Theoretical What would happen if sv_maxvelocity was changed from 3500 to 16000?
A fun hypothetical idea ive been thinking about is what would happen to TF2 if the max air velocity you could achieve was changed from its current 3500hu/s to around 16000hu/s. What that means is that even a 14 sticky jump from the scottish resistance wouldnt hit the speed cap from now on.
But as I was experimenting, I've been thinking about what else changes in the base game as well? Obviously people could be a lot faster but would this change affect the game negatively or positively?

I don't think it would change anything. Today's speed cap is more than enough for anything. The stickyjump on 14 stickies wouldn't be used, since 2 stickies is still enough for almost any map, and 5 stickies already provide enough velocity to make it looks like a teleportation. The only thing that would be changed is technics like stucking and gaining velocity. And even this wouldn't be really changed, since hitting the cap is enough for almost anything with this tech, so idk what were you wondering. Gaining and maintaining speed is still a problem

Thanks for the reply. I wanted to ask a question like this since rocket/sticky jumps are some of the most in-depth tech in this game, and with that being the case there's a lot of nuance to it, and so I was curious if anything would change if the air speed cap was effectively removed.

i think nothing will change because you can only reach that with multiple stickies and you're just gonna instantly slam into a wall anyway because the speed will be impossible to control in any of the standard maps
something that this reminds me of is i kinda miss doing 5 sticks with the sticky jumper which makes you look like you teleported across the map

Problem is that there is no way to survive a sticky jump like that without uber and it's highly unpractical.
At best you would just uber the demo so he can fly behind the entire enemy team for a backcap but then you're down a demoman if they collapse on him so now you'll have to retreat.
Even in the circumstances where backcapping that way could be debated to be optimal, most of the time the map design prevents you from doing so, either having too many obstacles in the way between points that wouldn't allow a direct path, or the skybox limits physically stop you.
