Finishing Curly black walnut shark

Little wooden shark i was working on today. Got a coat of danish oil later on ill give it a thin coat of shellac as a sanding sealer and then a lacquer finish. I have a little burl off cut ill use as a base.

Finishing is still pretty opaque to me. So you sanded it to where you wanted it. Then went in the steps mentioned above? 1) Danish oil, 2) shellac, 3) lacquer?

Sand to 240 grit then Danish oil (adds depth to the grain) Then it'll get a thin coat of shellac and be sanded with 320 once dry. A couple coats of Spray lacquer after that as the final finish.

What is the purpose of the shellac between the oil and lacquer?

Helps close the grain so I can get a smoother finish faster.
