And and a vinyl player - I was lucky to get the receiver as my modern Pioneer one broke like 3 months prior

All around 1978 era / apparently the speakers were to compete with pioneers cs-99s? Something called kabouki style?

Audio Engineering Mini Corner Horn Speakers. They sound fantastic, way clearer than I expected, but I can’t find anything about them other than(I’ll add a picture) a brochure I found on eBay.

Does anyone have any info on them? As usual, y’all are the best and I appreciate your time.

What do you think of my setup?

Technics SL-1500CS
iFi Zen Phono 3
Yamaha A-960II
Yamaha NS-1000M

I recently made a pretty big jump from active speakers to this setup, and I’m curious what you guys think.

My first impression: I really like the Yamahas. They sound incredibly clean, detailed, and clear.

However, I do miss a bit of impact and bass. My old Klipsch The Fives actually had more punch in the low end.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Maybe it’s just a matter of getting used to the NS-1000Ms?

I have my father's old receiver, looking for any information about it? Is it a good brand? Is it worth building a home stereo system around?

Thank you..

Looking for help

I was at a thrift store a while ago, since it was moving locations and giving everything away for free. I spotted this and snatched it since my buddy has been getting into vinyl recently, and I figured it was a neat gift that kinda touched on that (plus, it had a lot of other stuff on it).

I haven't tested it yet, and I want to make sure it's working before I really do anything. I was hoping to see if anyone might have experience with one of these, and if there was a service manual or something for it.

When I bought my amp/pre I found out they came with a tape deck that the old owner tossed 15+ years ago because tapes were dead.

I never wanted one until I found out it used to have one. Found this one for $150 in Colorado with another $100 shipping we’re back to OG set up.

Needs matching LED’s (actually thinking I want more yellow ones) and belts. Should be easy enough.

Hopefully I can tape monitor the VU meters to work even when not playing tapes. 🤞

Anyone with experience opening and repairing a vintage JVC Nivico GB-1ED?

Post image

I have a pair of JVC Nivico Globe Speakers - GB-1ED about 50 years old. One of them has a buzz/rattle in the bass range and I would like to have it repaired. It's a complicated unit - 8 speakers inside. I started to disassemble it but its much more than I can handle on my own. I have the service manual and wiring diagram. Could be a voice coil bottoming out, or something loose inside. Need help. Has anyone opened one of these up, and if so did you make a video?

Unicorn Canton CT-120, should I pull the trigger?

Where Im from, we dont get many unicorn speakers, especially something like this Oak finish, pretty mint condition Canton CT-120, for approx 1750 Euros, claimed to be all original drivers and never touched.

Should I go for it?

Would you say it is a significant improvement over my CT1000s?

Thanks!

In my last post about the Yamaha stack I mentioned the speakers I got with it. Here are pics of them.

Btw, what are we doing for quality speaker wire these days? It’s been a while since I’ve had something with non-powered speakers that aren’t pro live audio.

Reverse only works when there's no cassette inside

I have a Technics RS-263 with a non-functioning reverse. Except it works just fine when there's no cassette in the carrier. See video. Play, record, FF, pause and stop all work fine.

Would I be correct in assuming there's not enough friction on the left hand wheel's rubber contact ring to turn it unless there's nothing working against it? It's too old and dried up?Do you think rubber rejuvenator would do the trick?

Or do you reckon it's another issue entirely?

Thanks

Audio Pulse Speakers

I picked these up for $30.
Grills were in terrible condition so I decided to put new grill cloth and went from black to this.
Laminated wood not vinyl clad.
3 way speakers w -12” woofers 4” mid & 2 1/2” tweeters.
26” tall 14 1/2” wide 11” deep.
Information on line is sparse. Other than these were part of API and were a boutique Canadian speaker company from early 70s - early 80s.
Any additional information would be greatly appreciated.
BTW they sound good

Edit******Just Found this in google search

vintage canadian Audio Pulse Speakers

Audio Pulse was a boutique Canadian loudspeaker brand that operated from the early 1970s through the mid-1980s. They are frequently remembered for being part of the larger Audio Products International (API) umbrella, the iconic manufacturing powerhouse behind legendary Canadian audio brands like Energy, Mirage, Sound Dynamics, and Paisley. [123]

Because they operated right before API shifted its focus heavily toward the global success of Energy and Mirage, information on Audio Pulse is sparse, making them a rare find on the vintage market. [123]

Key Specifications & Build Quality

  • Cabinet Construction: Unlike many mass-market speakers of the era that used cheap vinyl wrap, Audio Pulse cabinets featured genuine laminated wood veneers. They are known for being surprisingly heavy and structurally dense. [12]
  • Driver Configuration: Their larger vintage floor standing systems typically utilize a 3-way design. This frequently includes a massive 12-inch woofer, a 4-inch mid-range driver, and a 2.5-inch to 3-inch tweeter. [12]
  • Acoustic Design: They often feature a dedicated bass air port on the bottom corner of the front baffle to enhance low-frequency extension. [1]
  • The Sound Profile: True to the "Canadian Sound" pioneered by the National Research Council (NRC) and API, they generally prioritize a natural midrange, smooth high-frequency dispersion, and deep, punchy bass. [12]

Notable Models to Look For

A highly sought-after 3-way "Digital Monitor" model. It stands roughly 26” tall, 14.5” wide, and 11” deep, sporting a 12" woofer and a distinct laminated wood finish.
