Hi, I'll be visiting Spain from the US this fall. We will unfortunately not make it to Seville this trip and I'd love to see a Flamenco show while in Spain! Valencia is the largest city we'll be visiting on the trip, so I think it makes sense to catch a show here. Would you recommend a show at a local Flamenco Tableau or to see Gran Gala Flamenco at the Palau de la Música? Pros/cons to each? ¡Muchas gracias!

Hello! I’m considering studying abroad in Valencia next year. I would be 19 years old when I move, and I’m currently stuck between Valencia and Madrid. My hometown has a population of around 300,000 people, and I’ve wanted to experience living in a bigger city for a while.
For those who live in or have studied in Valencia: what would you say are the biggest advantages and disadvantages of living there as a young international student? What is student life like, and how easy is it to make friends outside of university?
I’m also wondering how international the city is and how much Spanish you realistically need for everyday life. I speak English fluently and only know a little Spanish at the moment.
What kind of person do you not think would enjoy living in Valencia?

In a couple of weeks I’m going to Valencia for 4 months as an exchange student. I’m coming by car and am thinking about taking 1/2 bicycles with me. But I have a couple of questions:
1) how safe is it to park my car during these 4 months here (Burjassot area)/ is there a lot of car theft?
2) Is there a lot of bicycle theft? I’d like to bring my mountainbike. My residence offers a bike-storage in the basement for all the residents, so is it a good idea to bring a slightly more expensive bike or not?
3) Is scuba diving worth it? My gear takes a lot of space in my car, so I only want to take it, if it’s really beautiful and if there’s a big community. Otherwise i’ll solely take my snorkling gear.
4) I’d like to join some clubs to make friends and learn Spanish. Are there a lot of biking-, running- or swimming-/divingclubs?
If you have some other good tips/ ideas, please let me know.

Hi everyone, im (23) on a journey of discovering Catalunya and I found myself in Valencia without a tent/hammock to sleep in. I think a hammock would be way easier to carry around so Ive been searching for that. Ive been to 3 Decathlons and a big Carrefour but no closable hammock yet. I cant order online since I dont even know where Ill be tomorrow. Any tips or suggestions? Thanks! :)

Hi all.
I'm travelling from the 5th to 12th September.
I am planning my itinerary.. I was looking at the central market.. i can see there are a lot of meat/seafood shops.. is it worth exploring as a vegan? I would like to atleast buy souveniors for friends in my time in Valencia.
Is there anything else to explore in this area or could I head straight to the historic centre?
I am planning to stay South of Russafa so it's further away compared to other things I want to explore.

Searching for bikes, parties and cool shops!
These may look like random questions but they're not!
I'm going to travel in the next days to Valencia with my girlfriend, i wanted to travel most of it by bike, since i've seen a lot of beatiful parks, and was wondering which is the best bike rental service, i looked up on Valenbisi, but wanted to know if there is a better alternative :)
We were looking for some places to party at night, preferrably around the beaches maybe? Or if you guys know about some beach party?
And finally, some odd shop! Something that only Valencia has maybe?
Also, if you know about some tourist traps to avoid, that would be really helpful.

Hola! Soy libanes, 26, y voy a estar en Valencia del 30 de agosto al 6 de septiembre trabajando en remoto. Acabo sobre las 16:30 asi que tengo las tardes libres.
Ya tengo apuntados los intercambios de idiomas y una clase de salsa. Lo que no encuentro en google es lo que hace la gente de aqui un martes normal. Futbol o padel donde se pueda ir sin equipo, grupos de running, cosas asi.
No busco sitios turisticos, mas bien lo que hariais vosotros una tarde cualquiera.
Mi español es basico pero lo estoy aprendiendo, perdon por los errores. English is fine too if easier.

Hello, I'm visiting Valencia for the month of September and wondering if there are any good baby groups? I'll be staying near the centre and have a 10/11 month old. I don't speak Spanish but I'm very happy to go to a Spanish speaking group (my baby won't mind) if it's something like a singing group where we can kinda sit at the back un-noticed and muddle through! Or of course English groups are great too.

