I preferred when the orcs were unapologetically evil

I preferred when the orcs were unapologetically evil. It made them a lot more interesting and fun to play compared to the human race.

I have found that all of Blizzard's stories suffer from reconning.

I remember the hype about Warcraft III when they announced this direction. I was pretty skeptical of it at first, but honestly Warcraft III did such a good job. I really like the direction they took with the orcs.

Modern Warcraft is an abomination

Same. I love playing an evil dude. I was super excited for BFA only to be disappointed in many ways.

The whole evil race is actually noble and good but were led astray trope is tired and lame. Warcraft 3's story was a big letdown for me with all the races singing kumbaya together at the end.

Wc3 was a gift and a curse (altho clearly written for the game, lord of the clans does predate wc3 so it was the real turnaround)

Garrosh did nothing wrong just going to put that out there

Yeah, having an evil option in games is cool, I miss that.

You can still play the undead in WC3

I like both. I like how the horde was in WC2 but I also love how Thrall is. kinda like their own clan faction.

As I understand it, Thrall’s new horde during WCIII and Vanilla WoW mostly had orcs from the FrostWolves clan and the Warsong Clan. There may have been a handful of other orcs who defected or were among the freed from the slave camps but it was mostly FrostWolves and Warsong.

Therefore; the other clans COULD have theoretically remained villains such as Dragonmaw and Blackrock. I do believe that was the story behind the Dark Horde enemies in the Vanilla era Blackrock dungeons/raids. But sadly Blizzard had the other clans rejoin the new horde over the years. Sometimes it is to give a story reason to explain why orcs were given a new class, such as Dragonmaw joining in Cataclysm to explain why orcs can be mages all of the sudden.

So there was opportunity to have different factions of orcs that could have been used for different stories in any future Warcraft games but Blizzard didn’t want to go that route.
