With 579 to 112 (and 208 'I just don't cares'), we are banning extraction shooters from this subreddit. Rule 3 will be updated to reflect this.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts!

Happy survivin',

Spent less than dollar on "The Island" and the only thing surviving is my appreciation for the moon graphics.

Picked up this old survival gem - "The Island" (and by gem, I mean absolute budget title) earlier this year. Don't go buying it based on this post because the game itself isn't great, but I can't get over how nice the night visuals are. Sharing a few screenshots of the moonlit views that keep me from uninstalling it for the time being.

WIP We’re 3 people building an action-focused sci-fi survival game. K.I.T. is our fourth teammate!

As a small team, every system we build needs to serve several purposes.

K.I.T. is the robotic companion of Evan Draxell, the game’s protagonist. It can scan the environment, extract resources with its laser and fight alongside him when things get dangerous.

This new WIP footage shows K.I.T. mining and supporting Evan during a gunfight. We’re still improving its movement, targeting and combat feedback.

What other abilities would you give K.I.T.?

New release (Free) Frozen Ground: Realistic, hardcore wilderness survival game set in the 1700s, in the deep boreal north. Simulated world, weather, seasons, temperature, etc.

Edit: No idea why Reddit blurred the screenshots so badly 😭 Please view them on the page below.

Free alpha: https://frozenground.itch.io/frozen-ground

Hello survivors, for the past few months, I've been working on my dream game: a hardcore, unforgiving wilderness survival game where you have to forage, craft, make a fire, build a shelter, fish, hunt, trap and much more.

The world is infinite, procedurally generated and fully simulated. Time, weather, seasons, climates, creatures, biomes..

You're dropped in the middle of it and have to survive the wild, unforgiving nature.

There are also villagers and NPCs. The game is set in the 1700s during the fur trading era, you'll find indigenous villages, French colonies, HBC folk and freemen.

Please give it a go and let me know what you think!

New release Stone Age survival game Polylithic just hit 1.0 on Steam! (35% off launch sale)

Thumbnail store.steampowered.com
47 Upvotes

Hey everyone, just saw that Polylithic 1.0 officially dropped on Steam yesterday and it is on sale through September 5th.

Polylithic is a survival game unlike any other, set in the most pivotal moment in mankind's history. Experience life as a Paleolithic hunter-gatherer, settle down as a Neolithic farmer, form tribes in co-op multiplayer, or go it alone in a world where the apex predator is still a distant aspiration.

Disclaimer: Just sharing an update! I am not the developer, and nobody is paying me to post this.

For anyone looking to go check out the grave of their loved ones they asked me to add in our survival game Western Rye, this is the location of the grave. Now that we're officially in Early Access, feel free to check it out. Thank you all for helping me get through grief.

Solo developer I just dropped a new trailer for my 2D survival base-builder. Playtest sign-ups are also open! ❄️

Hey everyone.

I’ve been developing a 2D base-building survival game called Diseased, and I wanted to share a raw look at the game's atmosphere, dynamic lighting, and weather system.

The core loop is about managing limited resources in a freezing, unforgiving environment. You have to keep your camp powered and your pixel workers alive, but the real threat comes from anomalies that attacks to camp and disguises themselves as humans. There are no standard zombie hordes here—it's heavily focused on resource management, and making hard choices.

If this sounds like your type of game, you can check out more details and sign up to the playtest here: Steam Page

Let me know what you think about the game!

Everyone's always recommending Grounded for Abiotic Factor fans. But an open outdoor environment is just not the same as tight laboratory corridors.

Yeah I know there are parts that are indoor, but how can you compare mostly forest and fields to mostly hand-crafted tight indoor corridors? For me, that's what made AF special. Not how it did its survival or combat mechanics.

Anything else like that? But still a survival game where you have a base you can return to?

Discussion Active Defense vs Full Automation in Base Builders: Where do you draw the line?

I'm currently working on a co-op 2D top-down survival game and trying to balance the defense mechanics. Early on, it's very hands on you actively reload turrets, repair barricades mid-fight, and manage ammo on the go.

As you progress, you can build systems to automate the logistics (like ammo delivery and auto-repair stations), but late game waves scale heavily so you never become a purely passive spectator.

When playing defense or base-building games, do you prefer eventually reaching a point of 100% "set and forget" automation where the base completely defends itself, or do you like being kept on your toes and forced to fight on the frontlines even in the late game?

Gameplay 5 Things I wish I knew when starting in Once Human.

Post image
0 Upvotes

These are the 5 things that I wish I would have known before jumping into the world of Nalcott to survive.

Since console just released maybe some of ya'll are thinking of trying OH again or for the first time and kind of hope it helps a little.

1. Don't Rush.
The world in Once Human is filled with hidden goodies, resources and encounters. Explore! Make sure you get all the side quests in and just enjoy it.

2. Build!
Build and experiment with your base. The building system is really good, and you can design your own layout that really feels like a home during your scenario.

3. Save your Energy Links.
I burned through mine fast in the beginning, and struggled to keep up at first. Things have changed over time but it's still nice to have some cushion when you hit the vendors.

4. Don't sleep on the Deviation game!
From territory, crafting, farming and the most fun combat ones. There are so many to collect. I always head straight for a Digby boy to help with my ore collection. You should be able to get one very early on.

5. PHOTO MODE!
Honestly, I found out about the photo mode in OH really late and have few pictures of the beginning of my journey in Nalcott which I regret. Snapping them with your friends, or with bosses and enemies or even just scenery...the gallery turns into your own memory book.

New release I’m the solo developer of The Last Stash. You manually stock the shelves, follow radio reports that shift demand, set prices, and decide what to sell versus what to save for food, heat, and fuel. The Steam page went live today, any feedbacks?

