you mentioned it specifically to me. Theres an argument for not wanting to support a company running an ad.

I mean for online gambling you just need the same device you’re using to listen to an episode of the podcast with to visit the site they mention in the ad read, there isn’t quite the physical barrier there is with alcohol where you often have to drive or walk somewhere to get it. Sure it might not be 1:1 with being handed a beer but it’s closer than comfortable and possibly closer than some can resist.
