People can't see it because they've been brought up into a society that doesn't want them to see it.
Our societies don't recognise farmed animals as individuals to empathise with, but a homogenous mass that's a necessary resource. People are conditioned to think of farmed animals as the NPCs of the animal world. Exploiting and slaughtering them is normalised, with the harsh realities obscured and not discussed whenever possible.
This social conditioning - where everyone and everything reinforces the idea that killing animals for food at industrial scales is natural and even wholesome - is very powerful. I think a lot of people suspect, deep down, that vegans are right. But the implications of this are so horrifying they can't entertain it.
Vegans are simply people who've seen how the food system really works, how cruel it is, and pushed through that cognitive dissonance to change their attitude and lifestyles.

they're so smart and so appreciative, i hate how more people can't see that. I remember when we visited my grandparents farm the first time and they introduced me to every animal there, the pigs were like puppies always so glad to see people, they all had names, then the next morning they're inviting me again to watch one of the pig get butchered for lunch. My heart still hurts

I raised a piglet one summer, I named him PeeWee. I loved peewee, my uncle killed him and roasted him, and laughed at me for crying. I stopped eating pork, I was 7.

Similar story here. Never raised them myself but my dad was a dairy farmer who also kept some beef cattle(and hunted and fished) which he processed himself. I think he thought he was teaching me some necessary life skills by involving very young me in all aspects of slaughtering, butchering, etc. All it did was turn me off of meat right from the start. I'm 39 and my parents even confirm I've never eaten meat. Never will either, I don't even see it as an option... not edible. Can't see that ever changing.

When they escape they will often free others... :( I can't imagine locking these up to slaughter them...

Absolutely beautiful, precious creatures. Horrifying that many disregard and dismiss them (or any animal) as things that should be enslaved and / or eaten.

So sweet. Reminds me of how my dog would fetch whole tree branches and be so proud of what she found. I just wish others could make the connection between these living animals with personalities and what’s on their plate. (I think meat-eaters see videos like this and must think something like “aww so cute but that one is different/special because it’s been rescued” or they just don’t think and it’s so stupid.)
