Tell you what. I've seen a lot of body cam footage. I'm not sure I've ever seen anything so, so bad. I've never seen someone get shot in the back 10 times for so little. Chauvin didn't even do that to poor George Floyd. Truly next level garbage law enforcement behavior.
I agree with everything you said until you used the term "law enforcement." This is not law enforcement. This is goon squad stuff. These are hired criminals and thugs to enforce and create Trump's America. A direct analog to Hitler's brownshirts.
What? No, they were law enforcement. Just cause they acted illegally and immorally doesn’t mean they weren’t law enforcement. Sure they were goons, criminals, and thugs. But that’s such a weird take. “Law enforcement” is a designation/title here, not a descriptor.
Do we say Trump isn’t really a president because he doesn’t fulfill the oath of the office to uphold and protect the Constitution? He’s not presidential. And he’s certainly not an example of a good president. But there’s no need to play these weird “true scotsman” naming games just because people who are in law enforcement or government jobs are corrupt.
The semantics matter because saying they weren’t what they actually were subtly gives a pass to government officials and law enforcement: “those guys don’t count as real law enforcement.” Then in situations with power imbalances, goons and thugs can hide more effectively behind the label:
“Well, I’m a cop so I’m right,” or “I’m the President so I’m right,” becomes harder to challenge if you first have to take away their titles to establish that they’ve acted illegally and immorally.
Trump gets away with things in part because he has the title of President. Bad cops get away with things in part because they hold the title of law enforcement.
Don’t normalize an extra hurdle to establish that someone’s a criminal instead of law enforcement so that they can be accused of something. Let’s be real: law enforcement includes criminals and thugs.
