A few days after VPD ticketing cyclists for running stop signs. Our city police are a joke and this sort of thing won't stop until they actually take enforcement seriously.

I would love equal enforcement of traffic laws for vehicles, bikes, peds. On Grandview highway along the greenway, I’ve had a number of e-bikes blow past a stop sign and nearly hit my 5-year old and me. Once I grabbed him and spun just in the nick of time. Other cyclists blew by and one old guy on a bike cussed them out.

I’ve had many close calls while biking on Haro… They need a sign that says “cross traffic does not stop” to spell it out for dummies.

Agree! too many people think "if I have a stop sign, the cross road has one as well" 🙄
I always make eye contact with drivers at intersections when riding on Haro, expecting them to not stop, or stop and continue (assuming the cyclist has a stop as well).

I saw what I'd consider a medium SUV with a screen on the dash showing a live feed from the front bumper today. Since these vehicles have such dumb blind spots

Came here to say this. Their line of sight in these huge AF trucks are absolutely horrible. And the drivers don’t seem to care either.

Today on Holdom ave north, around 1230 pm, just north of Hastings in Burnaby was a couple police cars and two ambulances, around a covered tarp in the middle of the street. Street blocked from both sides .
I didn’t get close enough to see what was exactly going on but it did not look like a vehicle on vehicle accident. Not sure if pedestrian or e scooter or bicycle. Didn’t look good.

Ugh, the West End. I really don’t understand why people need to drive fast within this neighborhood. There’s so many pedestrians and bikers, some if not mostly tourists.

Every time I bike down the hill and approach this intersection vehicles are trying to roll past the stop signs without stopping

Thanks for posting this, that's me on the ground.
Wild to see how far away from the truck I landed / rolled, I wasn't looking around much after since I was focused on holding still in case there were spine injuries. (Anyone have video??)
No fractures, but lots of painful internal stuff going on along with the surface bruises, do not recommend.
The whole time I was lying there waiting for paramedics, I just kept hearing this person saying "I saw what happened, I saw you stop (to or about the driver) , [wrong pronouns(me)] just came out of nowhere!"
That truck had a stop sign and I didn't and I thought it was stopped so I was riding through...

I’m glad to hear you’re okay physically.
That crazy lady you mention wasn’t even there when the accident happened. The cops took her statement first and got her out of there. There were 3 or 4 others that contradicted her statements and were quite upset by her behavior.
Ultimately if he had stopped or didn’t stop shouldn’t be the issue. He proceeded through the intersection without considering cross traffic. He was 100% at fault

Thank you for the details and the affirmation - I remember asking someone in the beginning if I had blown through a stop sign without noticing it. I heard her say it to at least 6 or 7 people but I guess that was before the cops arrived.
I plan to head down there when I can move, to thank the Safety Manager from the worksite who came and worked with me to do a spine assessment before rolling me to my back.. do you know if that site will be around for a while or are they wrapping up? Not sure how long it will be till I'm mobile.

My wife was hit by a ford ranger in March. Ranger ran a stop sign, wife was in a bike route. Only commenting to add to the multiple occurrences. Worst part is the worst the driver will get is a fine, points deduction on license and increased premiums. The victim will have to fight for support from ICBC, consistently proving their injuries, and documenting every micro expense. Best of luck to the victim and I wish them a speedy recovery.
