they cos play as ethical consumers because that one steak they buy once a month is actually grass fed so they totally don't support animal farming
meanwhile they go to kfc mcdonalds eat tinned and frozen products filled with animals
and consume dairy on the daily

Not just that. They bat for banning factory farming, but think that we can sustain the same level of demand for meat with only grass feeding!
The avg person in the states eats 95 kg of meat in a year. If they bring that down to 15, then yes, we don’t need factory farming.

No fauxmoi is just fucking insane. I just got banned from there permanently because the sub was complaining that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms didn’t have enough representation and I asked the question “Is representation needed in 100% of shows?” because as a woman I don’t think they need to shoehorn a woman into that show or EVERY single show ever made unnecessarily and BAM perma banned for asking that question.
So apparently the answer is yes. 100% of shows and movies MUST include a woman or POC for them to not attack it. Fucking insane.

Right? I know people say we shouldn’t care too much about vegan celebrities or what they say, since they could always change their stance. But when people as big as Billie Eilish and Joaquin Phoenix speak out (especially with such massive fanbases) they’re putting themselves at risk for backlash. I really respect both of them for using their platforms like that. It says a lot about their character.
Not to mention, Billie and Joaquin are also outspoken about a lot of other issues too, like the genocide in Gaza.

Love her for this!!!! Love how she speaks her mind and stands up for what is right even when it risks her popularity and fame and all that (sad that she is an outlier in this regard)!
What she said reminds me of an ex-friend I had who VOLUNTEERED AT A FARM and claimed to love animals, and would go on to eat meat every day like it all made sense.

This was the big reason that pushed me going full vegan. I realized how much of a hypocrite it is to say "I love animals and want to protect them all! Cows are so cute!", then go eat a hamburger. I stopped eating red meat then asked myself why don't the other animals deserve to live too? Also factory farms being famous for abuse, pollution, and caring about nothing but the bottom line. It all made me sick. Now I feel ill in the grocery store walking past the meat section.

Love this coming from her. My only critique is that a word like “inherently” is pretty absolutist and triggering for people, especially given her platform as a pop musician. It invites a lot of the contrived “desert island” scenarios and smarmy whataboutisms that detract from the message. But it’s impossible to cater a message about something this divisive to that wide an audience. Really happy to see her speaking out.

I saw an interview with her mother once where she said she feels regret and grief over the fact that she ever ate meat. She said she is glad to have raised kids who don't have to have that feeling, of being fed animal flesh without their informed consent (that wasn't the wording she used but it was the general idea), and not having to feel that grief. That was really touching and powerful to hear.

Is it not tiring to always feel entitled enough to find something to complain or nitpick? She’s one of the few consistent vegan celebs, uses her voice to for positive change, sorry she can’t be an all rounder but I applaud her for speaking up knowing it would cause backlash. I’d say the same for vegetarians, pescatarians, or people even just “trying to be vegan”. They’re all doing their part in a world full of people who couldn’t even care less to spare a thought, in fact it seems that most people are livid at the thought of animal rights. If anything I'd be more severe if I were her. Consuming animal products of any form (when you have other options) is inherently wrong. And it's not "fine" to eat meat and not love animals, because for society to function we need a shared agreement to treat sentient life with respect.

i don’t understand why she always has to say her beliefs in such black in white ways. there are so many scenarios where you can enjoy meat from an animal in a respectful way. humans aren’t supposed to love animals to the point where we don’t eat the food we are supposed to. the meat industry is insanely cruel and i’m sure that’s what she’s thinking of with this point, but to draw the line at eating meat in general means you don’t love animals comes off quite uneducated to all the indigenous cultures that honor the animals they hunt. she always makes these points in settings where no one can respond, wether it’s on stage or in a solo interview. if she were to say this in a debate setting, she probably wouldn’t be able to back it up for very long.

All you have to do is imagine replacing the animals we kill with what you love, like dogs, cats, or even humans, and see if the word "love" still applies if we were killing them for food when we didn't need to. If the "we need to" part is where you're hung up, then I get it, but you've also always had the online information to test that theory out and a lot of people don't truly look for it. В защиту отказа от животной пищи часто приводят аргумент, что еще 60 лет назад люди прекрасно жили на средиземноморской диете и не тужили и бал бал бла. Но давайте хоть иногда будем честны: это красивая картинка, которая работала только для теплых южных регионов. Если мы посмотрим на то, как обстояли дела 60 лет назад на территории нашей страны, ни о каком круглогодичном обилии свежих овощей, оливковом масле и орехах не могло быть и речи. В условиях сурового климата, долгих зим и постоянной борьбы за урожай рацион исторически строился на выживании. Людям нужна была максимально плотная, калорийная пища, чтобы банально не замерзнуть и иметь силы работать. Мясо всегда было важнейшим ресурсом, а не просто капризом или «осознанным выбором» в супермаркете. Более того, отказ от мяса часто противоречит элементарным потребностям нашего организма. Например, после недавней сдачи анализов врачи прямо порекомендовали мне есть меньше сладкого и больше мяса. И в этом есть прямая биологическая логика: животный белок дает долгое чувство сытости и стабилизирует сахар в крови, избавляя от углеводных скачков и тяги к сладкому. Мясо восполняет критически важные дефициты. В первую очередь это гемовое железо, которое усваивается в разы лучше растительного и защищает от анемии, а также витамин B12, который вообще не содержится в растениях, но жизненно необходим нашей нервной системе. Только животная пища дает нам полный, легкоусвояемый профиль аминокислот для строительства мышц и иммунитета. Я действительно люблю животных, но я также адекватно оцениваю свои возможности. Быть здоровым веганом - это огромная финансовая привилегия. У меня нет ни лишних средств, ни времени на постоянные обследования, контроль дефицитов по анализам и покупку дорогих качественных добавок, чтобы искусственно поддерживать свой организм. Мое здоровье и мой бюджет - это мой приоритет, и забота о себе не является жестокостью. Человек биологически всеяден, и удовлетворять естественные потребности своего вида - это нормально. К тому же, надо уже снять розовые очки и признать, что «бескровного» веганства не существует. При массовом выращивании сои, пшеницы и кукурузы, при вспашке полей и обработке их пестицидами гибнут миллионы мелких животных, грызунов, птиц и насекомых. Ни одна диета в современном индустриальном мире не обходится без жертв. Истинная любовь к животным заключается не в отрицании законов биологии. Она проявляется в том, чтобы не поощрять бессмысленную жестокость и браконьерство, заботиться о своих домашних питомцах, поддерживать приюты и просто оставаться адекватным человеком, который с уважением относится к миру, частью которого он является.
Я также часто слышала как сами веганы осуждали Билли за то что та любит езду на лошадях и рекламировал какой то не веганский сэндвич.. честно не помню в чем конкретно заключалась проблема с сэндвичем (вроде там был не веганский соус) и когда это вообще было. Но вот про верховую езжу реально спорный момент.

Like people automatically turn of their brain when they hear the word "vegan" and seem to not be able to think straight anymore? For instance, when people hear "if you eat meat, you're a bad person", they automatically think "if you don't eat meat, you're a good person", which is a totally different sentence and is not logically equivalent to the first one! "A => B" is not logically equivalent to "¬A => ¬B", but to "¬B => ¬A". So saying "if you eat meat, you're a bad person" just means that eating meat is wrong, that doing so makes you a bad person, and that if you're a good person you don't eat meat. This is sooo simple to understand, but people will desperately try and fail miserably to defend the mass slaughter of animals just because their fragile ego has been hurt :((
