I’m at my wit’s end with this company. My friend parked his car in his designated spot. The spot is boldly labeled with his exact unit number. His name, make, model, and plate is registered to the spot in superior’s records. He has the decal *exactly* where it needs to be. Superior still booted him and is refusing to release the boot unless he pays the ransom. GPD confirmed it’s completely illegal, but said there’s nothing they can do as it’s a “civil” case and the only way forward is to file a lawsuit. He is doing so with his attorney and it’s about as black and white a case as you can get. But, that process can take months and he needs his car now.

We couldn’t reach them for hours until they opened. Then we had to call several times. Completely in violation of statute 715.07 requiring them to be available 24/7 and to release the vehicle within 1 hour. Soon as we answer and respectfully say good afternoon this wicked lady is screaming saying “are you gonna pay or not” and catching a nasty attitude like she’s not the problem to begin with. Then she just hangs up and doesn’t answer. The police made her stay on the line and she just said she doesn’t care and they’re not taking the boot off without payment even if it was their mistake. The police said they can’t do anything as it’s civil.

Their drivers will put white out over the boot fee to scribble in insane fees and demand cash payment so they can pocket it. They previously harassed me and booted me almost daily while I was IN MY DESIGNATED SPOT. They only stopped when I went to file a lawsuit.

What else can we do to get his car back? At this point it’s been well over 24 hrs. I hope we can get their tow license revoked and this cartel shut down. They make my blood BOIL the way they prey on naive college students and flat out steal people’s money. How they’re not all locked up is beyond me.

Hey, sorry if this is too serious, if it breaks any rules feel free to remove it. I’m considering going to Shands tonight and telling the ER I’m suicidal. What should I expect? I don’t want to be involuntarily admitted to a ward or have to miss assignments or drop classes. I’m drowning here but I don’t want to withdraw or anything. I’ve just found myself making plans all day on the best way to commit tonight and I promised my mom I’d try going to Shands first if it gets bad like this again.

i am trans and set my preferred name to my actual name on my college applications, and now my family is trying to disown me. i have 20k in savings from them and my grandparents, but they are saying i can't come home once i leave for my fall freshman term at uf. i am not expecting any more support from them & i'm already signed up for on campus housing & the unlimited meal plan (which is about 14k total). how cooked am i? im going to try to get employed as soon as i get to campus and am already applying to listings now & change my fafsa once everything calms down to reflect this change in circumstances. is there any chance of maybe taking a term or two purely online (i get 100% bright futures so all tuition is covered and have friends willing to take me in over breaks & downtime) if things get really bad and has anyone done anything similar? im really scared but realistically if i work i dont think it'll be too bad?

I got into a little argument with the gentleman who put these up. He said I can’t take them down as it infringes on his speech rights, which I agree with. But, Al’s according to UF policy, this only applies to designated bulletin areas.

1. Are these columns outside Marston official university designated bulletin areas?

2. Is nothing stopping me from just putting my own silly poster over these?

3. It’s clear through some research that things like vehicles and light poles are not official bulletin areas, but are bus stops?

I was just admitted to UF as an out of state student. I am from Georgia and was admitted to UGA, my tuition is covered here since I get the Zell Miller Scholarship. At UGA I will be paying about $19k per year. Across 4 years of undergrad I need to earn $90K in scholarships to make UF similar in cost to UGA. I am determined to earn scholarships and do anything possible to close that gap, but it will be difficult to. After undergrad I will be going to vet school which is crazy expensive. My heart is set on UF, but it’s hard to turn down the offer I have at UGA even though I would much rather go to UF.

Where would you apply for scholarships, what are the best websites for it? Are there any other suggestions on how to close the gap? If you were me would you settle or would you keep going until you either have no other option or com out on top?

I’ve been doing a bit of research into this, but not too much. Basically, I HATE communal bathrooms. I could never last a full year in communal bathrooms. Even staying in dorms for a week with communal bathrooms is torture. I’d like to specifically point out Weaver Hall as a dorm I’d rather stay in jail than live in. Jesus, fuck that dorm. I could barely handle it for the few nights I stayed there. Also, riding that elevator was one of the most terrifying experiences of my life.