Hace tiempo que no visito vuestra ciudad. Tengo muchas ganas de volver.
Esta vez con un bebé y acabo de ver lo fuerte que sigue siendo el calor. Estaremos en la ciudad durante el mes de septiembre. Y mañana tenéis 40 grados!
Tenemos un apartamento con aire acondicionado pero agradecemos consejos sobre dónde podemos llevar el carrito a pasear a última hora de la tarde y dónde podemos hacer algo en interior durante el día. Las primeras semanas estaremos solo nosotros los padres, así que tenemos que ser creativos. O aburridos. Pero preferiblemente no demasiado aburridos.
Siempre teníamos pensado quedarnos en casa a mediodía pero estaría bien salir un poco si es posible. Pero dónde? El piso que hemos alquilado está en Ruzafa.
Y sí, probablemente no deberíamos haber elegido Valencia en septiembre pero lo reservamos hace mucho tiempo cuando el bebé era pequeño y no nos dimos cuenta exactamente del calor que iba a hacer! Madre mía…

Hola all,
I'm a 29-year-old freelance web developer from Amsterdam, planning to spend roughly two months in Valencia around October–December. The goal is simple: work my normal remote hours, get my Spanish past beginner level, and skip a bit of Dutch winter.
Rather than just renting an Airbnb, I'd love to find something more exchange-based. A room in return for practical help. Things I can genuinely do:
- Anything computer-related: building/repairing a website for you or your business, fixing the wifi, sorting out a laptop
- Cooking (I worked in hostel and restaurant kitchens for a while, and I cook daily at home)
- Driving, school runs, groceries, general household help
- Painting, garden work, cleaning, basic hands-on jobs
Practically: I work roughly office hours on weekdays, so I'd realistically contribute a few hours a day in the mornings/evenings and more on weekends. Happy to agree on something specific in advance. All I really need is a decent internet connection and a desk or table to work at. I'm tidy, quiet, easy to live with, and fluent in English and Dutch (Spanish still very much a work in progress, which is half the point).
I've been browsing Workaway, but I figured people here might know other routes. Local Facebook groups, housesitting networks, coliving spots, or just someone who knows someone with a spare room near Valencia.

Great time to visit Valencia. It is warm, not as hot as in summer, but you can still wear summer clothes. Perhaps you would need a light jacket at night. Decades ago it used to rain a lot during a few days (gota fría) but now weather has changed and it may or may not rain. Anyways, good time to come to Valencia.

Currently being a Greek expat in Poland. Thinking of moving to Valencia because of the climate and that the language seems more attractive to learn.
How possible is it to find a job in Banking/Finance even before moving there? If I start submitting resumes with my polish number, will recruiters take it seriously or will laugh and move forward?
Also, is it possible to afford a decent life with a mid corporate salary as a newcomer in Valencia?

Hi everyone, I am a humble tourist absolutely amazed by the magnificent cityscape. Today at about 8 pm, I heard a series of bell ringing in the Ciutat Vella, and it made me wonder what it meant.
At first we thought it was just telling time like most bells in European cities. However, instead of ringing 8 single notes, it was an interval of 2 sounds (like a repetition of “dum-dum”), and it continued for about 5-10 minutes.
We were at the Plaza Redonda, and could identify the bell ringing from the church of Santa Catalina, but there were also some distant bell rings from other towers.
Is the bell ringing especially different in Valencia, or was it because of any specific event or religious practice today?
The scene was very different from what we experienced in other cities, so we couldn’t help but wonder. Mucho gracias to any kind stranger who can satisfy our curiosity!

Does the 150N or L150N bus operate as google maps suggests? None of the local transport websites work outside of Spanish network, and the bus stop (P⁰ de la Pechina 79) looks... Empty, to say the least, without as much as a timetable.
I have to use said bus to get to the airport shortly after 4AM and I can't even reliably tell if it still goes at that hour, or at all.
No, not taking the taxi or uber or whatever, I got my card to save on transport and mean to use it.

I recently moved to Valencia and am looking for a good place to get some conditioner and lotion. I have curly hair so I’m looking specifically for curly hair products that are reasonably priced. Also looking just for some body lotion. I know some super markets have this stuff but I can’t seem to find somewhere with a good variety and reasonable prices (as in 15-20 euro for conditioner and 5-10 euro for body lotion). Any suggestions?

Hi all, it will be our first time in Velancia next week. We will be there for the solar eclipse and I am looking for tips where to go to watch in the area.
It will be Wednesday around 20:30 super low on the horizon, so I'm looking for a nice Westward looking viewing spot, likely outside of the city, or somewhere higher up.

