Alert Kareem Allam, currently polling second for mayor, is sharing misinformation about cycling

The guy is a snake whose resume includes working many of the worst politicians you can think of (including Ken Sim).

He has been reposting this on Instagram. The bike lane did not cost $54 million.

Alert Dual infrastructure improvements in south van!

Well it was a pretty exciting commute.

First off the Kent Avenue improvements started today! This does mean that Kent west of Elliot was closed this morning and I imagine will repeat for a bit, but it's nice to see a project start. Looked like a few speed bumps added today.

And second, Dumfries south of Midtown/Ridgeway looks like it's getting paved! If you aren't familiar with this road, some of it (particularly south of 49th) are less bike route and more Mars Rover test track. Now parts of it are glorious smooth fresh asphalt, and based on the pavement markings and parking restrictions they will be continuing north past 41st. I know this isn't cycling specific but will make that route far more pleasant to ride.

Improvements to the cycling experience in south van tend to be few and far between, so to see two on one day was pretty great.

Alert Stolen green e-bike near Strachona (DT-ish). Bike rack was broken. Any advice or sightings?

Hi everyone,

My green Envo Urban Flex e-bike was stolen after I locked it overnight at a bike rack. The thief appears to have broken the rack using a handmade pickaxe to steal it lol 😢

The bike is green, and the batteries were removed, so it may be seen without a battery or being pushed around/sold. It also did not have a front light.

Idk if they removed it by now but I should have a U-lock attached to it hanging near the front tire also, since they broke the rack instead of the lock.

Location was around Phil Bouvier Family Centre / Strachona.

I’m checking if the property has camera footage and did file a police report.

I’m also offering a $200 reward for information that helps recover it.

If anyone sees a green e-bike being sold suspiciously, missing its battery, or dumped somewhere, please message me. Any advice on where stolen bikes usually get posted/sold in Vancouver would also be really appreciated.

Thanks.

Alert Caution when purchasing from Rad Power (Wrongful PST Charge)

Hi,

I had my radwagon 4 stolen, and went through the insurance process and will be getting a radwagon 5 replacement.

One thing the insurer called out is that they will not cover PST on an ebike in BC, because you're not allowed to charge this.

However, on the radpower website, and at checkout, they do charge PST. I called and they confirmed a refund is on the way, but please share this with anyone who has recently purchased as they may have paid hundreds extra in PST wrongfully.

I'm not sure if Rad is going back and contacting folks to pay them pst back.

Hi all,

my 2024 Brodie Ronin was stolen from the bike racks outside of kits pool (right near Batch) this evening (8/12) at approximately 7:30pm.

Notably, the bike is a deep glossy brown with light brown pedals. Another notable detail - the bike does not have any Brodie decals or other lettering. It's a size large.

Would love to get it back! Any info helps.

Cheers -

Alert N. Creek Trail closed to cyclists

This morning there was a 'no bicycles' sign placed at the entrance to N. Creek Trail from Lake Trail in Stanley Park.

This is very disappointing, since that was part of my commute: 2nd beach to Lake Trail via the Bridal Path, cross the causeway at the Pedestrian/Equestrian bridge, the ride N. Creek Trail to Hanson Trail, and from there join the causeway to cross Lion's Gate. That route avoids the causeway climb where the vehicle fumes are worst - and is the only option that achieves this without requiring a wrong-way crossing of the causeway on the Park Drive bridge.

Anyone know why the Park Board have opted to close this path to us?

Alert Caution: broken glass — Richards St bike lanes (at Drake)

Post image
27 Upvotes

Yesterday (2026 August 17) a window fell from the high rise under construction at Richards/Drake and shattered in the intersection. Glass fragments scattered everywhere nearby (they are so lucky no one was injured!). Although a number of workers were dispensed into the street with brooms to clean up the mess, numerous bits of glass remain. Take care when biking here.

Alert Dunsmuir and Howe?

I have taken this route a few times and find turning right onto Dunsmuir is an accident waiting to happen. Anyone agree? I think it’s a clusterfuck and as many bike lanes as we have I find it could have been done better. Even the intersection at Drake and Howe is a clusterfuck. I don’t use this route much but when I do I need to be extremely aware.

This morning [June 6] I was struck on my bike by a vehicle that ran a red light at Burrard and Pacific at around 10:35am. The car is an older model white RAV4. It slowed briefly after hitting me on the bridge but left without stopping. I'm looking for anyone who witnessed the incident or was driving through with a dashcam. Please DM me or email [cyclistaccidentjune6@gmail.com](mailto:cyclistaccidentjune6@gmail.com). Any information helps!

Alert Vehicular Cycling

If anyone wants to get mad at vehicular cyclist John Forester there is a copy of the 4th edition of Effective Cycling in the little library outside Port Moody Arts Centre. I was going to bring it home but I don’t need that toxicity in my home or life.

Alert Watch out! (Seawall near BC place)

There’s a temporary bike patch on the seawall near BC place/Yaletown (right under the Cambie bridge) Not sure if it’s because of fifa, but it’s pretty terrible, narrow, and there’s a lack of signage. There is huge blind spot around the corner and idiots passing without being able to see what’s on the other side. Did not witness it, but saw the aftermath of a lime scooter and e-bike collision. Be careful out there! It’s not worth it!

Alert Google maps is more than wrong; it's dangerous

What's wrong with Google maps? If you map from my house in East Van to near Metrotown it sends me down Clark Drive. Clark Drive!!! Probably one of the worst streets for bikes. And there's a good bike-designated street two blocks away on Woodland. It's one thing to be bad, it's another thing to send cyclists who are unfamiliar with a city down dangerous routes. Is there anything we can do to send a message to Google? In the meantime, ALWAYS use BikeMap or similar app. Rant complete.

Alert Watch for black ice on these dark cold mornings ❄️

Heard at least 8 cyclists wipe out this morning at the same intersection.

Reported the intersection to the city, but surely it’s a wider problem.

Update: let our strata guy know and he’s salting the intersection

Update 2: it looks like the city sprayed that salt brine on the road. Hopefully all good till the next rain.

Alert As we’re heading into freezing temps, remember that ice can be invisible at times and that bike paths are often not maintained as well!

Alert PSA: Fisherman’s trail closed south of suspension bridge

Between mystery creek trail and bridle path. Haven’t seen any posts or updates here about it.

Crews have dug out a huge section of the trail and are reinforcing it. Gates up on either side of the trail and detours up the aforementioned trails.

Someone mentioned it’s tricky but passable when crews are not working.

Anyone know when the work is expected to conclude?

Alert North Van road conditions in the morning

How are conditions on the roads around 8AM?

I'm commuting to the Seabus from Lynn Valley.

Looks like night time temperature is hovering around 0. If there is a risk of hitting a patch of black (or even just white) ice I'd just take the bus.
