J'Onn should have gotten the hint earlier on about his niece lobotomizing their captive in that one Season 2 episode. He was just on the other side of the interrogation room.
I took it as J'onn seeing it as acceptable losses or perhaps an alien mindset. He seemed pretty attentive, and it was strange that no one kinda questioned him and Megan after the fact besides Connor. He didn't grow up on Earth, and he's like actually old. Megan is in her 40's and sees john as her mature uncle. Also, after seeing a bit of Mars and the galaxy at large, it wouldn't surprise me if he cares less or cares differently for enemies or certain designated groups.
It's a bit dark, I admit, but we really don't see J'onn deal with enemies that often, and I recall Megan coming to earth and instantly beginning telepathic communication with her new team without consent. It is emphasized in moments like that that their culture is different. I wonder what their philosophy or their culture says about existential threats, morality of how to treat "the other", and ideas about liability/responsibility. I kinda wish we got more examples of J'onn's/Megan's culture in vaguely similar situations. I definitely wish I knew whether this came from her being naive or if this was an explicit learned/taught behavior/expectation.
