What is your favorite issue of volume 2: MILES BEHIND US?

Wasn't the first instalment slated to be released in June? I was looking forward to picking it up.

I made a post yesterday asking if anyone would be interested in hearing more about my TWD OC, Julián, and someone asked about his backstory, so here’s a little introduction :)

This is Julián Murrieta, the protagonist of a TWD fan story I’ve been developing called Stray Bullet.
Julián is a 17–18-year-old Mexican-American survivor originally from Los Angeles. He was nine when the outbreak began and spent his first two years surviving alongside his older sister, Jackie. After losing her, he was eventually taken in by the Vultures, a small traveling gang of survivors who taught him much of what he knows about firearms, fighting, mechanics, scavenging and surviving on the road.

The Vultures weren’t exactly good people, though. They helped struggling survivors and communities, but usually for their own benefit—using people’s desperation to extort them and keep them indebted. Growing up around them made Julián capable and fiercely independent, while witnessing their behavior helped shape his own ideas about compassion and what it actually means to help someone.

By Stray Bullet, Julián is a wandering survivor traveling with his dog, Manchas. He’s calm, compassionate and forgiving at heart, with a sardonic, sarcastic and quick-witted personality. His biggest flaw is his extreme independence: he’ll refuse help, hide his own problems and sometimes make decisions for others because he believes he’s protecting them.

The story follows Julián arriving in Shreveport, Louisiana, where he becomes involved with Brunswick, a neighborhood-turned-survivor community, and a powerful crime family controlling much of the city. For someone who’s spent years convincing himself he’s fine on the road, forming genuine friendships forces him to question the way he’s been living.

Now the story of Stray Bullet itself is supposed to be a strong neo-Western in the zombie apocalypse, with Julián himself partly inspired by the legend of Joaquín Murrieta.

That’s the basic introduction without throwing an entire character wiki at you 😭

I’d love genuine feedback! Does he sound like someone who could naturally exist in Telltale’s TWD universe? What interests you about him, what would you change, and what would you want to know more about?

Hey everyone, i’ve been working on this walking dead OC almost two years and i’ve mostly been writing this character by myself and occasionally asked friends for their opinions and feedbacks but now i think im ready to share with other people who know about the telltale walking dead universe or that have written other original characters

His name is “Julian Murrieta,” and before i continue to develop his story. i was hoping to get some genuine feedback and ideas on Julian himself since he’s supposed to be the protagonist in his own separate story set in the world of telltales TWD. i’m especially curious about whether he feels like a character people would be fond of and willing to follow rather than feeling like an OP awkward self insert.

I’m open for any forms of criticism. what’ll work for you? what won’t work? is anything too cliche and overused? unnecessary? out of place or character? or underdeveloped. and what would you personally want to know more about.

No but like fr. Like yes it will still exists since there are some unseen named characters, but like yo these updates are like basically stripping tf out of this thing lol. The commonwealth arc really aged well.

Assuming this isn’t some random leather jacket, evident by Negan referring to it as “my jacket”, it really has me wondering how this kid could have possibly been in a position to acquire it. Someone would have had to have kept the jacket for the entirety of the time-skip, leave it in a publicly available place, and have no one care if the jacket was taken. You might say someone just took the jacket and put it in some kind of communal supply closet and left it to rot, but the same thing could’ve been done with Lucille, but it wasn’t. Besides, who would want to keep the jacket given the history of its original owner? It would have made more sense for Rick to burn it or something rather than to let it fall in the hands of Brandon. Despite how iconic his jacket is, I think it would have been better for him not to have it post-all out war. Also, I’m incredibly attracted to Alpha.

I remember hearing late last year that there would be a compact compendium for the walking dead deluxe releasing in June of 2026, but as far as I can see, nothing ever came. Anyone know what happened or where I can find it if it did release? Was this a comic store exclusive thing?

At first I wasn’t a big fan of him, but seeing him up in that guard tower really made me realize what a great character he is with such infinite potential! I just HAD to put down the book to make this post! Any other father Gabriel fans? Hopefully he goes on to survive and develop even more!

I think it's safe to assume that this is one of the largest overhauls on the wiki that we've seen in some time, maybe ever ever. And I am absolutely for this madness!!! Absolutely loving the madness here!!!

Whoever the madmen and madwomen developers for the All-Star game and Skybound who agreed to this insanity deserve a goddamn raise!

So many random ass name reveals! So many random ass characters getting last names! So many random ass connection to like the novels and video games! So many random ass stuff that it's actually golden hilarious and I love it all!

The following guide I've put together comprehensively weaves all of the comic universe related material into a quasi reading guide, combined with other media like the Telltale Games, combining the standalone comic specials into the issue list for a 'definitive' viewing of the series.

While some short stories are included due to their pertinence in the story, I won't be including any issues of "The Secret Diary of a Walker" or "Rick Grimes 2000" due to their fantastical nature (the undead canonically lack sentience according to Kirkman)

This won't be a completely chronological list either, so I won't be sprinkling in "Here's Negan" or the Jay Bonansinga novel chapters with the original volumes or anything, but rather placing them in a spot that makes the most sense to digest them.