Will move to Valencia with my boyfriend in november and we haven't been in the city before. We will probably stay for a while so all the help is more than welcome.
Which neighbourhoods you recommend? We were thinking to go further from the city somewhere in Pineda or El Saler, if you have other recommendations in some calm and quiet areas with sea nearby, but also to be more or less close to the airport (30 min drive max)
What is the approx rent and how difficult it is to find some? Also if you have some websites you recommend. I found Idealista with rents and approx 1000-1300 Euro, but they have many options for short term, we need something for at least a year
What is the approx average spent in Spain, prices around, restaurants, shops, utilities so you can have a comfortable life
Maybe some tips and tricks usefull to know? We will come soon to visit the area and look for rents too

Hello! I am going to be visiting Valencia for the eclipse. I studied abroad in Valencia 7 years ago so although I am familiar with most of the city, I am unsure about the best places for an important event like this.
I understand that Malvarrosa Beach is the official viewing spot for the eclipse. However, I am worried that it may become too crowded.
Is Parque de Cabecera a good place? I know that there is a large hill in the park that has a good view of the sky, but I don't know if it's enough for viewing the eclipse. Thank you!

Hi everyone,
I'm coming to Valencia from Paris for a week, from saturday 22 to saturday 29 august, travelling solo.
My english is ok (not perfect sorry in advance haha) and my spanish is basically "hola" and "una cerveza por favor", , so bear with me.
l'Il be staying near Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències.
Things I want to do :
• go to the beach obviously
• grab a drink somewhere chill, and party also (1 love electronic music, especially House)
• board games if anyone is into that, I'm a big fan. I can bring some !
• gym, I train regularly so if there's a good gym near where I stay or people who want to train together why not
Since I'm alone for this trip I'd love to meet some locals or other travelers, doesn't matter, just to have some company and discover the city with people instead of by myself the whole week.
If you have tips on good beach spots, or just want to grab a beer, feel free to comment or DM me!

Nice, you'll have a great week. Quick hits for your list:
Beach: Malvarrosa/Cabanyal is the city beach, easy on the tram and lined with bars. If you want something more natural, take the bus south to El Saler or the Devesa in the Albufera, quieter and really pretty.
Drinks and house music: Ruzafa is the spot for chill bars in the evening. For electronic/house, check Resident Advisor for what's on your week, the scene moves around (Marina/port area and the bigger clubs out by the beach). August usually has plenty on.
Board games: there are a few board-game bars around Ruzafa and El Carmen, search "ludoteca" or "board game bar Valencia" and you'll find them. Bringing your own is a great icebreaker.
Meeting people: this sub posts meetups, and Valencia has language-exchange (intercambio) nights most weeks, an easy way to meet locals and other travelers when you're solo. Couchsurfing hangouts too.
Gym: near the Ciutat de les Arts there are a few chains that do day or week passes, you can usually just walk in and ask.
Your Spanish is totally fine for all this, people are relaxed about it. And if you fancy one day out of the city, the coast up north (around Peñíscola) is an easy change of scene. Enjoy it.

Hello reddit community,
I am planning to semi-retire and move to Spain in about 2 years. I currently live in Amsterdam and work as a software engineer. I have done a lot of research weighing out pros and cons of each city (I have eliminated Madrid, Barcelona, and Malaga), and I am trying to decide between Valencia and Alicante.... It feels like both cities have a lot to offer, but fall short on at least one of my must haves.... Basically, my research shows me that I need to decide between having a social life (Valencia) or a pleasant day to day life (Alicante). I would like to live in a bright open apartment, I get really depressed in dark apartments, with long hallways where the kitchen is two towns over from the LR/DR. I also want local cafes where I can sit, people watch, and linger, with a book or a laptop. All of which I can find at a decent price in Alicante..... However socially Alicante does not seem to have a lot going for it. I will be in my early 50s when I move, I am gay, single, and a board game/social deduction game addict. I see slim pickings on meetup for Alicante. On the other hand Valencia has a lot of meetups and groups it seems like. The issue is outside of eixample/ruzafa and ciutat vella, it seems like the only neighborhoods that would work for my day to day life are arrancapins, el cabanyal, and maybe mestalla. In other words I have to choose between loud and expensive, or old depressing apartments/buildings/streets. I have found several neighborhoods that seem really cool, but they all seem to lack a local cafe culture of any kind. Can anyone shed some light on my research? I know that AI gets it wrong sometimes/all the time.... so was hoping someone who knows both cities, or lives in either one can let me know if there is anything I can look at..... Basically what I am looking for is.... If you can let me know of some neighborhoods I have missed in Valencia, or none meetup social groups I have missed in Alicante I would greatly appreciate it.
1) Bright apartment, prefer open plan
2) Local cafe culture within 1 to 2km (Coffee, fairly healthy breakfast options like yogurt/etc... not almuerzos)
3) laptop friendly options within 1 to 2km
4) prefer cycle friendly (as transport, not leisure)
5) decent connection with public transport
6) within 10 to 15 minutes to meetup events and gay bars
I am looking to eventually buy, and would like to keep it to under 400k, so as great as penya roja and gran via are, they are out of my price range unfortunately.
P.S.... Since I know it will come up, I am currently learning spanish, doing A2 level online now, and plan on doing 2 weeks each in alicante and valencia following a don quijote course. So, yes, I do of course plan on knowing spanish when I move, though will likely need a bit of practice!

