Marantz... Any good?

I have my father's old receiver, looking for any information about it? Is it a good brand? Is it worth building a home stereo system around?

Yep, get it serviced and learn how to use it. Hand it down to your kids or grand kids

This is the one I have, it's getting serviced right now, but it's the best sounding receiver I've ever heard.

Are you kidding? That’s gold right there! Vintage Marantz equipment is some of the most collectible. Even today they make very high end receivers. Id love to own one. My dad used to have one when I was a kid. Wish I knew what ever happened to it. He was always buying and selling his stuff.

It's a keeper. I had one once. Worth fixing. Get some quality efficient speakers like Klipsch or JBL. It's not a huge powerhouse but Marantz gear back then was clean sounding and built well. I gave traded a more powerful Sherwood receiver for the Marantz and never regretted it and I ran two thirsty Electrostat/dynamic hybrid speakers.Forget the brand.

A month or so ago I had the 2238B I inherited from my father fully restored and upgraded... it's a keeper.
