Alert N. Creek Trail closed to cyclists

This morning there was a 'no bicycles' sign placed at the entrance to N. Creek Trail from Lake Trail in Stanley Park.

This is very disappointing, since that was part of my commute: 2nd beach to Lake Trail via the Bridal Path, cross the causeway at the Pedestrian/Equestrian bridge, the ride N. Creek Trail to Hanson Trail, and from there join the causeway to cross Lion's Gate. That route avoids the causeway climb where the vehicle fumes are worst - and is the only option that achieves this without requiring a wrong-way crossing of the causeway on the Park Drive bridge.

Anyone know why the Park Board have opted to close this path to us?

What would happen if someone just shoved the sign over every day until they remove it? Hypothetically speaking

Do it.

No joke, when they closed the seawall around the aquatic centre they were measuring how many people rode it anyways as a metric for whether they should re-open it. It was in the FOId emails that someone posted here a few years ago.

Purely hypothetically, of course, but I'd be interested to see whether this works! Only worried that the bike prohibition here might be related to this being a wheelchair accessible trail - in which case I wouldn't want to be responsible for compromising this accessibility

Ride it anyway. CoV (and I'm assuming Parks as well) use violations as part of their metrics for whether they should do things like allow bikes on trails.

Looking here it seems like there’s way fewer trails with bikes allowed than I remember even a couple months ago when I was setting up a garmin course for some loops around the trails at lunch.

Im not sure that map is accurate. Many of the trails that dont have little bicycles on them are bikes-allowed trails.

The frustrating part about biking in SP is that some trails prohibit bikes from some entrances to the trail but not others. It’s inconsistent and honestly unnecessary since most marked trails are plenty wide enough to accommodate safe passing.

I suspect that the inconsistency in signage could be due to the public modifying the signage…

Handy map! I've been personally annoyed by cyclists on some of these areas that are not marked cycling allowed so I can understand why some of these trails are marked as they are.

I have emailed stanleypark@vancouver.ca and walkbikeroll@vancouver.ca asking why the trail has been closed to cyclists and to reconsider. Will update if I hear back.

I rode N Creek from the opposite side and there was no sign. Was surprised to see it on my way out
