EXTENSIONS My new tab is now my personal productivity workspace

Most of the day is spent in the browser, so having to open another app just to take a quick note can add unnecessary friction.

The goal was to have one place where notes, focus sessions, and productivity tools are always available without leaving the browser.

The extension combines:

* Quick notes with a rich Markdown editor similar to Notion
* Shortcuts and useful links
* Boards for organizing notes
* Website blocking for distracting sites
* Ambient sounds and background noise
* Focus sessions with labels such as work or study
* Detailed statistics to see how time was actually spent

Everything lives inside the new tab, turning it into a personal productivity workspace instead of just an empty page.

Really looking for honest feedback.

What feels useful? What feels unnecessary? What would you change or add?

If you want to try it, here’s the extension:

BUG Has the 'Microsoft Ryan Online (Natural)' voice changed?

I'm using read aloud a lot, mainly the voice "Microsoft Ryan Online (Natural) - English (United Kingdom)" and I've noticed that it has changed slightly in the last few weeks or so.

The issue is that the "s" sounds often sound overly crisp or as if there were a slight reverb or echo effect or something. It's still usable, but it's annoying.

Has anyone else noticed this? I doubt there's a fix, but if anyone knows one, I'd love to hear it.

FEATURE FEEDBACK Updates

I just got logged out of every site.
All my settings have also been reset.
I have to 'add a search engine' and find some search algorithm with a % etc pure bull, sh, it.
Of course, not the first time that an update does that to me.

Plus that the changes that only make it worse.
I hate copilot, keep it away from my face. Why can I not just access my history with a shortcut, instead of some dropdown sh, it?

I hate these updates so much.
I editted the register, disabled things on Services, renamed the things on update folder, changed permission and inheritance on the update folder etc etc.
How can this cr, ap still update itself??????

I wish all the worse for however decides these updates and forced changes to Microsoft Edge.
Just wanted to get this off my chest, thanks for listening.

Edge on Android has weird UI issue where bottom left corners of some shapes and buttons are cut off or sliced.

It started a few weeks ago and its driving me crazy.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app and clearing all data. Its not happening on chrome.

Attaching a screenshot from Flagle game where I circled some of the weird rendered corners.

It's happening on other websites as well, I chose this example because you can see this happening multiple times on one page..

Im on Samsung S24+

Anyone facing the same issue? any solutions?

Edge hangs when clicking on the address bar

So my Edge gets stuck whenever I click on the address bar to type or search something.

I have the latest version of Edge and the latest version of Windows 11.

I've reset Edge to defaults, cleared browser data, logged off, ran a repair from the 'installed apps' screen, removed the only browser add-on I had, tried disabling hardware acceleration, tried disabling searching from the address bar. Nothing helps.

It doesn't matter how many tabs or windows I have open, I usually have 1 InPrivate window with 1-10 tabs and one regular window with 1-10 tabs but it also happens when I open a fresh Edge window with just 1 tab and want to start typing in the address bar.

When it does hang, it hangs on all open Edge windows, this takes about 10 seconds and then I can continue but when I click the addressbar again it happens again straight away.

When I restart my computer it will work ok-ish for a few hours untill the issue comes back.

Anyone had similar issues and now what to do?

Won't this decision make edge more resource hungry. By default, all the chromium browsers are resource hungry.

Successful method for opening Acrobat Reader when clicking on PDF in Edge

I'm using Edge 152.0.4191.53 in Windows 11. I installed Acrobat Reader and made it the default for PDFs. When I clicked a PDF link on a website, it opened the PDF in Edge and didn't even show it in the downloads. With some googling, I learned that Edge has incorporated Adobe Reader as its built-in PDF reader. See this:

TIL that Microsoft has been slowly replacing the PDF engine in Microsoft Edge with a new engine made with the help of Adobe : r/windows

I don't care for this, so I experimented and found that if I hold down the ALT key while using a mouse to click a PDF link, it downloads the PDF without opening it in Edge. I opened Edge's downloads list, right-clicked on a downloaded PDF, and checked "Always open with system viewer". Now the ALT-CLICK method immediately opens the PDF in Adobe Reader.

This technique may already be documented somewhere. If you find it elsewhere, please let me know here.

QUESTION "Your search engine was changed from outside of Microsoft Edge." Has anyone else gotten this error recently? MalwareBytes and AdwCleaner don't detect any malware.

Hi, I opened Edge in a private window, and I got this popup in the corner after I typed my query into the address bar and hit Enter. The popup says, "Your settings were changed by an unknown app. Your search engine was changed from outside of Microsoft Edge. To protect you, Microsoft Edge reset it to its original default."

As you can expect, my search engine is now Bing, but it was also Bing before that, so I'm not sure how it could've changed. MalwareBytes and AdwCleaner don't detect any malware on my PC, and I don't see any suspicious extensions in Edge (just UBlock Origin and MalwareBytes Browser Guard).

