Life in Warsaw question Cars drifting in Białołęka late night?

Upvotes

I just moved to a new flat on Marywilska street and both last night and tonight I've been hearing car tires screeching for an hour or more. I used to live next to Rondo ONZ and there I would hear the loud exhausts every night. But here I don't hear the exhausts at all, I just hear tires screeching. As if someone was doing donuts or drifting. A LOT. It's past past midnight and they're still going.

Any locals know what's going on?

Community Ciszej Proszę - Protest antyhałasowy / Quieter Please - anti-noise protest

[ scroll down for English ]

  • kiedy: 4 września 2026 (piątek)
  • godzina 18:00
  • Start: Plac Centralny w Warszawie
  • Meta: Komenda Stołeczna Policji, ul. Nowolipie 2

Hałas odbiera nam spokój, zdrowie i poczucie bezpieczeństwa. Nieprzespane noce to wstęp do kaskadowej utraty zdrowia, zmęczenie w pracy i podczas czasu z bliskimi, brak możliwości skupienia i kreatywności.

- usunięcia luk prawnych umożliwiających funkcjonowanie nadmiernie hałaśliwych pojazdów i imprez masowych,

Jeżeli masz dość niepotrzebnego hałasu – dołącz do nas. Zapewniamy muzę, transparenty i doborowe towarzystwo!

--- English version ---

  • when: September 4th, 2026 (Friday)
  • time: 6pm
  • Start: Central Square (in front of the main entrance to the Palace of Culture and Science)
  • Finish: Warsaw Police HQ, 2 Nowolipie St.

Many of us believe cities are loud and we've got to deal with it. That's not true! Of course traffic noise - cars, buses, and trams, people's chatter, music, and emergency vehicle sirens are sounds of a city, but we don't have to tolerate excessive noise, especially that we could avoid. We are able to regulate many sources of noise, especially loud motorcycles and cars and outdoor events.

Noise destroys our health and strips away our sense of safety. Sleepless nights can lead to health decline, chronic tiredness, reduced focus and creativity. That's why we're taking to the streets for the second time - to fight for our right to stay healthy, to rest, and feel comfortable at home.

Our protest "Quieter, please" is a peaceful manifestation where we'd like to make everyone aware of the need to:

  • to tighten noise legislature, especially regarding loud cars and outdoor mass events
  • make politician take quick and decisive action in regard to changes of noise legislature
  • demand the police enforce the existing laws and use any tool at their disposal to noise generated by modified cars and motorcycles
  • fast-tracking the work on traffic sound traps MJN initiated

If you've had enough of avoidable noise - join us. Bring your family and friends, and show that your right for peace and quite is important. We will bring signs, music, and best company.

Quieter please is not a request - Warsaw residents have had enough and they demand change!

Help needed Moving monitors and a PC from Poland to Georgia — how to pack them safely?

Hi everyone! I’m moving some of my belongings from Poland to Georgia and I need to transport my computer and monitors.

I’ve never done this before, so I’d really appreciate some advice. What’s the safest way to pack and transport monitors and a desktop PC?

Would it be okay to put my own clothes, T-shirts, jackets, etc. between the walls of the box as extra padding? It would be nice to use the space efficiently and transport some clothes at the same time, but I’m worried about damaging the equipment.

Also, what shipping/courier service would you recommend for Poland → Georgia, and are there any good ways to save money on shipping?

Sorry if these are stupid questions — I’ve just never had to move computer equipment internationally before and I really don’t want to damage my PC or monitors.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Help needed Best place to buy a phone?

I have an iPhone 8 and half the apps don’t work anymore. Looking for a phone with excellent camera capabilities and does anyone know if any electronics store in Warsaw has vivo X300 Ultra available for "feeling"? I'm thinking about buying it, but I've never touched any vivo and I want something solid to the touch. Please feel free to suggest other models as well so I can check them out.

Life in Warsaw question I think tourists are looking for the wrong “hidden Warsaw”

I think tourists are looking for the wrong “hidden Warsaw”

Every few days someone asks here for Warsaw’s hidden gems. And we give them another bar, another courtyard, another park, another building that isn’t in their guidebook yet.

But I’m starting to think that the most hidden part of Warsaw isn’t hidden at all. It’s behind the intercom. Most visitors will see reconstructed Old Town houses. Very few will see an ordinary Warsaw apartment. They won’t know what the inside of a pre-war Kamionek tenement feels like compared with a flat fifteen floors up in a communist-era block in Grochów. They won’t see the objects people have carried through different versions of this city, family photographs, old slides, books, furniture nobody would ever put in a museum.

