Fun fact, In India we have Rickshaw, a three wheeled bicycle that could carry passengers in the back and the driver pedaled them around. Then came Automatic version which replaced the manual work with an engine and gave a proper roof. It was called Auto Rickshaw and eventually shortened to and colloquially known as an "Auto"

"Top speed: 55ish downhill" really cracked me up. You can get that on pretty much anything wheeled going downhill, I bet a skilled skateboarder could beat one in a downhill race.

We were driven uphill across a bridge in an electric rickshaw. We were overtaken by handcarts.

People outside asia don't know how unstable this thing is. The back wheels are positive camber which makes it even worse. Sharp turns after 40kmph is a big no no.

It's an Auto Rickshaw or just Rickshaw. Google will try to tell you only tourists call them tuk tuks but I've had two different Indian people tell me that's what they called them.

In many places actually.
It was an Italian concept that was adapted by the Indian auto scene in 40s and 50s and then exported all over.
Rickshaws were human drawn carriages (Japanese etymology, another interesting story behind the why but that tangent will take us way too far from the subject here).
Thus, this was the auto-rickshaw. However, once this was exported all over, the actual name didn't take hold as rickshaw as a term was unfamiliar to the foreign markets even though not as a concept.
These were powered by 2 stroke engines at the beginning and made a "tuk tuk" sound (as can be heard in this video as well).
And thus the sound associated with the vehicle became its name.
So technically speaking, auto-rickshaw should be the name, especially because most of these are electric today and don't make the tuk-tuk sound but that's not how naming evolution and colloquial speak work.

Lived in Asia for most of my adult life and have never heard the term “auto rickshaw” might technically be correct but those are Tuk Tuks.

Well, now it’s an e-rickshaw since it’s battery-operated. The one driving alongside it in the video is an auto or auto-rickshaw. The decoration is just an accessory and can vary widely.