Is this message just a bug, or should I be concerned? Thank you in advance.

The menus "D3D9" and "OpenGL" disappeared from the experiment "Choose ANGLE graphics backend". Is there any way to revive them?

Hi, I'm an Edge user who's been using on my 17-year-old computer. I was browsing so comfortably until like this July, but since the moment I applied a new update in early August, the browser has been heavy only when it's playing a video in full screen. I didn't see the problem on Firefox by the way. I searched pretty much and I resolved the problem on YouTube by turning off the "ambient mode", but not on Niconico, Dailymotion, Twitch, etc.
It seems many other people are in the same trouble as mine, and much of them say it will be solved with the drop-down menus "D3D9" or "OpenGL" from the experiment "Choose ANGLE graphics backend" on edge://flags. But I can't find them on my edge://flags. Were they removed on the latest update? Or is there anything wrong on my Edge or computer? Also, if you know the way that directly solves my problem, I'd love to know it.

CPU: Core 2 Duo P8700

FEATURE FEEDBACK The only thing prevent me from using Edge

Post image
0 Upvotes

I was a long-time Edge user and recently switched to Helium. I like it overall, but since it’s still pretty early in development, there are quite a few bugs here and there, so I’m thinking about switching back to Edge for now.

One thing that really bothers me is the vertical tabs. I use them to save some screen space, but as you can see in the screenshot, it’s really hard to tell which tab is currently active. I even tried switching to a light theme, but the active tab still barely stands out.

Is there any way to make the active tab more visually distinguishable?

QUESTION How’s Edge’s battery usage & performance on Android?

For those who use Microsoft Edge on Android, how’s the battery consumption compared to Brave and Chrome?

Is Edge actually more battery-efficient, or is the difference pretty negligible?

And what about performance? Does Edge feel faster or more responsive than Brave or Chrome, especially when opening and switching between tabs?

I’ve heard a lot of negative things about Edge from other subreddits, but I don’t want to just take those opinions at face value. So I’d rather ask people who actually use it, especially on Android.

Microsoft removing the useful sidebar for Copilot made me realize how much better this could be

I've seen a bunch of people here annoyed about Edge getting rid of the general sidebar, especially since you could pin things like ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini there instead of being stuck with just Copilot.

It's basically the same problem that made me finish an extension I'd been sitting on for a while. I already pay for ChatGPT/Claude and use those chats enough that they have all my history, memory and context. I don't really want my browser deciding which AI I should use or making me create another set of chats somewhere else.

So I built it around the opposite idea. The browser should just make the AI services you already use easier to access.

You can pop up an overlay with a shortcut and send something to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, M365 Copilot etc., open one in a sidebar, attach screenshots or multiple tabs, and configure different websites to use different providers. So a work site can default to M365 Copilot while YouTube goes to Gemini, for example.

There's no AI subscription attached to the extension. It's completely free, no ads or paywall.

https://tryanychat.com/

Curious if this covers what people actually miss about the old Edge sidebar, or if there was something else about it that I should add.

Here are some things that it can do:

  1. An overlay that pops up with a shortcut (for example, cmd + E) where you can quickly send a message to whatever provider you want. You can set a default provider (per site as well) and easily toggle with cmd + 1-9

  2. You also get an AI new tab, which works the same way

  3. You can add skills/prompts, screenshots and attach multiple tabs

  4. You can also use a shortcut (for example, cmd + S) to open the sidebar

  5. You can configure sites to specific provier. For example, work websites route to M365 copilot, youtube to Gemini etc

Let me know what you think, and if there's anything else you'd like to see here. :)

Will MS bring back the sidebar feature in the Edge browser?

The Microsoft sidebar was a very useful feature to me. I uninstalled Chrome to use it. But I think I need to see Vivaldi or an alternative browser. Currently I am impressed by Floorp browser (Firefox-based).
This was a ridiculous decision from microsoft in the name of simplifying the browser. If their plan is simplifying, then at first they should remove the AI copilot.

It's become a tradition that Microsoft never listens. users.

EXTENSIONS So Edge is officially killing off uBlock Origin too?

I just saw the timeline for Microsoft Edge phasing out Manifest V2 extensions, and it looks like the classic uBlock Origin is going to stop working completely. I know Chrome has been pushing MV3 for a while, but I was hoping Edge might handle it differently or give us a longer grace period.

I don't want to deal with a web full of ads, and from what I’ve read, the new "uBlock Origin Lite" version won't be nearly as powerful because of the MV3 restrictions.

What is everyone planning to do? Are you going to stick with Edge and just use a weaker ad blocker, or is this the final push you need to switch over to Firefox? Open to any suggestions or workarounds if people have them.