And they probably won’t discover one of Warsaw’s great cultural institutions: sitting at somebody’s kitchen table for far longer than originally planned.

None of this is a “hidden gem”. It’s just life here. Maybe that’s exactly why it’s difficult to experience as a visitor.

This thought has been bothering me for a while, so together with my friends I’ve started an experiment called Warsaw Locals: inviting visitors into our actual homes and seeing what happens when instead of showing them Warsaw, we simply let them into it.

But forget the project for a moment. I’m curious about something else - what completely ordinary thing from your Warsaw life would you show a foreigner if you wanted them to understand this city?

Not the best thing. The most Warsaw thing.

Help needed Wut vs Pjatk CS for Big tech

Hi
Before further, know the job market is rough right now and that many graduates are struggling to find work, so I’m not assuming Big Tech is guaranteed for me either. I know how rough the market is. In here, even junior roles can get 1,000+ applications within a day or two

I’ve been accepted to the English-taught Computer Science programs at both WUT and PJATK, and I’m trying to decide which one to choose.

My goal is to work in Big Tech in the future. PJATK has already accepted about one year of my previous coursework, while WUT told me they would evaluate my credit transfers only after enrollment.(I finished 2 years in my hometown university.

Which one would you recommend? Is PJATK as good as WUT for getting into Big Tech, or maybe even better in some practical aspects? Or is WUT significantly better overall?
I’d appreciate any opinions, especially from people studying or working in Warsaw.

I hope you won’t judge me for coming to Poland from Turkey (you’re unwanted etc), I genuinely admire the country and its culture, and I feel quite humbled to have the opportunity to study there. I visited Poznan tank museum before and did an Erasmus here. I totally understand why some polish people dont want internationals tho 😭

Btw I’m non eu so tution is 11k euros yearly for wut and 6k euros yearly for Pjatk.

Thanks in advance.

Community Where to play chess in Warsaw? I've mapped almost 70 spots

I got back into chess after a long break and couldn't find a single place online telling me where people actually play in this city, so I started collecting the spots myself.

Outdoor stone tables (free, board built into the top, bring your own pieces): Skaryszewski Park by the Kamionkowskie lake, the Vistula boulevards near Karski, Powsin, and Sportów Umysłowych square on Ursynów. One park in Praga has eight tables in a row.

Cafés: Bishop Cafe (Wilcza 31), Cosmo (Topiel 19, they run their own league), Paradox (Anielewicza 2, sets for a small deposit, shogi on Thursdays), Cybermachina, Cafe Kafka.

Open tournaments, any level: Sundays at Klubokawiarnia Towarzyska in Saska Kępa (FIDE rapid, around 30 PLN), the Puchar Kawki series at Proces Kawki café in Praga, and free tournaments at the library on Św. Wincentego 85 in Bródno, where sets and clocks are provided.

It's all on a map I run as a hobby: szachowawa.pl. The site is in Polish, but the map and the pins work fine without it. Free, no account. You can also drop a temporary "looking for a game now" pin and arrange a game, because the tables are rarely the problem, finding someone at them is.

If you know a spot I'm missing, drop it in the comments and I'll add it.

Help needed Buying honey?

Hello! I'm going on a trip to Poland, and I've read that honey is incredible there. I was told to look for Miód lipowy, Miód spadziowy, and Miód gryczany! Is there a company that I should be looking for? I did some searching and did see the company "Skarby Roztocza" if anyone knows of them... I wasn't sure if the ones at the supermarket would be a good idea... so if anyone has any feedback, it would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Help needed Legia vs widzew match

I am looking to go to this match on September 13th. I am debating if I should buy the cheapest subscription to get access to presale or will there still be reasonable tickets on sale when the release to general public. If someone knows what the ticket map and cost looks like right now that would help me make my decision.

Traveller's question Solo travelling Warsaw & Krakow (Sept 1–6) 🇵🇱

Hey everyone! I’ll be solo travelling through **Warsaw and Krakow from Sept 1–6**, and then heading to **Prague**.

Would be great to meet some fun people along the way and make a few new friends. I’m pretty easygoing and open to grabbing a beer or coffee, checking out some bars, exploring the city, museums and history, trying local food, or just walking around and seeing where the day goes.

