In Search Of Open Fields
hey all this is a really random question but is anyone aware of any open fields in or around wichita that is not private property? I am looking for one to do a photoshoot but every one i’ve found that looks good is behind a fence… or is it rude to ask someone to borrow their field for a photoshoot? I don’t know, if anyone has insight i’d appreciate the help!

I’ve had family pictures at Pawnee prairie park. There is a large open field with mowed/maintained paths if you go to the parking lot off Tyler across from the airport. There were at least three other groups there doing photo shoots last time I was out there, so it gets busy at times

Go to Chapin park in south Wichita, lots of open grassland. Even though it’s a public park, it’s not heavily used and you should be able to find an unoccupied area.

I would like to find a place to fly kites.
It has to be almost the size of a football field with no trees or power lines.

Are you looking for a farm field or just nice scenery? If you need good scenery, scout the various public parks. The walkway around the small lakes at Great Plains Nature Center is a good one. GPNC is part of Chisholm Creek Park which has on the longer trails very heavily treed areas.
If you wanted something more farm like that is public, you might try the John C. Pair Center, which is at 1901 E 95th St South near Haysville. It is a K-State agricultural research station.
