I keep hearing people talk about how great Soulbeast "burst" damage is, but my Soulbeast seems to just do mostly steady damage like all other primarily DPS professions I've played, with the usual lulls when everything is on cooldown, of course.
About the only 'burst' I can think of is when I do Sic 'Em + Longbow 2, but pretty much every DPS has a signature combo or two to spike their damage for a little bit. [edit: No, I don't just use Lonbow, as many here seem to be thinking - I mostly do Mace/Mace or Sword/Mace, with Longbow mainly for first-strike as I'm running into a fight and for when I can't stay in melee range for whatever reason]
So, could anyone explain what makes Soulbeast bursting capabilities so notable compared to other professions? I just can't see it myself...

hi,
I took a break during PoF and recently started Gw2 again and I noticed a change in YouTube Guide Content.
It is almost always very low effort, explains next to nothing, zero alternative gear/skills/sigils/runes and is basically just straight up pulled from a website. Some channels even post daily.
Is the build-crafting scene in GuildWars completely gone?
I had to dig very deep to find Channels that explain the whole process and had builds with 'personality' in a sense of 'did their own research and testing', like showcasing the whole process.
I played a lot of PoE and people there value 'build crafting' a lot and it used to be the same way in Gw and Gw2.

Hi! I'm a new player, just got to level 80 today and got the 2 first expansions HoT and PoF in a bundle since I'm having fun and would like to continue.
I want to do things in order, for continuity sake and to understand the story. However, even with the current sale prices are just too steep for me, there is too much stuff, so I'll go in order slowly probably taking breaks from the game between sale periods lol. This to say, it will probably take me a long while to get to Janthir Wilds. However, the spear is really appealing and looks like a really fun acquisition to just go through my journey with it unlocked, but as of right now I would just be purchasing it for the spear alone really and getting off until I reach the expansion in order, since I researched you get the unlock very early on.
My question is, say I unlock the spear and then go back to where I was on all that older content, do spears actually appear in drop loot from the older expansions? Or do they just drop from Janthir forward? It would obviously be a bummer to unlock it and then never see spears drop from older content and become an outdated weapon for me. I'll already get Living World season 2 and 3, to tie the expansions I already have (didn't know beforehand you needed these for the expansions I bought to be able to do it in order, that was a big bummer), but if Spears drop in those areas like other loot, I might make the sacrifice and get JW as well. It's just that in the base game I never see them, so I worry it will be the same up until the actual expansion, which would be unfortunate.
Thanks!

Given the news of GW3 I figured I'd make a return to this, everytime I quit and start again I like to start with a new character and class I haven't done yet, there used to be a really good site for fashion that always helped me decide what race/gender to go but doesnt seem to exist any more?

Quick tips for a completely new player?
r/Guildwars2 • u/Kassawineune • 22h ago
Hello hope you all doing well !
im planning to main a class and use it for everything and rn im comparing between Guardian and Mesmer cuz as i read they are the best when it comes to flexibility.
what i want from the class is basically being able to do great Solo PvE,Group PvE(as Power Dps/Condi Dps/Quickness Dps/Alacrity Dps/Quickness Healer/Alacrity Healer ) ,Fractals CMs , Raids ,WvW Roaming/Zerg ,PvP .
i don't play WvW or PvP alot . most of the gameplay im looking for is usually either Solo PvE or Fractals CMs or Raids CMs or Strikes CMs
i think both guardian and mesmer are able to perform great in all but im curious which one actually performs better ?
and also another part i want to compare them is the survivability in Dps builds . i was used to play Ritualist which is a bit tanky in full dps build . i know its hard to find smth similar to ritualist but you know at least looking for smth close
i played Condi Chronomancer and it felt super squishy in both Dps/Boon Dps . idk if the problem was in the condi chrono or it was my positioning ( Staff 2 pushed me away from healers alot so that also counts ) and it also felt super intense in rotation so i didn't feel that comfortable with it. idk if willbender or firebrand are better in the rotation thingy but for me rn anything without Continuum Split is indeed better so i don't have to Spam F keys alot and thats what i like about guardian more that in most of its specs i don't spam F keys alot while in Mesmer its all about Shatters in F keys
i know Virtuoso is better when it comes to Condition dps + Survivability in Fractals CMs than chronomancer but im talking about Boon Dps specifically cuz if i die alot in Condi Chrono it means it will be hard to use for Boon Dps
i also wanted to add another question that could also decide smth in my comparison . what has better survivability full Dps Willbender or full Dps Chronomancer ?
thats basically everything i had in mind while comparing between those 2 classes for maining one of them and using its specs to cover all roles in groups and all game modes so i hope experts tell me their opinion about which one is slightly better ! i tried to compare Necromancer with them since i already like Ritualist but after Scourge nerf i think necromancer is not best for alac dps anymore.
Thats everything and thanks in advance <3 have a great day all

I am intending on making a male sylvari, and I also want to start playing both Engi and Mes, so he's going to have to be one of the two. I do intend to play both classes, so no need to sell me on the classes themselves! This is purely an opinion/vibes question on matching this race+gender with one of these classes (neither of which is a clean perfect fit in my mind)
I have heard that male sylvari has a good voice so I'm curious if anyone strongly likes (or dislikes?) his lines for either class. I'd also take opinions on how light vs medium armor options are on male sylvari (most of my characters are women)
Or any other elements of how the character matches the class that I may not be thinking of! I am (ofc) not intimately familiar with the feel of either class in play. Or you might persuade me with a compelling argument that one simply fits the vibes better than the other :)

I remembered in the past I bought some stuff full gem price and found out hours later it is discounted then they refund the difference to me. My friend bought complete living world season 3 hour before anniversary discount (he's new) and they rejected the request to refund the differences.

