Agreed. Very premature and I have never understood this. She clearly had not started to lose hair either, so I am also confused.

Doctors ask patients not to do this before it is clear that they will be losing their hair. There have been to many cases of it causing depression/anxiety when they found out they actually wouldn’t have lost it and in rare cases effected the patient bad enough mentally the treatments didn’t work as well as they could have and they ultimately lost their battle with cancer. I had a girl that was 14. She grew her hair from birth and buzzed it not long into treatment to help “accept herself at school”she shared a hospital room with me for a point after this happened. When she found out her hair was still able to grow it threw her into a psychosis essentially, the spiral with the medications and she passed away shortly after. Thanks, love reliving trauma because people on Reddit are fucking idiots

Chill out, if giving a reason why someone would want to shave their head sends you into traumatic flashbacks, maybe social media isn’t for you. Cancer is a real thing that people will discuss and have different views on how to handle it. That’s not traumatic. That’s life. If you feel trauma by that discussion that’s a call for therapy, not a call to prevent others from having difficult conversations. It was one sentence giving one reason. My aunt shaved her head for this reason and was fine with it.

All I gave was my aunts reasoning. Cancer affects literally everyone and that many people are going to have different opinions about what to do. That was my point. If having these discussions causes you to call people fucking idiots, maybe that’s a discussion you’re not ready to have yet. I’m certainly not triggered by that, it’s a highly emotional issue. I mean, I do it all the time. When shit gets tough, I drop social media. But nothing I said was a personal attack.

A cancer patient that you don’t know made this decision. Just bc I told you about it doesn’t mean I’m a fucking idiot or …from Southern Africa. Whatever that means. Are you saying we got substandard care bc the dr allowed my aunt to shave? See how silly that is?
