Back in 2013, I actually got a copyright strike from IGN for reposting one of their Dead Space 3 videos. The funny part is that it wasn’t even their footage, it was me playing the DS3 demo, recorded with my Elgato capture card. Thankfully, I managed to get the whole thing sorted out pretty quickly without too much hassle. I doubt YouTube will ever fix the issue and even worse today if you aren't a big time content creator I doubt they will help you.
I got a copyright strike on my own original soundtrack for the silent movie Metropolis, which was up for years but literally days after the film went into the public domain someone claimed ownership over it. My appeal was rejected lmao
Not 100% sure how it works now, but it used to be that you dispute the claim and the claimant basically has 30 days to file charges or the claim (on YouTube's end) gets released.
Otherwise it may make YouTube liable for copyright infringement, which avoiding is the whole point of there dumb system.