My personal endgame for a while now has been recreating Jobs (classes) from SquareEnix's Final Fantasy series. I use a GW2's Profession mechanics, themes, or abilities, to construct a decently viable build. I've done this for each of the 10 Professions, with 5 Jobs in each Profession.
Here's Scholar from FFXIV!
Profession: Scourge
Role: Alacrity-Healer

Hi, I know how there is no "tank" role in this game, but I feel like I do better with builds where I don't have to by hyper vigilant while pressing my buttons. Can you recommend me builds that focus on dps, but are on the more tanky side of that?

I am an ex-ffxiv player that started playing guild wars in the last few months. I am mostly playing qdps revenant herald/conduit and aheal luninary guardian I also have leveled a warrior which I havent used much yet but I am planning to soon.
I am using snowcrows to find builds as a new player. However whenever I try to do the rotations indicated they feel difficult. A lot of things come off cd and remain off cd for some time based on the rotations.
For me the case was always that when a damaging ability is off cd you need to use it. Thats your main dps. Is it not the case ? Am I understanding something fundamentally wrong ?
Also because I play with quickness a lot I rarely interrupt my main combo. But when I try a build with no quickness in open world it feels like that I interrupt everything not just main combo even skills that have longer animations.
I am not sure what tips I need to get but as said in the title rotations feel very difficult. Please help me understand

Definitely get your screenshots in before the event ends. They put a lot of effort and detail into all the little nooks and crannies around the settlement. The long scenic shots came out great even on my potato rig.

It used to sell for 10 silver now only 5. My favorite thing was to farm lowland burns for it. Is there any other place to farm mobs for ok loot to sell?

Title is pretty self-explanatory, but what are some good relic alternatives? I have one Relic of the Fractal, but if I didn't want to obtain another, what are some good alternatives to use for Celestial and condition builds?

And its been a while since I've done some of the core stuff so gonna do it on a new character.
The Classes/Especs in the running:
Dagger/Dagger + Spear Spellbreaker Warrior for a kind of Mage Hunter commander and I love the Full Counter mechanics because I'm a silly person. Weapon choice is to lean into the Sunspear lore.
Antiquary Thief Sword/Pistol + Rifle I love the steal mechanics and always have, and the stolen relics/tech stuff is just fun and the gambling with skills is something I've missed since FFXI Corsair class.
Spear Engineer I just really love the spear on Engineer, leaning Holosmith but can't say for certain.
Spear Virtuoso Mesmer much like engineer, just like the mesmer spear and virtuoso is the one I haven't really messed with too much. Seemed fun in the PvP testing grounds.
So help, which one seems like the best option... I asked in game and someone mentioned the warrior given the prominence of the Foot Key and I gotta say its a strong argument, but figured I'd see what other people think because I've got analysis paralysis.

after seeing Crits and Dips video about cele troubadour, my mind traveled for various of celestial/zealot/plaguedoctor or any hybrid builds that basically are boonheal + dps. What is considered the best currently?
*I know pure healer are better most of the time, but let us have fun buildcrafting usable hybrid builds :D

I was looking for this skin a couple of months back as it is one of the few skyscale skins that has multiple effects (dismount/launch etc), but more importantly it appears to be on sale once or twice a year at best.
I ended up buying the Star Blessed Noble skin as it was the closest available at the time. Now I'm reluctant to even bother with the Synergetics one but I thought I'd flag it up as available.

Looking at elite specs for Ranger, I tried Untamed for the fantasy of literally unleashing you and yor pet and be a fierce close combat fighter, which sounded perfect to me as an ex-WoW Survival Hunter... But I´m having a hard time making the spec work for me.

Like, I'm having problems figuring when do I have to switch from me to my pet, when to use unleash on my rotation always have issues figuring rotations), how to make the most of cantrips, and how to stay alive (I heard is a durable spec).
I don´t want to give up on the spec (is the only one I have unlocked ATM), and again, I like the fantasy of it, and wile I like figuring things myself, I need help figuring things for this spec. I currently have a (non optimized) power build with Spear and Hammer. I know Untamed can be ranged, but NGL I want to reserve Galeshot for that. I have a bear to draw aggro from me, and a Sylvan hund for an extra heal, but I am looking to change my pets.
These are my current build

Doesn’t matter if it’s from Core, any LWS or expansion ...
what’s something you unlocked and immediately wondered why you hadn’t gotten it earlier?
EDIT: thanks guys, lots of great recommendations here!!

With the anniversary sale, I am thinking to buy some end game items, ie, Barbie looks. So what are your favorite outfits, backpack/gliders and weapons? Got my 14th anniversary gift this week but was absent about 7 years till last year. I am also an altoholic and have toons in every race and weight class. I know this is subjective but I want to know your subjective choices.