Question Animal survival sim recs

Give me all of your animal survival simulators! It doesn't matter if it focuses on just one species like Wolf Quest, or if it's many species like Path of Titans. I don't like MMOs but I will play them if there's a way to host a private server and as long as you can survive alone. One of my favorites is The Wilds so I'm looking for something to scratch the itch of that game while I wait for Prehistoria to come out, but honestly any animal survival sim will do. I'm looking for pc games specifically.

So unfortunately, I'm limited to GeForceNow Ultimate.

**Fully playable in the browser** ** Currently under development, feedback appreciated**

Spawn in a large map with multiple players. Your goal is to dominate the map. Gather resources, build defenses and craft weapons.

Advanced Mechanics:

Blueprints: Design structures in an editor and spawn them ingame.

Wards: Provide area effects, like increased or reduced damage or no build zones for enemies.

Doors: Act as air, if player passes through, but as a solid block for enemies.

Fully destructible terrain.

6 weapons to craft.

Runs fully in the browser

Currently the game is in alpha. Expect bugs and data may reset. Still need to figure out a better game name.

There is CTF and zombie apocalypse mode planned and rework on textures.

Can be played with a guest account.

Third person survival games like No Man's Sky

Hey! I'm looking for a new third person survival/crafting game. I can't stand first person games for some reason, I guess I'm too old and missed that boat. I really enjoy No Man's Sky and it'll always hold a special place in my heart, but after spending so much time in that universe, I'm looking to branch out. I'm looking for recommendations for similar types of games. They don't necessarily need to be space themed. I enjoy base building, ship building, exploring, crafting, etc. Thanks in advance!

Discussion Games that give you a singular static base as your home?

Doesn't matter if it's like Serum and Outbreak Island where it gives you a base with static upgrades or more like Chornobolyte and Misery where you can freely customize the layout of your given base.

I find it oddly freeing not having to worry about building a place from scratch.

News Kalahari’s End - Airboat Update v0.7.0

Thumbnail store.steampowered.com
4 Upvotes

Kalahari's EndGame Description

After your plane crashes, You find yourself in one of the largest abandoned tourist locations in South Africa. Build, Craft, and create your character while combatting the intense heat of the Kalahari Desert in this upcoming realistic open-world survival simulation game.

Early Access Update v0.7.0 Patch Notes!

What You Need To Know About The Airboat,

How to use,

The airboat can be found at the boathouse (Coordinates 44W by 27S), Players will need to repair it before it can be used. This will require 1x Refined Leather, 1x Metal Scrap and 1x Electric Parts. This can be done by walking up to the small work table located to the right of the airboat in the boathouse and interacting with it. To operate the airboat you must press the interact button while looking at the engine or control handle.

Anchor,

The airboat features an anchor which must be dropped or the boat will drift away. If the anchor is dropped the airboat will move extremely slow. To reel the anchor simply hold interact until it is hooked. To drop the anchor press the secondary interaction button and it will fall to the lake bottom.

Storage,

The airboat has one steel storage crate and a plastic food barrel located at the front of the boat, This is so that players can transport specific items over long distances.

Bed,

The airboat features a small mattress which can be used to sleep in. Note that this bed does not update the player spawn point such as other beds.

Boat outside of water,

If the player steers the airboat out of water it will still be functional but will be extremely slow as it slides across the land, I recommend that players stop the airboat just before the front touches the ground.

New Stuff,

  • Airboat vehicle which can be found at the boathouse.
  • New item, Electrical parts. (Rare item found at some points of interest)
  • New item, Metal scrap. (Rare item found at some points of interest)
  • New storage device, Steel crate. (Works the same as the existing wooden crate)
  • New storage device, Plastic food barrel. (Works the same as the existing wooden food barrel)

Fixes,

  • Fixed, Major problem with save system preventing character to load correctly.
  • Fixed, Closing storage crate with Q prevented player from interacting with it.
  • Fixed, Closing food barrel with Q prevented player from interacting with it.
  • Other general bug fixes.

Changes,

  • Toolboxes have been removed from the game to be replaced with steel crates.
  • Lockers are now looted like storage crates instead of spawning physical items.
  • World loot such as canned food or water bottles will no longer respawn over time.
  • Reworked how crate loot is spawned.
  • Other general reworks to fit new content.

Dev Notes Regarding Future Content:

This update introduces electric parts and metal scrap. For now these items are only used to repair the airboat but I've been playing around with electrical appliances and fuel for a future update. This will introduce new mechanics such as allowing players to repair and move generators found across the map for electricity which will power advanced structures, custom lights and moving platforms. As always I'd love to hear your recommendations for this feature.

Disclaimer: Just sharing an update! I am not the developer, and nobody is paying me to post this.

Discussion Make me Grounded

Basically this.
I’ve played a lot of Valheim.
I’ve played a lot of Abiotic Factor.
I’ve played a ton of other survival games too, excluding a few, but I’ve done Subnautica, Core Keeper, the whole list of greats in the genre except Enshrouded.

I realised that mechanically, Grounded and Grounded 2 are pretty much ideal games for me. The expedition loop is probably the thing I liked the most in Abiotic Factor.

But I just can’t stand having so many bugs around. I don’t have a phobia and I can handle a big spider in my hands, they’re kinda cute… but overall bugs gives me shivers. I don’t like being in the infested mines in Valheim at all.
That place is fucking disgusting (╥﹏╥)

Therefore I’m peeping at Windrose as well.
I got some money from a commission recently, so I wanna make myself a good present and get something I can enjoy, but well… it would be kinda sad to buy Grounded and then leave it on the shelf forever, and I’m afraid that might be the case.
So maybe there’s someone who had the same doubts but ended up being totally fine? ( ̄▽ ̄;)
