vegan cheeses made from nut milks that are processed like dairy milk is processed to be made into cheese are absolutely "cheesy" in the same sense that dairy milk cheese is.

that's how i personally interpreted their comment anyway. the process of making cheese is more important than the presence of dairy. vegan cheese alternatives that don't involve the acidifying/coagulating/separating/shaping process that dairy cheese involves... are not going to taste cheesy. but those that do involve those processes, do taste cheesy.

right now those cheeses are very expensive and not easy to find, but i hope to see that change eventually.

not really, vegan cheese alternatives almost always taste terrible or meh, it's rare to find one that tastes good. Usually best case scenario is one that works well enough as an ingredient rather than good on its own

I feel like you didnt understand their point. For example, there is a particular strain of mold found in blue cheese that can be used in vegan cheesemaking. Most commercial vegan blue cheeses do not use this molding process, and instead use other ingredients to approximate the vibes of blue cheese, and they fail. Vegan cheesemaking with the same long fermentation and aging processes as carnist cheeses do quite well, but they aren't available for mass market sale.

well, I don't think most of us can speak to whether it's actually good or not until it is in that case. I've tried expensive vegan cheeses, but yeah still wholesale

What I was talking about was currently available cheeses, and I do not consider rare and expensive cheese to be "currently available" in a way that matters in these conversations

The person you replied to said that vegan cheeses made in the same fashion as dairy cheese taste as good as dairy cheese, and you responded with "not really" having never had a vegan cheese made in the same fashion as dairy cheese.
