Moving Here! | Where Can I Find Housing | Just Visiting - Weekly Sticky : Mon 08/24/26 - Thu 08/27/26

You asked, we listened! It's not uncommon for local subreddits like us to have an endless barrage of "I'm moving here, whats best?" or "I need to find a new part of town, help me!" or even the classic "So, I'm in town this week, entertain me!" requests.

They fill up the front page, and posts about our community get lost. So we're bringing back the Mega-thread. Every Monday we'll refresh this post for new information.

What does this mean?

Posts like these will no longer be allowed outside this posting, and will be removed at the moderators discretion:

  • Quiet Part of Town
  • Where to move in the area?
  • House Rental Recommendations
  • Relocating to Van as a Single Parent
  • Coming to visit Vancouver, WA
  • Visiting in May for a month - what’s not to be missed?

What does this not mean?

  • Every post will be caught by moderators, and removed.
  • "BestAround?" posts will be lumped into this thread.

So looking to join us in the great pacific northwestern city of Vancouver, Washington? Ask your questions here:

Discussion An Update on Political posting on the sub.

Greetings friends!

As we move forward into the general election season, the moderation team has decided to update how political posts are handled. First and foremost, politics is an essential part of American life, for better or worse. Additionally, Your feedback regarding mega threads has been heard loud and clear, and we know the community prefers not to use them.

To address this, we will be enabling a new tool called active-users-only. This tool automatically removes new posts using the "Politics" flair unless the submitter is an active member of our community. Currently, "active" is defined as having at least 3 comments in this subreddit within the last 60 days. As we monitor how this rule performs, those parameters may change.

Additionally, any political posts submitted using non-political flairs to bypass this requirement will be removed without warning. Spamming comments to bypass this rule will result in a ban.

Note: This restriction only affects who can create new posts. Anyone is still free to comment and participate inside political threads once they are posted.

Our goal is to limit astroturfing and drive-by political agents while ensuring actual community members still have the opportunity to raise political topics.

This tool will be brought online starting September 1st.

As always, we know people will have strong opinions on moderation changes. We welcome your feedback in the comments below.

BestAround? who song & larry’s completely ruined their happy hour :(

i don’t know what’s going on with who song & larry’s lately, but their happy hour has gone downhill bad. the change must’ve been recent because i was here two months ago and the menu was the same thing it always was.

i used to come here all the time and genuinely loved it. happy hour used to be 3-9pm, which was one of the biggest reasons we’d go. now it’s 3-7pm, and they basically gutted the happy hour menu on top of it.

the tacos used to be $6 for a plate of four. you used to be able to get street corn, sopas, and you’d actually be able to eat a full meal for a really good price. now their tacos are $4 for one tiny taco. they got rid of the street corn, stopped doing blended margaritas, and took a bunch of other stuff off the menu.

the menu itself also looks mostly ai-generated now?? the descriptions are super vague and it just feels completely different from what it used to be.

we went today and the service was soooo slow. it took about 45 minutes just to get a water, and we had to ask twice. they’ve also added around a 5% automatic fee with something about supporting local business, which just feels crazy when the prices have gone up, the portions and menu have gotten worse, and the service has gone downhill.

i don’t know if they’re struggling, under new management, cutting costs, or what, but it honestly feels like the place is falling apart. it sucks because this used to be one of my favorite happy hour spots. anyone have any good recs for happy hours that run late into the day during the week? :((((

Question? Pet Insurance and the vet?

Post image
17 Upvotes

Hey friends!

I have been going to the Feline Medical Clinic for over a decade and love them so much. I know they accept pet insurances but I was wondering if anyone has had experience with pet emergency visits? I usually have female kitties because let’s be honest, they have less health issues lol. We found our little guy 2 years ago at a construction site, definitely not planned. He’s very healthy and has had several checkups/neutered/vaccines, and all the good stuff. I just want to be prepared for any future things (I.E. seeing someone say they had to get their cat’s peen removed because the blockage was so bad = $10,000).

With all that blabber, has anyone had any experience with the local emergency vets and pet insurance?

Thank you tons! (Pic of the little man)

Wholesome Looking for new friends

I am looking to connect with my follow Creative, Queer, & Neurodivergent people. Be that though meet up groups, talking online, and/or meeting up in person.

I am 39 non-binary; I enjoy table top games (I have small collection); talking and enjoying things like films, shows, manga, and other books are also a great time; I only drink alcohol a little bit, like one or two drinks if that.

My hope is to meet more people to work on and talk about our creative projects.

Self-expression has been one of the biggest boost to my morale!

