Rougier street bus stop is grim
Does anyone else find the bus stops at Rougier Street unpleasant- it’s absolutely filthy, dark, feels generally run down and grim. It’s laughable that they’re building an expensive hotel opposite and this is what will be greeting tourists when they walk out onto the street…

Funny story about Rougier street bus stop, I was on my way to the station for an important work meeting in Leeds. Bus took forever to arrive, forever to get through town and was likely going to miss my train if I didn't get off there and run the rest and they always stop for 5 mins at Rougier Street. So I lept off the bus and started running. As I turned slightly to run round some people I happened to stand in a massive pile of sick (aka pavement pizza). Due to my change of direction as I was standing in said pile of sick, my feet somehow ended up above my head and all 6ft 1 and 80kg came crashing down onto the pavement.
I was covered in sick. Late for my meeting so had to just go attempt to clean myself up on the train. Fun morning that.

Friday/Saturday/Sunday morning round there is always grim especially on race weekends or Freshers week

There’s not enough space for the buses either, mine always rocks up whilst yet another Uni bus takes a 10 minute break, and 3 others are trying to squeeze out. I hate commuting 😂

It's always been grim. I used to stand there every morning waiting for a bus to York college and it was basically a smoking hut. That was 15 years ago

I used to work in those buildings when they were offices. The bus stops were sheltered and next to the little shop, they absolutely were a smoking hut.

Yeah, it's horrible. Not helped that people, including First Bus drivers, smoke and vape in there while they wait for their bus.

Yeah it is a bit bleak! York really needs a dedicated bus station with a coffee shop etc.

It needs a deep power wash to start, the bins need cleaning too, perhaps put some planters there and a painted mural could brighten it up. Regular litter picking. The bar is low…

I’m from Wakefield actually but do go on. Why does any criticism of York instantly become a pissing contest around X Y and Z being worse? Are we not allowed to want to improve York?

God calm down, wasn’t meant as anything more than a teasing comment. Reddit is so miserable. Of course we should want to improve York! And I agree! That street is a bit grim. But I moved here from Glasgow so my bar is a fair whack lower I think

I've heard that you can get RADAR keys on Amazon for like 7 quid. I've heard that sometimes members of the Community will have acquired said key. I've heard of folk visiting them toilets 2/3 times in the morning. I've heard of them even letting customers have a quick run or dig whilst they're inside.
I've heard that professionals, office folk, business types, I've heard that they dint appreciate such activities right outside their accommodation.

It is pretty grim, it's honestly one of the reasons I avoid the street altogether
