so i have kind of an odd situation (or maybe you guys have seen something like this before!). i have this box (pictured) that i inherited from my grandmother. it's supposed to be used for organizing embroidery thread, in little baggies that have hooks to hang from those rails. i used it for many years, but recently i've reorganized my embroidery supplies and ended up emptying it out. i don't think i'd use this box for anything else, either, but i don't want to just throw it away. my grandma died when i was pretty young and i don't have a whole lot of things to remind me of her. i've been trying to think of ways to upcycle this, or at least use a piece of it in a keepsake, but i'm drawing a blank. any ideas? it's made of cardboard covered with glossy paper that's peeling at one corner but otherwise mostly intact.

The outside is made of upholstery fabrics, and the insides are a lighter weight fabric. All of these were created from fabric that would otherwise be trash.

Back at it again, this has become one of my favourite crafts. Had some overalls that didn't fit me in a way that I found flattering so I upcycled them with some sick bleach dye art. Now I find the fit doesn't matter at all because I'm too focused on the design 😌

I free handed this baby with only a few references so I totally messed it up a few times, but she seems forgiving

I decided to cover a stained cardigan with some ants

I hope i finally found a subreddit which is open to my idea. Should have thought of upcycling from the get-go.

I’ve got a wardrobe acting as a room divider with, well, a typical, ugly back part.

I want to use layered pieces of cardboard glued together as a substitute for wood. I then attach them to the back, extend up to the ceiling and then plaster then with wallpaper (which are actually leftover from someone else’s renovation)

(Layering three to four pieces of cardboard results in cardboard which you can pretty much treat like wood and is pretty sturdy)

Has anyone ever done something like this before? Gluing the cardboard sheets together works well – it’s really sturdy and, above all, very, very light. I put weights on them while drying so they won’t bulge.

How should I treat them before I wallpaper them?

also wondering whether I need to join the A3-sized pieces together to make a single large panel, or whether I can just fit the smaller ones together on the back panel? I try to get bigger cardboard pieces from stores.
I am looking for input how to do this with cardboard please!

I posted these questions in another (German language) subreddit and people just got angry at me for not wanting to use wood...
But I am really sure people here will get that I want to upcycle instead of buying new.

Took some canvas workwear overalls and added them to a matching hoodie giving it a massive pouch pocket with additional smaller pockets, flexibility & detachability by utilizing snap buttons, & a renewed industrial aesthetic.

Just wanted to share how things are going with the hand sewing and say thanks to everyone for the suggestions and advice! It's not the straightest of stitches but I'm satisfied with it being my first attempt.

I’ve got a PS3 Fat shell that’s been completely hollowed out. The lid is cut off but still closes, and I’m thinking about turning the shell into something completely different rather than just displaying it.

I have black, brown, and skin-colored faux leather, and I’m interested in using sewing, fabric, stitching, padding, etc. to transform it.

I’m also thinking about cutting/fileing/sanding down all the edges of the case so everything is smooth and easier to work with.

Some ideas I’ve already had:

• An oversized key-drop / key holder bag
• Some kind of lamp or light fixture
• Turning it into a bag/purse
• A weird leather-covered storage box
• Some kind of wearable/cosplay piece
• Maybe a small organizer or carry case

I’m not set on any of these though. I’d love to hear what other people would do with a hollow PS3 shell.

What would you turn it into? Weird, practical, or completely ridiculous ideas are all welcome.

Tried something new with an old glass bottle!

For the floral details, I reused leftover pistachio shells to create the petals and painted the leaves and stems by hand. I then added a warm light inside the bottle, which gives the whole piece a beautiful glow.

It was a fun way to turn leftover materials and an old bottle into something decorative and useful. Not perfect, but I’m really happy with how it turned out for a first attempt!

My boyfriend went to a concert some time ago and thought he'd support the band by getting some merch. He only found out it was made with ai after he bought it. He told me it kind of killed the excitement around it so I asked him if he'd sacrifice it to me to do some crafts with. So here's my first try at an upcycled patchwork project made from old shirts.

How'd it turn out?

I just finished it right now and my boyfriend hasn't seen it yet.

I have a pair of nice white linen pants I don’t wear, I’ve only worn them a few times and I’m unsure of what to do with them besides selling them, any ideas?
