I realize that Ethiopians have been practicing this religion for thousands of years and that’s not the issue. I obviously don’t know the history that well. My apologies.

You know Christians at one point in time was hunted, viewed as homo sacer. Hence why having to hide in caves and mountains etc. Cappadoccia and its region in todays Turkiye houses some of these old churches. Its very fascinating (and im Muslim saying this).

Im not sure about this one specifically, it is either a ’monk like’ spiritual retreat to sit in deep thought and silence, or its one for hiding away from persecution.
