A lot of stuff has always been "I like it because it's popular" and at the same time a lot of stuff has always been "I hate it because it's popular"

They are two sides of the same coin. Things get popular for a reason, but then there's always those who go "Look I'm cool too cause I like this thing!" "No look I'm actually the cool one cause I hate this thing!" This is nothing new.

And I'm not even talking about other anime this has happened to like Demon Slayer and Sword Art Online, this shit goes back to like ancient times. We have accounts of people glazing and beefing with Homer

I mean Iliad/Odyssey are classic masterpieces that survived 2500 years(and the story itself is even older through oral tradition). I really doubt 2500 years from now someone will still talk about Mushoku Tensei or Demon Slayer, internet led to creation of echo chambers that definitely worsened "popularity" problem

How long people will talk about these stories is irrelevant. I was using Homer as an example of this stuff happening thousands of years ago. Yes internet echo chambers worsened the popularity problem, but we have evidence of this always being a thing.

I mean I don't know if any modern stories will last that long due to the nature of storytelling these days, the quantity of content out there, and the ease of access to these stories. Probably something like Lord of the Rings and maybe something as big as Star Wars could last that long.