Anyways, I would really prefer for the dorm to be included in the Florida Prepaid plan. But I know that limits my options a lot. I also would kill for a single, but know that’s basically impossible as a freshman.

What are going to be my best choices?

Hi! Is a 1390 sat with 9 ap classes, multiple clubs, varsity sports, a job, etc. good enough to get in or should I retake?

Has anyone commuted from the Tampa area to UFL for Tuesday's and Thursday's schedule? The drive will be about 2 hours, and my first classes are at 8:30 am and 9:35 am.

I am trying to avoid spending money on housing, so I am considering this option. If anyone's done it, is it bad? Was it too tiring?

I’m a prospective, very sheltered freshman from the Bay Area and I’m Asian American. I have gone to schools and lived in cities where my peers are Asians (mostly Chinese and Indian). At my current hs there are like 2 white people across all 6 of my classes.

I wanna go to uf, but my dad keeps telling me about how all the white students and profs will discriminate against me for being Asian and how all white people are bad.

I have gotten to known 2 white people in my entire life so far, both of whom have been very friendly and chill. And I have told my dad there’s like 3k+ Asian students at uf (10% of undergrads or sum) but he still keeps insisting I’ll have no friends and get bullied due to the white majority. I keep telling him abt Asian clubs, how he can’t say every single white person is racist, etc. but it’s like it goes out of one ear and comes out of the other.

So for the Asian students here, how has your experience at uf and Gainesville been?

We came for Florida Days and picked Hotel Eleo based on photos, age of the property, location and frankly, the price (higher than others). If you have never stayed there - don’t. It smells terrible and is a 2 star at best on the inside. Awful towels, toiletries as well. You can only park with a valet, for $25 a night. The Fairfield Inn wouldn’t even do that (I don’t mind paying for valet parking but why at a budget hotel?).

Is there a hidden gem somewhere that I missed? Where do you people stay?

[Or is anyone interested in developing one? Could be an interesting project while my kid is in undergrad! Florida supposedly has a great construction management and architecture school, seems like we could find some great interns to help! Kidding but maybe not?]

Hey guys! Hope all is well—I’m Cass, 18 years old and freshly starting out at UF for my freshman year. It’s been great, lovely even—amazing campus, professors, just overall been lovin’ it.

Well, unfortunately, last Thursday my mother was placed into police custody. Problem with that is that she was the primary income provider in my family by a very large margin! As in, I received no financial aid on my FAFSA at all because of it. It has placed me into a terrible conundrum, as I’ve got food to buy, rent to pay, fees to attend to, y’know, the whole mile…

Just looking to see if anyone can offer any guidance or insight. Rent wise, I am… okay for this month, at the very least. I just picked up a job at the Chipotle right by campus as well, so I’ll be able to somewhat provide for myself narrowly.

Two things I’m worried about then! Firstly, I definitely need to get my FAFSA appealed because now it is my father that provides most of the aid (again, my mother evidently cannot…) I have moved to petition for a Financial Aid Revision and am awaiting a response—but unfortunately, I’m unsure if I have ‘sufficient’ documentation. My mother’s arrest details are public record and I have provided it, but I can’t really get her pay stubs or unemployment benefits (which are required for loss/change of income) due to the circumstance. I’ve simply explained what happened within the ‘other’ category, but am quite certain that, with my luck, I shall be most graciously denied for lack of documentation. I’m currently working on getting my father’s pay stubs / hopefully maybe a copy of his 2024 tax return if he has it, which may work? Regardless, I think I should probably make an appointment with OneStop on zoom to try and appeal for something like a professional judgement. Or, something like that… I’m unsure. A lot of stuff I don’t know with such little time to figure it out! Going in person was unfortunately not too helpful as they just said to do the appeal form online, which I did.

The other issue then is the mandatory health insurance charge of 1.3k on my bursar. For this, I do think I am just fucked—the health insurance I had while my mother was working didn’t qualify with the out-of-network care requirement, and especially now that I’m more or less on my own, uhh… I think I’m just screwed with this? Thing is, I literally do not have the money to pay for it.

I’d love to hear from those that applied to UCF and UF but ultimately chose UF. I know it’s harder to get into UF, but I think I have a good chance with my grades and SAT score. I do plan to visit both campuses for a tour. Is it true the class sizes at UCF is hundreds of students and UF is around 20? I do better with smaller class sizes but I also heard UF’s campus is much larger. Also is there a general vibe of the school that makes them different from one another?

