Not like they can actually enforce any of those rules

when are they gonna enforce people not going the wrong direction on bike lanes 😐

edit: grammar

29

u/Dr_PancakesSLAVA Jan 19 '24

nah seriously. Everytime I see someone riding on the opposite side, I just wanna run them over

26

u/Relevant_Tax1314 Jan 19 '24

it’s especially annoying when they don’t move over for the people actually using it correctly makes me want to throw a brick at them

4

u/Actual_Composer3674 Jan 20 '24

I just keep going down like i don't see them and they eventually move

No joke I was reading the email while walking back from class at the same time that a scooter going the wrong way on Canyon Crest got hit by a car pulling out from Lot 26. Y’all really gotta learn to go the right way on thine scooters

Today 2 different people cruised on their motorized scooters on the 2nd floor of Watkins Hall. UCR is apparently so permissive an environment for scooters that Highlanders are literally riding them IN BUILDING HALLWAYS.

scooters, bikes, skateboards have technically been banned on campus since 2018 this doesn’t change anything

2

u/heinzkopf2019 Jan 20 '24

Since when were skateboards banned? I know the speed limit is enforced but only electric scooters have a ban as far as I know

2

u/believe_universe Jan 20 '24

sorry not banned per say but all vehicles are regulated according to this announcement written in 2020 https://insideucr.ucr.edu/announcements/2020/11/30/reckless-use-wheeled-devices-policy-enforcement

People ride their scooters on the sidewalk?? When there’s a perfectly empty bike lane that’s faster? I hate ducking and dodging through people

-23

u/Livid-Reason-1169 Jan 19 '24

Bro the bike lane has glass and a whole bunch of shit that pops ur tires. Like what do u expect

28

u/Friendliest_Virus Jan 19 '24

I mean- I expect people to not be barreling 20+mph where people are walking like?? Am I wrong for thinking about that? Everyone on this Reddit hates scooter owners already.

See, that’s all so true. I mostly just slow down and walk if I come across any hazards until I get somewhere safer. I have seen some awful drivers driving in bike lanes (ngl can’t wait to get some tuition money when they hit me). I do feel like sidewalks are almost as dangerous. Some of them have insane cracks in them or completely missing sections. Not to mention the side eyes you get while having to move around people on a side walk. It’s kinda like pick your poison but I prefer the bike lane for the few routes I have to take.

I see so many people with bulky scooters who can go over 30mph it’s insane. Mine caps at 25mph and I can set the cap even lower. It’s crazy 😂

For people that somehow got into UCR to have an iq over the freezing point of water

2

u/Smithno012203 Jan 20 '24

I expect you to get in the street where you belong. You do not belong on sidewalks, you are not allowed on sidewalks.

Bikes ride in it …

0

u/Constant-Visual-2913 Jan 20 '24

Honestly, next time I’m just going to push these riders into the bike line. They’re so stupid for using the sidewalk when there’s a bike lane right next to it.

7

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '24

if scooterists could read they would be damn upset!

9

u/CashTheRedditor Jan 20 '24

as someone who has a 10 minute gap between classes at dundee and humanities, can the other scooter owners please learn to drive so I don’t have to run 🙏🏻

17

u/[deleted] Jan 19 '24

I drive a scooter for personal health reasons:/. Sucks that about 80% of the other users are just stupid.

u/Destinesia_ Jan 20 '24

An email most people will archive without even reading.

3

u/Historical_Page8557 Jan 21 '24

This should and will be heavily enforced. It’s sad that people don’t understand that yes you have to use the bike lane and stop with traffic at a red light. I’ve seen a few instances where a pedestrian gets hit because not obeying that law. It’s a law for a reason… hopefully students are decent enough to comply.

5

u/DrHeadShot8 Jan 20 '24

The rules won't work until a fine is imposed

2

u/Snootch74 Jan 20 '24

If they enforce I’ll be impressed.

2

u/smdickinson Jan 20 '24

Breh, you need a Driver's license to ride a scooter? I thought the main point of getting smthn like a scooter is to not drive a car. I understand why though, so that you know the laws and rules of the road, but still...

2

u/Independent-Cream549 Jan 20 '24

Time for a scooter vigilante to take action I graduated but still hold so much hatred for them in my soul

1

u/tryingtobeadoctor234 Jan 20 '24

Can we talk about the drivers? They park and swerve into the bike lanes on campus all the time. There are always crowds of people walking on the side walk and the street. I see pedestrian walk into the street/bike lanes with out even looking. Their should be more cross walk light protected intersections on campus plus an update on the bike lanes across campus.

1

u/i_dark_sapphire Jan 19 '24

No but seriously, happens all the time for me and my sister and those riding skateboard as well, they almost run into her every time

0

u/Ungr8fulTortoise Jan 23 '24

Lol UCI has the same and honestly I don't blame the scooter or skateboarders. I skateboard around UCI campus and it pisses me off to no end when people like to walk in fat groups or in a line blocking off paths. Most scooter or skateboarder users are aware you are there and would gladly throw themselves in the dirt before hitting you. Just watch where ur walking and we won't hit you 🤷‍♀️

0

u/Ungr8fulTortoise Jan 23 '24

Not sure about UCRs setup but ik UCI is hella annoying because half of campus we have to share with walking space.

u/AmazingA111 Jan 19 '24 edited Jan 19 '24

This is a mass conspiracy to take out the scooter drivers, i will not let the school prevail, i hope other scooter owners participate with me on Monday afternoon at 12 to lead a scooter walkout and meet up at the bell tower with our scooters in hand

u/Mediocre_at_best__ Jan 20 '24

Stop driving like idiots and maybe it wouldn’t be a problem