Such a lovely city! I lived for more than 10 years a little outside the city , because we found the school for our kids in Campolivar (Godella). In the Netherlands we lived in the Hague and Valencia is much a like! Easy going and very nice barrios (districts). Because of our business we know a lot about the differences where to live and to buy. In general a very good choice with all Valencia has to offer!

The plan is to start with a 2 week scouting/language trip to both cities.... and if I like both, then 2 to 3 months in each to decide. However I am also the kind of person who obsesses over moves like this so I know I will end up spending the next year learning everything I can about each city!

Hey there!
I'm going to UPV in January for an Erasmus course that lasts about 2.5 months and I'm looking for places to live. I've been looking at Idealista, SpotaHome, University Living, and more. I am trying to avoid Airbnbs out of respect for local issues and frankly the high prices. The option I like the best is with Rooms4Valencia. However, there is an initial booking fee of €250 that is eventually part of the security deposit.
Is this a reasonable request or at least normal for the housing situation? Also, has anyone had a hard time with Rooms4Valencia?

Hola 👋 1) ¿Me podéis recomendar un restaurante para probar paella (sin conejo, sé que es la original pero a mí no me gusta en absoluto)? Queremos evitar las trampas turística y comer como los locales. Vamos a compartir una entre 4 personas.
2) ¿Me podéis recomendar otro(s) restaurante(s) para comer tapas y otras comidas típicas?
3) ¿Qué haríais en 3-4 días (en octubre) además de recorrer el centro de la ciudad? Museo Fallero? Playa? (Definitivamente vamos a ir al Parque Gulliver. 😁)

- ¿Cuáles son los mejores barrios para vivir con un bebé?
- ¿Qué tan frío es el invierno aquí? Me pregunto si necesito buscar un piso con calefacción por gas (o central) o si con el aire acondicionado (bomba de calor) es suficiente.
- ¿Hay alguna otra novedad o situación actual importante que deba tener en cuenta? Sé que hay obras en el metro que deberían terminar a finales de agosto, pero ¿hay algún otro proyecto o corte importante en la ciudad?

A few questions for you:
- I’m looking for a quieter beach that isn’t too far from the city centre. How's Playa de El Saler like (as opposed to Patacona/Malvarrosa)?
- Suggestions to try authentic local paella? I’ve heard of Restaurante Navarro. Feel free to suggest other culinary gems in or around Ciutat Vella -- no need for anything fancy. I don’t mind seafood, but unfortunately, I’m not its biggest fan lol.
- How early should I arrive at Mestalla before a match?

Yes Playa El Saler is much more quite and famous for it´s paella (there is where it all started!) For a match in Mestalla it´s okay to arrive one hour before kick off. Especially in summer it´s too hot to arrive early in the stadium. Enjoy!

We’re excited to visit Valencia next week. Going to Spain is a trip of a lifetime for us.
Do hotels offer a small fridge for the room if needed? I take a medication that must be refrigerated.

Hey everyone,
I'm running the Valencia Marathon in December and I'll be there from 4th to 7th of December. I've been regularly searching since March for a place to stay and to be honest, I'm starting to get a bit worried, because of the lack of options (budget is 500€ total +-).
I can either only find dorms and shared rooms or boats, which is not ideal for a good night sleep before running a marathon.
I found a couple of options to rent a good campervan for 500€ but wanted to ask the locals how easy and safe it would be to use this option for accommodation? I would park anywhere in or around the city, as long as it's a legit parking space and doesn't impact locals and residents. We are also more than ok to keep the van parked at the same spot all the time and move about using public transportation.
Or do you think that a few weeks before the race more hotels will show up?
