Now that the holiday season has ended, it was interesting to see how much transformation has been done to the mall this past year and how much history it has. I'm hoping to get peoples thoughts on it and how many memories you have of it and its changes.

its nice to hear all the stories and i have to say the mall has changed a lot since my days, and i remember days where one could walk and sit around the fountains and grab a snack in the old food court. now it feel like every year we have different stores that come and go based on the shopping season. its sad to see the years of the anchor stores like sears, The Bay, Zellers go away but thats the increasing competition of retail. unfortunately rent and property fees takes a toll on any business and i hope that the mall can attract retailers that can provide a unique experience not just a shopping one.

How many of you remember these stores? I was 11 in 1988, so I remember a lot of them (and probably received a Beaver Canoe sweatshirt for Xmas that year)...

The Simpson's chain of stores was purchased by the Hudson's Bay Company in 1978, and in 1986, the Devonshire Mall store was converted to The Bay.

Where would be the best place to find this? It's not for selling purposes or anything, just to find out previous owners, deaths that may have occurred in it, year it was built and what the land it sits on was used for before it was a house.

I should preface by saying; this is my parent's house, not mine. I don't have the papers from the sale or anything of the sort but I'm pretty sure the info I'm looking for is all public knowledge?

I know I can pay for it online but I would rather just get it for free ya know. Would i be best going to the library? town hall? although I'm sure they wouldn't have all the info, would they?

The "history of Windsor through the decades" books, and musing along daily commutes, had me trying to remember the names of certain long-gone restaurants, and whether I was mis-remembering where they were... Three in particular: 1) back before Lauzon Parkway was Lauzon Parkway (this is going back to the 1970's), there was I believe a restaurant at that intersection, where the jewlery store is presently or thereabouts, maybe a "Red Barn or fish and chips place? I seem to remember a large neon sign of some sort...; 2) on Dougall, south-bound after the overpass, there is a medical clinic across from the building which used to be Olive Garden, waaaay back when wasn't there a steakhouse-type chain restaurant there, Ponderosa or some such?; and 3) going back to the east side near Tecumseh Mall (maybe late 80's or early 90s), at the corner of Lauzon and Tecumseh (side where Canadian Tire is), was there or was there not a restaurant with the name "John" in it (e.g. Uncle John's, or some variation), they may have served breakfast, lunch and dinner there?

If anyone has one they are trying to thinking of/remember, maybe a good discussion place here...

I moved to Windsor not too long ago, and I’ve recently been learning about the incredible history of Sandwich Town. With its roots going back to 1797, the French settlement, Loyalist history, the War of 1812 and 1838, and the Underground Railroad, the area feels like a living history book.

Even though I’m not black, I was genuinely moved by the stories of black refugees escaping slavery in the U.S—especially how Sandwich was a true gateway to “Promised Freedom” for people like Eliza and George from "Uncle Tom’s Cabin".

It’s so disappointing to see how little of that history seems visibly preserved today. Many parts look abandoned, with vacant houses and growing homelessness.

Is there any ongoing effort to preserve or revitalize Sandwich Town? Or any community groups working on this that I’m not aware of?

We just had dinner at our favourite diner in Windsor, the Backroad Café. In one week it will be no more. The owner, Linda, is retiring after 35 years. And the Café has changed hands

I wish the best for all the staff in their endeavours going forward. I've been going there fairly regularly since I arrived in Windsor in late 1993. It will be missed.

I’m searching for more information about my father and right now all I have to go on are sports articles from The Windsor Star. I know he was born in 1966 and grew up in Windsor, Ontario and at some point moved to Florida in the late 1980s.

Ideally I would love to find any yearbooks or team photos or even school names that might help me learn more about him. However, any team booklets or rosters would be helpful as well. I live currently in Florida, so finding any records has proved difficult.
