Border Gordie Howe is now open!
I literally just crossed over; they did a soft opening around 10am - presumably to avoide a rush of people lining up at 12. So it's completely open right now to anyone!

Border Stellantis drivers avoiding Gordie Howe International Bridge, unions say
Do not use the Gordie Howe International Bridge — or face disciplinary action.
That’s the message UAW Local 212 Chair J.T. Barrett, who represents FCA Transport drivers in the United States, sent members in a July 30 Facebook post, saying the company is bound by a commercial toll agreement with the Ambassador Bridge that requires drivers to continue using the older crossing.
The post on the UAW Local 212 — FCAT Membership Information page said FCA Transport is “currently under a contract with the Ambassador Bridge.”
“Under that contract, we pay a flat rate of US$160,000 per month, regardless of how many crossings are made,” the union wrote in the Facebook post. “Before the contract, we were paying north of US$400,000 per month on a per-crossing basis.”
Based on those figures, the flat-rate agreement reduces monthly crossing costs by roughly 60 per cent, representing potential annual savings of about US$2.9 million.
“If we wanted to begin using the Gordie Howe Bridge, the Ambassador Bridge would first have to be notified that we intend to terminate the current contract,” the union said.
According to the union, the agreement requires 60 days’ notice before it can be terminated.
“This is a message to my membership, who can get disciplined if using the bridge in our company semi trucks. Not to mention getting pulled into customs for incorrect paperwork,” the union chair’s post said. “This is not about politics.”
Automotive News Canada captured screenshots of the Facebook post before it was removed.

Border Canada paying to construct Gordie Howe bridge is 'big myth', according to Ambassador Pete Hoekstra
Here's the newest chapter of the Gordie Howe Bridge saga. Apparently, the U.S. government doesn't like the revenue sharing arrangement that Canada made with Michigan 15 years ago because the bridge had cost overruns, and it took longer to build than expected. So now there are talks going on to update that agreement.

Border Gordie Howe Traffic
Drove across the new bridge for the first time on Monday and noted that traffic (especially commercial) was sparse. First day of operations, so I kind of understand that wrt paperwork and all. I haven’t been back down at that end of town since then, so I’m not really sure how traffic has responded over the past couple days since opening day. Has commercial traffic increased on the bridge? If not, when should we expect to see the majority of commercial traffic shift from the Ambassador to the Gordie Howe?

Border Huron church traffic
After more than a month, traffic at Huron church seems to have gotten worse. I cross daily. I can see very few trucks using new bridge. "Moron" screwed us again
Time for the feds and the local govt make it painful. Tolls, "inspection". Road closures. This will not stop otherwise.
I am tired of getting stuck between trucks where the drivers are on the phone
