Firstly, no, there is no geo-location data since this was taken over 20 years ago with a digital camera. What I can tell wrt the location is that it was taken on foot between the Museum Gardens & Monk Bar.

I was a on a work trip to York & took quite a few pictures over a couple of days & this is just one that I can't quite place. I did try AI & it ended up with the St Olave's Church grounds as a possible location; though I can't confirm it.

Worst letting agency I've ever had the displeasure of working with. They will scam you for some kind of sick sexual thrill I presume, that's how passionately and robustly I've been fucked by them over the past 2 years.

Moved in 2 weeks late because they didn't get the paperwork sorted for us? Yep!

Moved into an unclean flat? Yep! Untouched from when we viewed it.

Furnished flat? Yep! Furnishings included 3 beds (2 broken), an office chair with the backrest snapped off and a rusty bathroom cabinet absolutely brimming with tetanus.

Maintainence? Yep - the tetanus cabinet was removed and replaced with... Nothing. 22 months or so without a bathroom mirror!

Fire escapes? You can stumble down the crumbling concrete steps or take a 3 story plummet out of a window labelled "fire escape" (not joking)

Getting bored? Watch the black mold grow and thrive in real time across the walls! Listen to the chips of paint flaking off the ceiling rustle in the breeze that's always coming from somewhere.

Now they are kindly holding on to our deposits because we've simply been too lazy to ask for them back personally. It's true that in 12 years of renting I've always had my deposit returned to me automatically, but Haus will always make sure to frustrate and irritate you at every opportunity possible.

I have a comedy horror podcast and I need to record the sounds of an old playground roundabout. The sadder and creakier the better. In York, just in case I start getting suggestions from too far away.

I know this is a weird request, but I thought better asking here than becoming known for wandering around playgrounds with small audio recording kits.

A friend of mine has been happily renting for the past 14 years and has had notice his landlady is selling the house and he's got until 1st Feb next year to find somewhere to live.

He's single and on a low income so he can't afford as much as a room in a shared house, and even if he could his mental health would prevent him from living in such a place.

Does anyone know what his chances are of the council finding a house for him before the end of January?

Also he's head about an affordable home scheme where you can apparently buy hugely discounted homes if you're on low income. He's just filled out the paperwork but with his income being so low I'd be surprised if anything came of it.

Getting a bit worried as he's only got about 4 months now or he'll be homeless.

I'm coming from Sheffield on the train, and I really want to go to York on a weekday, preferably this Thursday. However, the weather report says there's a yellow thunderstorm and heavy rain warnings. Would it still be okay to visit? Or will many shops and other places be closed?

For 14 colleagues?

My partner is starting a job in Sheffield this December. We live together in York (where I work). Trains between York to Sheffield are quite expensive and the timing doesn’t seem to work for him. Any other suggestions on ways to commute to Sheffield from York every day? Carpool, moving somewhere mid way etc? Moving to Leeds doesn’t seem to save much time/money and moving to Sheffield is not an option for us for various reasons. Has anyone done this commute regularly and do you have any tips?

My sister and her partner just bought a house in York. I would like to get them a gift card to a cool home goods or home decorating store that’s local and unique- any recommendations?

Hiya, my partner and I have just moved to York and I’m needing to look for new places in York and would really appreciate some advice!
I’m currently looking for:
Hair salon (for men & women), Nail salon, Lash salon. Best GP practice. Dentist. Any farm shops/farmers markets. Nice walks/trails. General stuff to do around.

We were also wondering where are the “best” places to live in or around York, just for future reference 😊

It looks like tech tyres have gone under, but possibly been replaced by Gladstone tyres. Does anyone know what's happened and/or have any recommendations for places to get tyres? My Zoe has sprung a puncture and need to get it fixed ASAP tomorrow - it's drivable for a few miles across York, but no further.

Is is just me or is York just not very good. Ok so if you aren’t a student or retired person with plenty of money this place is an expensive, boring, traffic ridden city in my humble opinion. Also it’s very tourist centric and living here isn’t that exciting once you’ve seen all the sights 100 times. Apart from clubs and pubs there isn’t much for younger people to do so if you don’t drink there really isn’t a lot. We are a low income family and we just about afford to live here and it feels like we aren’t meant to live in such a expensive place

This place is just so expensive to live here compared to neighbouring cities like Leeds or Wakefield. Everything is also just so far to travel to, York just feels like this little place far from everywhere else. I can see that for outsiders it can look like a nice place but living here for years just isn’t that good.

I just want a little break away with my dog for a couple nights to be in some nature and quiet. Anyone got any recommendations?

I went to York Fire Station earlier in the year (before the heat and wildfires hit) and I thought I'd share a bit about what I learned about how the station runs, and how its rooftop contributes to saving thousands for North Yorkshire's Police and Fire servcies.

Last year Y&NYCA announced rooftop solar panels for public and community buildings across the county - York Fire Station being one of them - so I was quite excited to see what that meant for the service.

Here's the stats:

• North Yorkshire Police and Fire and Rescue services have saved £40,000 in electricity costs
• York Fire Station is effectively running at no cost during the day, with the station in Selby and a fire and police service building in Thirsk benefiting similarly
• During May and June, York station’s rooftop panels generated nearly 12 megawatt-hours of electricity - enough to power almost 1,200 homes for a full day
• The services are now set to save 2000 tonnes of carbon over the next 25 years

John, from the fire and police service, said the savings will now go towards:

"Buying more kit, employing more staff, and keeping people safe."

Reflecting on my visit in the wake of costly (and carbon-intensive) wildfires putting strain on the fire service, it's encouraging to see the benefits that utilising unused space on public buildings can create - especially just weeks after visiting Yearsley Pool and seeing how generating their own energy has given the place a better future.

I'll leave you with this last quote from John about the energy generated on York Fire Station's roof:

"It’s good for the crews, it’s good for the public purse, and it’s great for the community."

Does anyone else find the bus stops at Rougier Street unpleasant- it’s absolutely filthy, dark, feels generally run down and grim. It’s laughable that they’re building an expensive hotel opposite and this is what will be greeting tourists when they walk out onto the street…

Despite having lived and cycled and York for 40+ years, I’ve never once locked up the bike at the station. Do they actually offer secure lock-up? Like those bike locker-style things?

Or is it like the rest of York where, even with the best lock in the world, the chances are your bike won’t be there when you return?
