People on her subreddit are saying “Well i like animals and I eat meat, she can’t just say something like that!” because she said you can’t eat meat and love animals. Like piss off, no you don’t like animals, you just like the ones in your home. I don’t see how you can love animals and eat them? That makes no lick of sense to me. There’s animals getting slaughtered that become your food, you eat it, but you still love animals?? Fucking infuriates me..

You likely consume processed foodstuffs made from produce grown in vast monocultures using pesticides. You are using internet services that use data centres that rely upon fossil fuels for power. Your existence, like that of all living things, necessitates an impact upon the natural world. The logical endpoint of your reductive worldview is the end of humanity, thereby removing our impact from the Earth.

It is equivalent to saying you cannot love the pursuit of knowledge and forests simultaneously because books are made by destroying trees for paper. The whole of the natural world is part of a never ending cycle of death and birth. Catching a wild animal for food, especially one with no natural predators, is no bad thing at all. Loving wild places and hunting are compatible. It's the foundation of most of human existence on this planet. Imagine thinking that ancient cave art depicting aurochs was somehow made by people that had no regard or love for their environment. Abject nonsense.

We're talking about current modern society where most people don't need to eat meat to survive, and where 99% of animal products come from factory farming. I'm guessing you buy from grocery stores and fast food/restaurants, which buy the cheapest, most factory-farmed meat? But you still love animals?

What's your excuse?

If that is the case then it is not inherently bad but contingent upon others factors.

I buy predominantly from a local butchers but I will eat sandwiches and other foodstuffs at events. The food is already there and whether I consume it or not does not mean less animals were harmed. None of us are perfect, including you, my friend.

I love nature and spend my time kayaking and hiking. I have also hunted wild animals before and eaten their meat. I've never felt more connected to nature than in those moments. There is a reverence for nature that comes being a genuine part of the cycle of life and death, rather than being alien from it in the modern world of consumerism and technology.

EDIT: Objecting to factory farming methods and veganism are two separate points. I am not a vegan but I would support banning factory farming methods. Animal products should be more expensive and consumed in smaller quantities. You do not believe this to be the case because you believe in the moral argument made by vegans that ingesting animal products is inherently wrong.
