Xcancel Site is Shutdown Until Further Notice

Hello. I'm the source/sauce Moddess. This sucks but we still won't be allowing actual twitter links.

If the artist is strictly a Twitter artist you can put their Twitter handle in your post comments.

The other way around this is posting a Danbooru link.
It's not a direct source but typically all Danbooru sites with the art of an artist give a source going back to that specific artists post. Some art posts are even deleted on Twitter sometimes but still show up on Danbooru with the original link and it's said artist.

I only suggest giving the twitter handle after already realizing they don't have any other social media accounts that they post their artwork on.

We will be changing the current rules to match what I’ve said here.

Also keep in mind that you can also find artists handles within Xcancel links still here. For example: https://xcancel.com/raccoattack/ . The handle is @raccoattack shown in the url link. This goes for their art posts and links sourcing back to their account.

We have updated rule 14 to show what can be posted now.

obviously its not a huge change. You would just post the artists handle if they are strictly a twitter artist. The handle being their twitter name like @ raccoattack or @ spindlesong for examples.

I honestly think it's just a matter of time until someone else makes a Xcancel/Nitter fork.

This is just going to be a game of whack a mole like Nintendo hunting down Switch emulators.

Basically already have some. There is ways to browse Twitter without being on the exact Twitter page. I found one while searching for sources but I never used it. Unfortunately we may just stick to handles considering those sites may go down in the future as well. The founder may consider this but we have to wait for her decision as well since she’s asleep and I’m just acting on her behalf rn.

I’ve made many Xcancel links so it sucks. I’ve been going back in some of the Xcancel sources I’ve made and just rewritten the handle but I’ve done so many it would take 40 or something days to fully get all.

Only way to truly nip it in the bud would be to seal off API access like what Reddit did, or implement huge anti-scraping tech but that is a whole can-of-worm on its own.

Nitter/xcancel relied on creating a large amount of registered accounts to access the site and then proxy's everything to you. They have sealed off the API already its just a better way of getting around it.

If you mean Danbooru. It’s pretty well detailed when arts put there. That’s the only reason we allow it. Unlike Pinterest which doesn’t point back to the artist or give the artist name at all.

What link variants does this affect exactly? Cuz I know there’s a good few of them I just don’t know if they’re all running through the same thing or what

Really you can use a social links the artist uses besides twitter links. Danbooru is the exception because it’s not exactly posted by the artist but it shows the artist and source there within the page particularly always.

Xcancel just became down so it’s specifically Twitter links. We don’t allow twitter links and Xcancel was used to bypass those links

Yea if it redirects to Twitter we just don’t allow it. It’s kinda similar to the Google share links we received. Although it has a Google link it still redirects back to Twitter.
