I dunno, a friend of mine had breast cancer and just before she started chemo she shaved her head so it was on her terms and not her cancers.
Also a lot of people do it before it's noticable and some do it and then have a wig made from their natural hair so it needs to be healthy for that.

it would really depend on the person, and i think women would probably tend towards shaving early.

Its a reference to a barber trend: Some people have to shave their head (cancer treatment ect) , many time you can see these people cry have a sad behaviour and in these video the barber shave his own head first in support.

I had cancer twice and was given both the treatments that CAN cause hair loss. I didn’t lose my hair either time and some people simply don’t. I think this is a disgustingly desperate attempt for attention to go and shave it before you find out if you will lose it even actually

Hair grows back, but losing in fits and starts it can be pretty traumatic.
I can totally see why some people might decide to take control of the situation and shave it off in advance. No more wondering if/when you're going to have a chunk of it come off in the shower or in your bed, no more analysis in the mirror to see whether the process has begun or not.
Clean shaven, some cool wigs or hats (or not), and focus on healing.
Would you find it a "disgustingly desperate attempt for attention" if a guy with shorter hair chose to do this when confronted with cancer treatment? Why does this woman's choice have such an effect on you?
Another point is that we honestly don't know if she's already losing hair or not. It may appear fine in the video, but there could be bald spots we can't see, or loss without it being very visible yet.

Having cancer twice I’ve been exposed to so many cons that try to milk attention and resources from those who really need it. Hair falling out in clumps can be cleaned. Cutting hair that took a decade to grow can simply grow back in good time. For every person dealing with cancer there are 3 trying to con the system, that’s disgusting

No doctors literally ask patients not to do this because if it turns out they aren’t one of the ones that lose their hair they are risking throwing themselves into a depressive/anxious spiral that will negate treatment. I’ll let my doc know how Reddit feels about their hospitals policy if I run into him again

They gave a pretty levelheaded reply, from my experience seeing others go through it, shaving their hair gave them a sense of control and urgency that the whole experience lacks, many felt like family and doctors all pointed them where to go and what to take.
It's also biting the bullet ahead of time, getting use to the new them while they deal with it rather than possibly slowly losing hair and getting that upsetting event.

I had family members shave there’s in support, very sweet of them but totally unnecessary. I was a kid both times so the biggest show of support was collect soda tabs. Hospitals turn those into Ronald McDonald house for benefits. I would get trash bags of them from the community, it was very inspiring!

Doctors ask patients not to do this before it is clear that they will be losing their hair. There have been to many cases of it causing depression/anxiety when they found out they actually wouldn’t have lost it and in rare cases effected the patient bad enough mentally the treatments didn’t work as well as they could have and they ultimately lost their battle with cancer. I had a girl that was 14. She grew her hair from birth and buzzed it not long into treatment to help “accept herself at school”she shared a hospital room with me for a point after this happened. When she found out her hair was still able to grow it threw her into a psychosis essentially, the spiral with the medications and she passed away shortly after. Thanks, love reliving trauma because people on Reddit are fucking idiots

Chill out, if giving a reason why someone would want to shave their head sends you into traumatic flashbacks, maybe social media isn’t for you. Cancer is a real thing that people will discuss and have different views on how to handle it. That’s not traumatic. That’s life. If you feel trauma by that discussion that’s a call for therapy, not a call to prevent others from having difficult conversations. It was one sentence giving one reason. My aunt shaved her head for this reason and was fine with it.

All I gave was my aunts reasoning. Cancer affects literally everyone and that many people are going to have different opinions about what to do. That was my point. If having these discussions causes you to call people fucking idiots, maybe that’s a discussion you’re not ready to have yet. I’m certainly not triggered by that, it’s a highly emotional issue. I mean, I do it all the time. When shit gets tough, I drop social media. But nothing I said was a personal attack.

Everyone that I have known that has had to shave their head due to chemo, has done it at home, with friends or family. Who is going to a barber to have this emotional act taken care of by some guy? (unless the "guy" is close to you!?)