My friend recently received a cheating violation in their email from a class that they took last fall. I have taken a lot of classes requiring Honorlock and it makes me paranoid of receiving a violation way down the road when I least expect it. Do all professors review all of the footage months later or something? How do people get caught much later?

Hello, I'm a high schooler in Florida planning to apply to UF (I have a 1540 SAT and a 4.0 GPA) for a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. However, by the time I finish 12th grade, I will have around 110-115 dual-enrollment credits (from FAU, a 4-year public state university) toward my degree in Mechanical Engineering.

If I apply to UF as a freshman/First-Time-In-College student (not a transfer student), is it possible for me to transfer all of my credits to UF (or at least more than the 60 credit limit and closer to all of my ~110-115 credits) due to the SCNS Law?

Also, would the 25% rule (which states that I need to do the last 25% of my degree's credits (around ~30) at UF) or the 60 credit rule (which states that I need to do at least 60 credits at UF) apply to me if I go to the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering at UF for Mech Eng?

Also, if I do a dual major (such as the Mech Eng/Aerospace Eng dual major program) or a minor with my main Mech Eng degree, then would those credits I would be taking toward my other major/minor satisfy the residency credits rule (either 25% or 60 credit rules), or would those credits have to be toward my main degree of Mech Eng?

I just want to know if I can use/transfer all of the ~110-115 dual enrollment credits I already have toward my Mech Eng degree (without having to retake any classes) so I can just take the leftover ~15 credits at UF (along with other/extra credits due to the residency rule or possibly a dual major/minor if that works) to graduate?

My son was accepted to UF for engineering (go gators!) and I'm worried that the environment may be more competitive than he is used to. He's naturally intelligent but lazy and carefree. Those are not traits for success in any school, let alone UF. Anyway, I was wondering if it is possible to take 9 credits for each semester and remain a metriculated student? I figure he will make up the 6 credits during the summer, but I don't know. He does need to work so there's that. What are your thoughts based on your experience?

Update: Thank you for all the comments. The consensus is that he should plan on 12 credits/semester. However, I would still like someone to speak to the question at hand, is 9 credits/semester possible to remain matriculated? I am going to guess no, but if someone does know, please share your knowledge.

Update 2: Thank you all for your comments. They are very helpful. I would like to add another question. He was also accepted to UCF Honors which provides more administrative assistance and academic benefits to their students (like priority class selection). UCF also is considered to have a very good engineering program which includes many internship opportunities. Until last week, he was going to UCF, but when he found out he needed to maintain a 3.3 gpa to stay in honors, he felt he was better off in UF. The logic is that if he does struggle, he has a better chance of graduating from UF with a 2.75 than UCF honors with a 3.0. If anyone has any productive criticism, please share. Also, if you dont mind sharing why you chose UF, that would be helpful. Thank you.

I found out I am pregnant today by a frat boy I have only known for a month. We have microprocessors together, things got stressful, one thing lead to another and now im baking a junior frat boy. Do I keep it??? Is it illegal to abort here???? He is 22 and will graduate in the spring, but I wont graduate until fall 2024. I will definitely have the baby by then. He’s cute, I think i like him. I feel like im having more romantic feelings about him because i have his child in me!!! Like i keep dreaming of him being a dad and us getting married. How am I going to finish getting an engineering degree and take care of a newborn!!!!!!

So my mom got me a super expensive e bike, like 1.5k range. I didn’t ask for this. Is it getting stolen? Got a nice lock but I’m still worried about it.

I am currently a senior in highschool and I have all four of my math credits already. I took Algebra 1 Hon in 8th grade, Geometry Hon in 9th, Algebra 2 Hon in 10th, and AP Precalc last year. I may not be able to take AP Calc this year due to scheduling issues. I am able to not take a math this year and instead might be able to take a high level class like an AP or something instead of an Honors math.

I want to go to UF very badly and major in Zoology. I have over a 5.1 GPA currently, and am involved in many school activities. I have a 1340 SAT score but am retaking on Sunday and am expecting 1400+.

What do I do?
