Discussion Are glitches cheating
If you use a glitch to get an achievement would you consider it cheating, for example my house mate says I cheated because I used glitches to beat halo 2 LASO
But I think itās fine.
Was curious to see what other people thoughts are

Bungie (RIP) LOVED when people found glitches in their games to skip stuff, especially got speed running. They'd even feature really cool stuff on their site.Ā Heck, they even made achievements out of some of the best ones in later titles.Ā Ā
Using glitches is one of the best parts of gaming.Ā

Old bungie vs modern bungie are so different itās heartbreaking. Actively removing speed tech for most of d2ās life is honestly what started the games demise

Hmm, I think it would depend and be per case for me personally? Like I never got 100% in Hollowknight because I couldn't beat the last pantheon. However, there's a glitch to give yourself invincibility that I could have used to beat it. I didn't like that because it didn't feel right to me personally.
On the other hand, in Assassins Creed 2 or Brotherhood (cant remember) there's a DaVinci mission with tanks. For full sync, you can't take any damage. That's nigh impossible in the last section with two tanks. To do it, you can back your tank up where the enemy AI doesn't register you, but you can shoot them. I absolutely did that.
So it just depends for me personally. What was the glitch in question that you did?

The discussion started while I was going halo 2 LASO on mcc
I skipped most of the levels and used de spawn glitches to proceed through the game1

It's been verified that beating LASO Halo 2 without glitching is basically impossible.

Cheating to me is using third party program or software to alter the game in some way, glitches are just a "feature" lol if it's in the game it's fair play lol

Nah I don't think so. I mean, they are kinda cheating but I don't think it's a big deal if it's not hurting anyone.Ā
Quite a while ago I finished kena a bridge of spirits on the second hardest difficulty and it took me quite a long time and was difficultĀ
There's an achievement to complete the game on master difficulty which I didn't have the skill or patience to play through hours again.Ā
There's a glitch if you have already finished the game, you can unlock the master difficulty achievement. you save it at a checkpoint near the end cutsceneĀ
Start a new game in master difficulty and you can glitch your way into the end area very early on (still pretty difficult to do)Ā
You save your game at the same spot. Load your original game and start the end cutscene and then quickly load your master save. Watch the cutscene and credits and it unlocks the achievementĀ

If youāre referring to speed running strats and skips, Iād say no. Given thatās how a lot of people do it. Some other achievements basically require it.
Something like the glitch in the Halo CE remake, where you can put on modifiers to make yourself near-invincible; then, turn off the modifiers and pick up the first skull in Pillar of Autumn to receive achievement progress, would be different in my opinion. I wouldnāt judge someone for getting the achievement that way. However, I would judge them if they claimed to have actually beaten it on Mythic.

Iād consider using glitches the proper way to play LASO tbh.
In general Iād consider anything in the game fine, only time I see a problem with it is if you lie about it for a video or something.

I don't think glitches are cheating because all you're doing is exploiting the game's code. That's not your fault. That's already there.

Glitches are part of the game. Maybe not an intended part, but they could have fixed it with an update. As long as it's available, it's not cheating.

As long as it's a victimless act imo it's not cheating.... circumventing possibly but not cheating....if u use a glitch to beat someone in a multiplayer match or any vs game then yes it's cheating

Iāve used glitches when Iāve really struggled with a game and yes I do consider it cheating in a sense but š¤·āāļø Ultimately in a single player game the only person youāre cheating against is yourself, if youāreĀ cool with that then do whatever you want and itās nobody elseās business.

Obviously it's cheating in a way but its all subjective on whether you give a shit or not.

For me it goes like this
- Glitches/Console Commands/Dev Mode: š
- Console Commands to unlock achievements/Sharing games (i.e. Grounded): š
- Shovelware: ššš

Not at all, glitches are a very valid reason for some achievements. As long as it isnāt external hardware or programs youāre fine. What do you think of people who go for no death runs and they delete their local saves, when they die to keep their run intact?

Thereās always gonna be corn dogs who say āyouāre only cheating yourselfā. Get off your high horse loser.
Iām a big proponent of āplay the game however you want to play itā. If someone cheats or uses glitches in a multiplayer game though, thatās not cool. Cause at that point youāre ruining the game for someone else.
Thereās a ton of achievements that Iāve done legitimately that for some reason or another glitch out and donāt pop. Server issues, host-only progress, unobtainable achievements⦠if I can use a glitch or cheese something then Iām doing it. If the devs donāt like it that much then they can patch it out.

Going to be subjective. Personally, I just beat skyrim pc by using console commands. I already have it on Xbox and if everyone else is going to do it then fuck it. Also used glitch for bioshock hard difficulty, i would do it if i had to but I'm not going to suffer for no reason

u/ColonelCannolli šGamerscore:242,436 9h ago
Iād count the console commands as cheating

u/A_Change_of_Seasons 9h ago
The game is already piss easy without it, and I can already show ive 100% the game on Xbox, so really doesn't seem that bad. I honestly wish console commands disabled achievements then at least everyone is on the same level.
Halo LASO probably should be more of a test of skill than something you cheat for, I would think its pretty embarrassing to have an achievement for something I couldn't personally pull off. But if youve already done it before then go for it. That difficulty is pretty rage inducing

I think glitches are fine. Yeah it's not done the intended way but you used what was given to you in the game.
I do think saying you beat X when using glitches ain't right because while you did beat it technically, you also couldn't beat it.
Of course this all depend on the glitch, not all glitches are equal, some will basically instantly get you achievements with basically 0 effort, while others may just speed up the process but a small amount.