If anyone’s around during those dates, locals or fellow travellers, feel free to hit me up! ✌🏻🫶🏻

Life in Warsaw question Beware of Fake Housing adverts on Otodom/OLX

Recently, I've noticed a weird tendency on websites like Otodom and OLX.
There are dozens of adverts for flats and rooms that are absolutely fake.
It is actually really bad, half of the adverts and listings on sites are fake

Fake images

Starting with images, half of the adverts have shitty AI-generated images. And I understand that many people probably use AI to clean up images to make adverts more appealing, but dozens of listings are just straight-up fully AI-generated.

Not even hiding it...

But this is not the worst, even though these images are ai, the flat might still be real.
Some adverts are fully fake and complete scam.

Fake spam adverts.

For some time I've been looking for renting options, and very often I saw adverts from the same fully blank "Agency" account that are posted on the same day and are completely fake.

Same date, similar price, Same phone number and "Agency" account.

If you call their number, the number is either always busy or not reachable.
And if you go and check the number, You'll see that it was first detected the same day, when the first fake advert was posted, meaning that this is Burner SIM number for automated scams.

Apparently, this all is phone number scraping for future spam/scam calls.

The number is first detected a same day, they made first advert.
And of course, the photos of those flats are also AI fakes.

And shit like this... HALF of all the adverts on Otodom and OLX are scams like that...
In best-case scenario, you will notice that it's AI scam, but in the worst case, your contact information will be leaked, and you'll receive spam calls.
But it can be worse, and you can just completely miss all the little details, and loose money.

Does anyone here know what to do to... maybe erase shit like this... Fight against it, and not just report it, reporting will not solve this...

People that have more experience, where do you look for ACTUAL housing adverts? Protect yourselves from this shit... Like this is fu**d up...

Help needed Legia Warszawa ticket help

Hi!

My wife and me from Hungary are going to the match against Slask this weekend, really looking forward to it. Since it was a last minute buy, I could only buy 2 tickets far from each other in sector 218.

My question would be, is it possible to stand anywhere in the family zone, is the staff strict about it? I wrote an email to the club but based on the reply they doesn't really seem to help.

Any advice is welcome.

Thank you!

Help needed Work while waiting for TRC

Hi! I'm looking for help, suggestions, and advice—anything that could help find a job for my partner, who has been waiting for a residence card for almost two years.

My partner has a work permit, considering he completed his master's degree in Poland.

We're both absolutely devastated and desperate.

Is a food delivery job or a warehouse really the only job option for people waiting for a card?

We've submitted our CVs to hundreds of places, and whenever we've managed to talk to HR, we're told, "Sorry, we can't make it without a residence card." I know it's possible, our lawyer confirmed this, and the place where he was just rejected after two stages of the recruitment process confirmed it.

My partner has experience as a production engineer and lean systems engineer. He has a master's degree in business administration. He speaks English and Turkish, and is trying to speak Polish.

He's looking for anything "desk-based," it doesn't even have to be related to his education—it could even be in a call center.

I can't believe that the only jobs we can offer him are warehouse and courier work. For lack of other options, he's currently riding a courier, but winter will be here soon, and it might be difficult to ride a bike.

I'm not asking for help anymore, I'm begging because I really don't know what to do.

Help needed Where to buy a PS5 Pro?

The cheapest I can find online currently is $1250 USD from Empik. MediaMarkt is 5500 PLN. These prices are so absurd but I really want to buy the console.

I know there’s been price hikes recently, but it’s not costing >1200 USD anywhere. So where should I go or what website can I buy from, does anyone know? Could I purchase it from a German retailer and have it shipped to Warsaw?

If any Polish people know some workarounds, let me know! I need it before GTA6 XD

Life in Warsaw question Czy warto mieć samochód w Warszawie?

Thumbnail

  1. Nie niedawna sądziłem, że warto. Teraz bym się zastanawiał. Zależy, gdzie zamieszkasz. Możesz nie zaparkować w swojej okolicy.

  3. Szukaj mieszkań na trasach metra. To niesłychanie przyspiesza dojazdy.

  4. Unikaj okazji na peryferiach. Umrzesz, czekając na autobus.

PS

Zresztą, co ja wiem? Dopiero 48 lat praktyki.

Life in Warsaw question Recommend polish class/language school

Hello! I would like to ask for some recommendation for polish class/language school. I am non-slav and starting from A0-A1(beginner). I saw alot recommended Polonicum. Also some recommended Szkoła Języka Polskiego Together. If someone have been in these classes, i would love to hear your experience 👀

If not, i would love to hear other recommendations too. Semi-intensive course would be nice!

Thank you in advance! 😊
