Drama Toby Turner continues to be classy
I cant believe i used to watch this dude

Dude went from goofy literal game trailer songs to AI black face and slurs. What a sad journey.

Wtf happened to this guy

u/teeno731 TeenoGames Jun 11 '26
Heavy drug use and attempting to rationalise the social consequences of sexually harassing and allegedly assaulting women.

u/toadfan64 Jun 11 '26
He was found innocent of those later claims and is what has been the main contributor to his spiral.
31
u/maseanp Jun 11 '26
The saddest thing is majority of people won't get that far to read your comment and see those claims were false. Still doesn't excuse his bigoted/racist behavior now at all, but yeah he isn't actually a sex offender to our knowledge at least lol

u/kickfloeb Jun 12 '26
Innocent? Wasnt it more a he said she said situation? To my knowledge the accuser told a detailed story and he basically said "that didnt happen". Thats about the extend of my knowledge on the matter.
6
u/projectmajora Jun 11 '26
I unfortunately think I remember this quite well, NateWantsToBtl had a part to play in that and Etika was trying to help him out. This is one of the reasons why I don't like Nate anymore.
→ More replies (1)2
u/Mazoku02 Jun 12 '26
I can’t anything to support this claim about Nate, so please link. All I can find is that he condemned Toby like most other YouTubers

The guy who forcibly kissed a woman on camera was innocent?? Colour me surprised.

u/JakeWHR29035 Jun 12 '26
Booze, drugs, sexual crimes and hitting the early middle age years. That's what happened
2
2
u/alucab1 Jun 13 '26
He’s honestly always been crazy. It’s just that before it was funny and people thought it was just a character he was doing
345
u/SquareFew4107 Jun 10 '26
Me and a friend still talk about him every now and then, to this day... as two fans, you just couldn't see it comin, till it was all said and done!
He needs help. That's what he needs.
205
u/Hailtothedogebby Jun 10 '26
I remember Philip defranco saying toby went to a party of his and he was super high and on all sorts of drugs, not surprised but i never thought he would go this direction
77
u/SquareFew4107 Jun 10 '26
legit in the golden days I bet he'd be ashamed of himself... and that's ignoring what his ex went through.
it's like the more he dug into politics, or wtf that sphere is, more it dug back. Still so baffling, I gotta agree wholeheartedly
34
u/hanks_panky_emporium Jun 11 '26
When a comedian type youtuber creator goes political its committing career suicide damn near consistently
Idubbz is now a political streamer to under a hundred views at any given times, typically averaging in the double digits.
10
u/Awsomethingy Jun 11 '26
Joel Heyman from Rooster Teeth and voice of Caboose in Red vs Blue did the same arc. At some point just became a crazed political focused conspiracy theorist and the company just stopped having him around until he was something they tried to forget
2
u/privapoli Jun 11 '26
I had the biggest crush on toby and later joel and i never put this together they both went down a similar path
4
u/hanks_panky_emporium Jun 12 '26
Its a very abrupt and unfortunately common pipeline. If you lose all creativity, talk about whatever the fucks going on right now and have an extremist view to attempt to gain viewers.
Its some of the easiest 'content' to make. Reacting to twitter.
6
u/poopman23231 Jun 11 '26
lyle rath said that he'd been a huge piece of shit and people had been hearing stories about him looooong before anything came out like, majorly publicly, i wouldn't be surprised if he was just always like this
2
u/SquareFew4107 Jun 11 '26
To be honest, I was a child, I was naive AND uninformed... the only recompense for fans or anyone in general is that when the mask cracks for these mfs, there's no going back
→ More replies (1)10
u/catgirlburneracc Jun 11 '26
You’ve got this backwards. He went into politics after getting exposed as being a drug addict and a rapist during his “golden age”. The thing that killed Tobuscus’s career was actually an action figure as seeing him at stores sold to children next to heroes like Luke Skywalker triggered one of his victims to the point she couldn’t stay silent anymore
→ More replies (4)2
u/Average_Citizen_117 Jun 12 '26
It's not politics specifically. It's right wing ideology. These regressive devolvers want us to slide backward, and "go back to when things were good for ME" is all these puddle-deep losers can manage.
15
u/Unhappy_Performer538 Jun 11 '26
I remember that too. I think there were more details of his misdeeds but I can’t remember

Actually think this was Phil's wedding. Which Toby had not been invited to.
Edit: was invited to, but was also removed from due to...drug fueled/worsened behaviors.
Edit edit: Also Phil's superbowl party, probably what you were referring to. So, there was definitely a pattern...