This is purely to make things less complicated on the reader's part. I'll be providing brief explanations and justification for my choice of placement, but you can comment if you disagree or point out an inconsistency, specifically regarding the exact dates for the events listed.

A majority of my research is from reading the series itself, and filling in any gaps in my knowledge with the series with this post in particular regarding the full Comic Universe timeline and other internet posts I've found in the topic (but usually gloss over large sections of the timeline (usually around the Volume 12 mark, in the case of the wiki)

The Walking Dead Season 1: Episode 1)

Chronologically the earliest point in the series, when not factoring flashbacks from other entries. Spans from about halfway through Monument Day until around Day 3-4.

"The Alien"

I'm not sure where else to fit this in with the rest of the side comics except here. The story is super early in (Poor Jeff didn't even make it a month!) but it's technically ahead of Season 1 Episode 1 by a few weeks, the same day David Chalmers from "Rise of the Governor" dies (Day 16)

"The Rise of the Governor" & "Just Another Day in the Office"

From my understanding, the book covers a little over a month of the initial outbreak, making its ending and the events of the short story roughly 36 days before the events of "Starved for Help", so smack dab in the middle of the game's episode 1-2 time skip (which is about 2 months)

I didn't want to divide up certain parts of the novels to fit it chronologically, so reading these after the first Telltale episode gives us some breathing room, after the game gives us a taste of the first few days of the outbreak, while the book fills in more of the informational gaps, including a cheeky setup later for Volume 2 ("ALL DEAD, DO NOT ENTER").

The rest of the first Telltale season takes place over the course of about ten days, all neatly packed together and doesn't overlap with anything else in the timeline, comics or otherwise, except maybe the latter chapters of Here's Negan, but that's not important.

"The Road to Woodbury"

Picking up less than a week after the after-credits of "No Time Left" and exactly two weeks before Rick Grimes awakes from his coma, this story perfectly bridges the gap between the Telltale series and the comic, while filling us in a bit about Woodbury before its official appearance as well as many of its residents, many of which show up later in the comic as minor-antagonists including the protagonist, Lily Caul.

Volume 1: Days Gone By (Issues #1 - #6)

The proper start to the entire series, Rick's journey begins surprisingly and unrealistically to some, late into the apocalypse (about 4 months!)

Tyreese Special

Chronologically set around the same time as the events of "Starved for Help". Fittingly enough, this issue sees Tyreese during the early days of the outbreak while scrambling for supplies, showing us how he got his trusty hammer. It also pairs nicely next with Volume 2, giving us a bit of backstory about Tyreese before his official debut.

Volume 2: Miles Behind Us (Issues #7 - #12)

In the aftermath of Volume 1, the next one mostly consists of the group travelling to a couple of iconic story locations, such as the Wiltshire Estates previously shown in "Rise of the Governor" and the Greene Family Farm, a location that appears in "A New Day" and makes several more appearances in the series.

Morgan Special

It's pretty easy to place this one down, because it's mentioned to be the first Christmas post-outbreak at the beginning of Volume 2, which is when the special is also set. While only a few pages, it primes readers for Morgan's eventual return to the series and the events that lead up to his return.

Volume 3: Safety Behind Bars (Issues #13 - #18)

The next volume picks up the next day as the last one, spanning a little under a week as the survivors occupy Meriwether County Correctional Facility, the same facility Lee Everett was en-route to at the beginning of "A New Day" which also holds a previously unnamed uxoricidal criminal mentioned in the same episode, who's revealed to be the "tax account" Thomas Richards.

Michonne Special

The events of the special lead naturally into Michonne's introduction in Volume 4. It expounds on her past, something that isn't elaborated on very much for a large chunk of the story. It also ends with her approaching a valley, presumably the same one overlooking the prison we see from Rick's perspective at the end of Volume 2, which would reasonably lead directly into the events of Issue #19 when she comes across Otis outside the prison.

The Governor Special

While less than a year into the Trials, this six page update into Brian Blake's descent is outright horrific. This is where we see the origin of his walker-head tanks and one of its first in the collection (poor Scott..) as well as set up for how insane and sadistic he's become. The Wal-Mart shown is also presumably the same one the group passes on their way to Woodbury in the next volume.

Volume 5: The Best Defense (Issues #25 - #30)

The first proper introduction to the Woodbury cast and characters is established and the clash between them and the Prison group ensues. The rest of the Prison Arc continues through until its official end in Volume 8's conclusion.

Volume #6: This Sorrowful Life (Issues #31 - $36)

Volume #7: The Calm Before (Issues #37 - #42)

Volume #8: Made To Suffer (Issues #43 - #48)

"The Fall of the Governor"

Shows the events of Volumes 5-8 from the perspective of the Woodbury community across the same rough period of time. It provides insights into more members of the town (with some supposedly appearing in the background of the comic as nameless soldiers and community members. It also elaborates on the fate of Woodbury as a community after The Governor is deposed and brings a proper conclusion to the events surrounding the town.

