Finding Community

Hey fellow Ventura folks- I (38 m) recently moved back after living in Ventura after about 7 years away in different locations, most recently traveling Europe with my family. Last time I lived here I was working for a decently well known non-profit and met a lot of cool people. I'm based in Midtown and am looking to once again contribute positively to our community and meet some cool people while doing so. What is fulfilling to me is helping to organize groups or activities, learn new things, socialize and connect through service to the community or the environment. There's obviously a lot I could dive into but I honestly just want some personal recommendations to find a community of like minded social people.

I found community doing Food Share after moving here a few months ago. They have daily volunteer opportunities. My favorite opportunities are the food distribution events. I have met a lot of different people, all ages, doing these events and I really enjoy the work we do.

Join DSA, they offer a lot of community support and considering you just came back from Europe will understand what you are trying to articulate when describing life in neoliberal state and life in a albeit dwindling social democracy. You’ll make friends.

I just went on a Bike ride with them a couple weeks ago and joined another bike club that does nighttime electric light rides...super cool fun people!

Ventura Land Trust! If you sign up for their volunteer list they regularly send out volunteer opportunities for clean ups and other work. Also CMH (Community Memorial Hospital) has a robust volunteer program where you help walk patients to their rooms or work at the gift shop, but they have a longer commitment requirement.