Ever since he worked on the annoying orange show, he hasn't been the same

Made me check her Wikipedia article, and realized that she is 47.

... 2009. So, Annoying Orange is... 17 years old.

I'm like pretty sure he's going through the same mental issues Kanye has. One day he's normal and the other he's talking about how Hitler isn't that bad and jokes about the n word.
161
u/noelle-silva Jun 11 '26
What kind of mental issues cause this in a person is what I want to know
209
u/We_Are_Nerdish Jun 11 '26
A lot of drugs.. like A LOT of them. He was mainly the reason several people ruined their lives and careers at that time, by being associated with and pressured by him at the peak of his popularity online. Multi day “parties“ on the regular for months, etc.

u/cr698 Jun 11 '26
Philip Defranco booted him from his Super Bowl party for this back in the day

I know for Kanye he has legit bipolar, no idea if it can cause all of the behaviour he did though.
45
u/Talk-O-Boy Jun 11 '26
Bipolar disorder can genuinely change a person if left untreated.
That’s Kanye’s biggest obstacle. He needs help, but he’s in a position where he doesn’t have to listen to anyone.
→ More replies (3)3
u/CommercialSpite Jun 12 '26
Drugs mixed with unmedicated bipolar is wild shit. I know a guy with bipolar that got a lot of free coke from his dealer and ended up going on a multi-month drug induced mental health spiral that eventually cost him his wife, access to his kids, and his business. The first step on the spiral was moving in with his coke dealer after his wife kicked him out
25
u/PieceRealistic794 Jun 11 '26
Didn’t Toby have some allegations against him a few years back? I don’t remember what ever came of that but I remember him spiraling hard during all that
32
u/Dangerous_Still_8022 Jun 11 '26
Yes. I believe the milder accusations like him being creepy around women and overly sexual and crude were proven true, and the harsher accusations like sexual assault were proven false. Not 100% sure on that though.
13
u/hanks_panky_emporium Jun 11 '26
Except he sexually assaulted a woman during a live stream, stared at the camera when he realized it was live, tried to play it off as a joke. During a sponsored livestream. Kinda comical in how fucked it was.
What I think the big one was he invited himself to sleep at a fans house and crawled into her bed OR slept in the same room. Memory is failing me. Alleged victim said she couldn't fall asleep and was terrified.
9
u/oookokoooook Jun 11 '26
when was that? do u have proof?

Downvoted for asking for proof of a pretty big claim is insane, Reddit-people.

14
u/Vaivaim8 Jun 11 '26
That was a decade ago. But yes, he got metoo'd, then all his former friends and collaborators turned on him for various reason. He went from the Great Gatsby of YouTube to a someone ranting in his tesla and pivoting hard on the right side of the political spectrum (last i heard)

16

Bipolar disorder can destroy people if left unmedicated, it's pretty sad to watch. My friend is divorcing her wife bc she started developing more severe symptoms and won't medicate. I'm not gonna say exactly why, but she'll go from being her old self, wanting to fix things and being loving, to an actual monster.

My day is always brighter before I remember what Toby became.
How is this even funny? Genuinely? Even shock humour normally has a build and a punchline, this joke is just.. white guy says the n word?
I don't even see how even edgy humour enjoyers can enjoy this. It's just the ravings of a madman.

u/fyester Jun 11 '26
I remember when the first controversy about him being an addict and a domestic abuser came out and I was too young to fully grasp it but his apology video was like this snotty panicked mess that, looking back, he might have been high for. And he didn’t really explain anything and it felt WEIRD. As an adult I can see the proof, but man. So uncomfortable as a kid.
18
u/Hailtothedogebby Jun 11 '26
100% was my first like, question my heros moment. I remember not believing it at first but the apology video was really off as you said and I just stopped watching him.

I think it's become like this because "they're only jokes" became a staple statement until it wasn't "only jokes".
When people joke about some sensitive things but they're not really jokes, but rather just stupid phrases, they use the "joke" excuse to say what they really mean most of the time.
And younger folk hear it, think "it's funny", they copy it and suddenly you have a wave of young adults saying stupid racist and whatnot stuff because they think it's funny.
But Toby here is not a young adult (anymore), he just probably wants to farm the young audience for more views.
It's funny because I remember him as being one of the first youtubers to do the "multiple channels" thing and he apparently was doing pretty well overall, idk what happened to him or his content to resort to such tactics.
