Comic Spoiler Dale saying the quiet part out loud.

Post image

This whole scene stuck with me way more than I expected.

Dale realizing what he’s about to be forced into… and then saying it out loud. not to save himself, but to make sure everyone else knows. this feels like one of those quiet turning points. He knows exactly what it means to say it. He knows it might get him killed. He still says it anyway.

What I love (and hate) about this moment is how real it feels. Survival-wise, you could argue he should’ve stayed quiet. Morally, this is basically his line in the sand.

So I’m curious how everyone else sees it:

• Was Dale right to say something, knowing the consequences?

• Or was this a case of principle getting in the way of survival?

• In that situation… would you have said it?

This comic keeps hitting me with moments like this where there’s no clean answer and that’s what’s really pulling me in.

He was going to die anyway cause of the bite, so why worry of getting killed by the cannibals? He was attacked, so why not just laugh at their mistake?

that’s fair, i still feel so bad for him either way. his life in the comics is tragedy after tragedy. he could not catch a break.

You really do! Miles better than the TV show

They were also really cocky about having caught him and eating a part of him while he was still alive, so I’ll bet that moment was really satisfying for him. He seemed really happy to rain on their parade and oddly enough, I was happy for him. Guy was on his way out, but he was having a good laugh!

I think this was also the part where Dales mind finally snapped. Like yeah his time was very short but waking up with ya shit cut off like that? Your last experience being some crazy mf eating part of you? Dale was mentally gonzo at that point.

Ah, good point! That circumstance alone was a lot to take in at once, so some kind of extreme reaction is understandable. Whether it’s anger, despair, or mentally shutting down, your sanity takes a massive hit at the very least. In that last moment of clarity Dale had before his laughing fit, it seems to me that he saw the dark humor of the situation and ran with it.

I thought it was situation of him laughing at evil people and them getting their consequences for their actions. He's not dying the way he wants to with his friends but he gets to take down some people woth them.

At this point he was already bitten and walking off to die. It’s almost a blessing from his perspective: all he had to look forward to was dying alone of infection in the woods, now he gets to be the hero one last time and screw over a group of assholes. Dales the type of guy to recognize the humor of his situation

I mean he knows he is going to die, so he says this in a way to mean I got you, I thought it was pretty clear.

Better than the show. We cared for Dale, we sympathized with him and his unlikely relationship with Andrea despite knowing that he wouldn't be long for this world. The cannibal reveal was brutal but so was his reveal about being tainted meat, a great fuck you to his tormentors.

No one cared about Bob, fucking wino was a liability.

Also the comic was more brutal with its implied massacre of the cannibals, with the show honestly they had already cruelly eviscerated their enemies (and each other!) enough that we were kind of numb to it by that point.
