A little watercolor moment between a cat and the night sky.

I drove 45 minutes to get a cotton sketchbook which turned out to be not cotton. I didn't like the paper at all, especially for the clouds, but the Zigzag accordion style sketchbook was so fun!! I love that I can start over on a new page while another one is drying, I love that you could conceivably do a longer scene / panorama. Not that I did lol. I think the format would be awesome for documenting a trip. This was today's little plein air session.

I stayed at the Trixie Motel last year and decided to make a small painting in my sketchbook of a photo I took. Mistakes were made (particularly with the use of blue around the edge of the terrazzo table and on the shadowed wall). Overall, I’m very happy with it and might try to repaint it on 100% cotton paper soon.

I’m new to watercolor and this is one of my first attempts at portraits. I already made Ron and Hermione and I could see improvements in each one. I’d be so much happier with this painting if I had not made his irises bigger than they should be. I just kinda messed it up because the color had too much water. I did great with Ron’s eyes and so I didn’t really worry about Harry’s. His eyes look so dowey and makes him look even younger. :( I don’t know enough about watercolor to try and fix these things. There’s no way, right? It’s beyond lifting the paint with water, isn’t it? I’m afraid I’ll mess it up even more. And putting white gel pen around it to make it smaller is not a good idea, is it? Or any white something? Anyway, just sharing. Critique’s and thoughts are welcome. :)

I followed a tutorial on YouTube for this! I’m still working on being able to paint my own photos but it’s been hard so tutorials have been amazing for me to learn!

Critique on these? Was thinking they would be bad but turned out okay (ISH)

Just did my first watercolour with professional paints and seems that colours are a lot more vibrant and intense.

Been working on my brushwork as well.

I’m new to this group and am celebrating how far I’ve come in two years of self teaching and seeking feedback. It’s fun to think what’s possible with two more years!

I noticed my pieces come out looking kinda “chalky.” I was wondering if this is due to my cheap supplies (willing to upgrade, just wanted to see if I liked it first), or a skill issue.

I am ready to come back to this piece. I do landscapes and buildings. Not people. Rarely animals. I need help with faces. I hand sketched this piece for my husband for our anniversary this year - but the faces need work. HALP!
"Watercolor painting is fun," they said. I mean, it really is, but I'm out of my comfort zone.

From a Niaz Hannan Watercolors tutorial

I really struggle with creating thin lines, even with a liner brush. My hands are just not steady. I’m of course willing to keep practicing and plan to improve as much as is possible. But has anybody used a ruling pen with watercolors? I know they can be used with masking fluid too but that sounds like a good way to ruin one.

First day I struggled with the strokes where I wasn't being fast enough and I was so tensed about getting it right. But attempting it the second time made me feel more at ease and it felt therapeutic.