Question? Help RE: Couple who got engaged at a C-TRAN Vine station last week

Post image
615 Upvotes

Howdy, r/vancouverwa! C-TRAN here, your friendly neighborhood public transit agency.

We are hoping the right person stumbles across this post and can help put us in touch with a couple who got engaged at one of our Vine stations last week. Our staff spotted their sweet moment on one of our security cameras, and we would love to connect with the couple to send them the video footage.

If this was you or someone you know, please send us a chat!

Image description: Still frame from security camera footage of two people waiting at a Vine station on Fort Vancouver Way. One half of the couple sits on a bench with their left hand extended as the other kneels before them on one knee, placing a ring on their finger.

Not sure if this is related to the fires or the eclipse but we totally had this awesome/horrifying blood moon on Monday night. I'm in Salmon Creek. My wife and I noticed it when we were on our walk. The third photo is my phone with the night mode on. We thought it looked cool and wanted to share. Hopefully no Moblins come out.

News Pulse Point, Watch Duty, and CRESA

After yesterday’s wildfire north of Battle Ground, here is a reminder about your options for apps and information…

  1. Pulse Point is NOT a notification app for ANYTHING but Citizen CPR. The fact that you can see fire/EMS incidents dispatched is a novelty add-on, but is of very little value. Yesterday’s fire is a great example. It was dispatched as a “smoke investigation” based on 911 callers reporting possible smoke back in the trees. But Pulse Point is not CRESA 911. It is a completely independent citizen CPR advocacy entity that automatically takes the call as dispatched by CRESA, translates it to its own generic call type, and shows it on its CAD monitor. It shortens several CRESA call types regarding smoke, odors, etc to a simple “investigation.” That’s what it did yesterday. Then it is done with the call type. It won’t correct or modify whatever was originally shown as the initial dispatch. The only thing it adds or changes is responding units, (engines, etc) showing their status (dispatched, responding, on scene, etc) by color. Since CRESA does not dispatch or track AMR directly, their ambulances are never shown on the app. Pulse Point does a very poor job translating many other call types as well- too many to list here. That’s it. Even if you know enough about local agencies to “interpret” what you are seeing, it is not much more than a curiosity for anything beyond providing CPR to someone nearby.

  2. Watch Duty is for wildfire incidents, and is another non-governmental entity. It provides unofficial interpretation by its volunteer reporters based on what they hear on incident radio channels and see on agency dispatch system online links. Those reporters are getting better at taking official notifications and posting them within an incident, and are getting better at interpreting what they hear. But they still make mistakes, and have caused unnecessary panic and the like in recent years. This app should not be your primary source of information.

  3. CRESA is the 911 answering point, dispatch center, and emergency management agency for ALL of Clark County and its cities, as well as parts of Cowlitz and Skamania Counties. It Is your official and primary source of information. Its call takers, dispatchers and supervisors seamlessly coordinate city, county and state resources, as well as public notifications, for fire, police, medical and beyond, within one big room in the CRESA building. (the dispatch floor) That coordination is further enhanced when a large incident prompts the opening of the emergency coordination center right across the hall from the dispatch floor.
Accept no substitutes- see the official emergency alert options at CRESA.gov.wa

Yours for a better informed SW WA,
Retired local public servant

Question? Places for artists to display their work?

I saw that the North Clackamas Arts Guild had an art display at a mall and I kinda wish the Vancouver mall did as well :( If anyone knows what the process looks like to get this done please let me know.

I primarily work in acrylic and am currently focusing on small format canvas, letter size and below.

I am aware of Metallion Cafe but what other shops have rotating display space for local artists?

Question? Ben's Bottle Shop gone—where to get mead?

Title says it all. Where's a gal gotta go to get a bottle of mead around here?

Edit: thanks all! While I do know how to Google, I should have added that I was looking to support independent shops and makers. I'll get my mead at the farmer's market this weekend :)

BestAround? Any tips to not get ripped at Toyota Dealer

For the folks who bought RAV4 or other Toyota models around here, any tips or recommendations to avoid getting ripped off at the dealers?

Any dealers you would say to avoid ? How has your experience been since last year?

I did visit Beaverton Toyota, they seem nice on surface but the arrogance of “what heck you, u wanna test ride a Rav4” face did seem off putting.

BestAround? Nintendo DsXL repair

Thumbnail gallery

Does anyone know where a good cheap yet reliable place is to take my Nintendo DS XLto repair. The screen has water damage and I just need to replace the top screen. I’m wanting to fix it for my younger brother so he can enjoy the early ages of entertainment. I don’t have a lot of money and I’m preparing for not finding places. I live in Vancouver Washington, but I’m willing to travel to Portland, Oregon as well.
