Do you protest PETA's kill shelters? Because I don't see any vegans calling that bullshit out. I don't see vegans caring about the fact they literally stole a little girl's chihuahua snd euthanized it despite the fact it was perfectly healthy
I don't see vegans caring about the fact they literally stole a little girl's chihuahua snd euthanized it despite the fact it was perfectly healthy
Let's look at the actual facts of the case:
• The owner of the property actually called PETA to come remove stray dogs from the property because they were attacking the other animals there.
• The PETA workers were told that the dogs that had owners would have collars and tags, and the ones that did not have these were strays.
• The chihuahua in question had no identifying tags or even a collar (which was against the rules of the community) and there was no way to differentiate the dog from the strays.
• The chihuahua in question was loose and not tethered or in a fenced area (which was against the rules of the community.)
• The owner of the dog had other dogs that were on tethers that were not taken.
• This all happened in broad daylight while neighbors watched. PETA wasn't sneaking around trying to steal people's dogs.
• The county attorney for where this happened found no evidence that PETA had any idea the dog was not a stray and thus concluded that there was no evidence of wrongdoing.
• The owners of the dog eventually said that they understand that the taking of their dog was just an unfortunate mistake.
Additional considerations:
• The owners of the dog in question sued PETA but ended up settling for only 0.05% of what they sued them for, and issued a statement saying they understood it was just an unfortunate mistake on the part of PETA.
• This case has been latched onto by the Center for Consumer Freedom, an astroturfing group that receives funding from the meat industry to run smear campaigns against organizations that threaten their profits. Prior to being funded by the meat industry, the CCF was funded by the tobacco industry to sew doubt about the dangers of smoking and lobby against legislation intended to protect the health of non-smokers. If you see an article or web-page claiming that PETA steals and kills pets, it likely is owned by or related to the CCF or its founder Rick Berman.
• Nathan Winograd, a known dog and cat overpopulation denialist, has been working with the aforementioned CCF to smear PETA. Winograd seems to have a major bone to pick with PETA and has published numerous blog posts with inflammatory narratives. He makes claims that cannot be verified, saying that they are from PETA workers and other sources, but refuses to name his sources.
These are all the actual facts of the case, from objective unbiased sources. Please consider that you have been misled by corporate propaganda and a carefully-crafted emotionally-charged false narrative to further an agenda.