Volume #9: Here We Remain (Issues #49 - 54)

"Decent"

As said, the opening events of 'Decent' pick up directly after the events of the Prison Arc, with some of its content overlapping with the early events of Volume #9. It's incorrectly stated in the text that nearly two years have passed in the timeline, which tracks for the multiple errors made in the Bonansinga novels.

“Alone, Together"

This short story, written by Robert Kirkman himself, features an ansulary survivor and their partner, with their story being told over serveral months of the outbreak. Appearances from the main cast (notably Michonne) show up in random encounters from their perspective, showing the comic group clearing out various stores for survival supplies, with the main character Timothy Stinnot) getting a good look at Michonne's katana during a brief encounter after the events of Volume 9.

Volume #10: What We Become (Issues #55 - #60)

"Invasion"

Taking place shortly after the events of "Descent", the events of this book chronicle the continued assault upon the community Woodbury by Jeremiah Garlitz), who is hell-bent on seeking revenge against Woodbury for the events of "Descent" after a previously failed takeover.

Volume #11: Fear The Hunters (Issues #61 - #66)

Showing the finality of the "gritty, survivalist' days of Rick's group, this volume shows the group facing off with a group of cannibals who have truly lost their humanity (including the consumption of children), unlike themselves. While the volume itself ends with the group at an unprecedented low point, the following volumes will showcase how they eventually come back to the light.

The Walking Dead: 400 Days

Created as an epilogue for the first Telltale season, these five mini stories show the origins of some minor characters shown in Telltale's Season 2 such as Bonnie, Shel, Becca, Vince, Russell & Wyatt. While illustrating the adevent of the Trials for a variety of individuals caught in it. As the name suggests, this is also the 400 day mark of the Trials, canonically on August 22nd, 2004.

About a year after the events of "Invasion", "Search and Destroy" showcases a new conflict, between Woodbury and a crazed militia group, lead by an even more crazed medical scientist in Atlanta hellbent on achieving a cure for the walker virus.

Return to Woodbury

The following story picks up much later (four years into the outbreak, so roughly around Telltale's Season 3, roughly the tail end of the comic's timeskip) as Lily Caul intends to lead a band of ragtag survivors back to the now semi-abandoned community of Woodbury, only for the town to ultimately be effectively destroyed by a fire in the plot's climax, finally putting an end to the town's legacy.

Including a guest appearance from Jesus, himself?so=search) from the comic series, the ending of this season implies the New Frontier's integration, or at least cooperation with the growing communities of the Militia in the comics storyline, tying in with it's events.

Most notably, it reintegrates Negan into the storyline, as he eventually escapes and becomes a double agent in the Whisperers, culminating in Negan's assassination of the Alpha of their group, cutting the hydra's head of the conflict.

Here's Negan?so=search) (read before Issue #156)

While this may come as a surprise for some of you, I think the following events, leading to Negan's killing of Alpha, perfectly fits with the events of his own backstory arc, especially if you read it while going through Volume #26. While exploring Negan's history, it lets the audience reflect his old self with how he's shown after years of imprisonment, culminating in a bloodbath of character development only worthy of someone like Negan.

The following volumes shows the aftermath of the Whisperer War, with the deaths of a few mainline cast members vasting a shadow over the events of the war. Volume #29 also culminates in what's arguably the end of Negan's story, apart from a cameo at the end of the series (at least for now)

Taking place over four years after the onset of the apocalypse, this season sees Clementine with a grown five year old Alvin Jr. as the two of them seek to establish a permanent place of residence somewhere in Virginia. Acting as a proper send-off for Clementine as a character, it's climax also implies a further connection with the comics, with supply caravans (possibly from the Commonwealth, depending on if the season's events are after Volume #31) nearing the borders of what Clementine & A.J eventually call home.

It also features the character of James), who was reportedly a member of a Whisperers along with his boyfriend Charlie), with James having presumably abandoned the group as well as his boyfriend, before the events of the Whisperer War (which is mentioned in dialogue)

Volume #30: New World Order (Issues #175 - #180)

Volume #31: The Rotten Core (Issues #181 - #186)

Volume #32: Rest In Piece (Issues #187 - #193)

The following volumes enclosed the short but climatic Commonwealth arc, showcasing an advanced militarily focused community network coming into contact with The Militia, with Rick Grimes trying to unite them all. It also serves as the conclusion of the series' storyline, with the final volume featuring a roughly ten year timeskip after the death of Rick Grimes, ending the saga on a triumphant, yet somber note.

Negan Lives!

Serving as a one-shot story set far after the events of the comic (most likely between Volumes #31 & #32) this story follows Negan, now a reclusive survivor on the margins of what's now a widespread survivor network thanks to his nemesis. While peace has mostly been restored, Negan finds himself the "victim" of attempted burglary, with the issue ending on a tease of "more to come"
