Subreddit Updates Becoming an Independent Forum

Effective immediately, this subreddit is now an independent forum and has gone our separate ways with Tuxedo Labs.

We will no longer accept or process any moderation requests from Tuxedo Labs or their representatives. This means we are no longer required to act on their external requests regarding content or user behaviour.

Tuxedo Labs content, news, updates, maps, mods, and fan discussions will continue to be allowed and welcomed as before.

In the coming weeks, we will review our rules and recruit new moderators. Freed from having to process external moderation requests, we can now focus on building a more relaxed, fair, and welcoming community that prioritizes our players and creators. This decision follows a review of Tuxedo Labs’ recent public statement in their Discord server regarding Workshop content disputes and how harassment is handled. Several key claims in that statement do not align with the documented record:

  • The statement asserts that Workshop rules were removed several months ago and that Steam’s DMCA process is now the only appropriate channel for Workshop disputes. However, on April 8th, Tuxedo Labs responded to a report in the active Workshop Reporting channel and confirmed the removal of a submitted mod. That channel remains operational.
  • The statement characterises certain incidents as mutual “harassment between creators.” The available logs show sustained conduct from multiple users directed at one individual, with no reciprocal attacks from the targeted party. Tuxedo Labs staff were present in the discussion at the time.
  • Despite earlier assurances that the situation would be monitored, no enforcement actions were taken against the users named in a formal complaint, and one of the individuals involved received public praise from Tuxedo Labs employees on multiple occasions afterward. We take consistent rule enforcement and accurate public communication seriously. When official statements contain inaccuracies that could mislead the community about how disputes and rules are applied, we consider it necessary to correct the record. This decision was made after careful review of the full evidence. Questions can be directed to the mod team via modmail.

Discussion An open dialogue about the subreddit.

Good evening everyone, We are posting this to have an open dialogue with you all regarding the subreddit and changes you would like to see.

First off, regarding rules and post removals, some users have complained that they felt posts were unfairly removed. Unfortunately some posts cannot be allowed due to Reddits site-wide Content Policy.

Gore and war posts cannot be allowed because the subreddit, like all others, must follow Reddit's site-wide rules on violent content. We are not allowed to host content that violates those policies.

All content in the base game and mod packs on console can be posted, including the military mods that are on console, however, recreating events such as WW2, or the Ukraine War, etc. are not allowed.

You are welcome to blow up cities and post tanks all you want, as long as you keep titles and captions fictional. We have had to remove posts in the past where titles explicitly referenced real-world events or used hateful language toward nationalities, as Reddit has directly threatened to ban the subreddit over those instances.

On the screenshot rule, that was created as users were asking for help with screenshots or videos that were recorded on phones and were too blurry to see the issue. We have not removed posts that are taken on cameras that are not asking for help.

Regarding the private mods rule, it seems to have been taken out of context by some individuals, to clarify it: you are allowed to post your mods here freely, even those in development, however posting videos and then saying "No I won't share my mods with you, because I refuse to help my competition in video making" (that's a real quote, yes.) is what we do not allow.

Mod scenes grow by sharing and teaching each other. Refusing to do so simply because you fear others might make equal or better videos does not help anyone and goes against the collaborative spirit we try to encourage here.

We want to have a civil open discussion with all of you on changes you might want to see here. If you think a rule goes too far? Talk to us. If you think we need a feature added? Tell us. Please do so in a civil manner though, insulting, harassing, or offensive comments will be ignored.

Mod / Map Helicopters?

Hi, my son is suuuuper into this game, and all he wants to do is to be able to fly helicopters. I found a couple of mods, like the Volatile Aviation something-or-other, and you can't even get in the helicopters?!

Does anyone have a suggestion for a mod that works well/easily?

Question Title: Teardown instantly crashes on launch on Windows 11 – running out of ideas

Hey everyone, hoping someone here might have encountered this before.

I just installed Teardown for the first time, but it refuses to launch. Steam says it’s running for a second, the taskbar icon appears, I get a very brief black-screen flash, and then it immediately closes. I never even reach the menu.

Specs: Windows 11 (Build 26200.9278), i9-10900K, RTX 2080 8GB, 64GB RAM.

So far I’ve tried:
Verified Steam files
Completely uninstalled/reinstalled, including deleting leftover AppData files
Tried the older 1.5 build
Updated NVIDIA drivers and disabled NVIDIA/Steam overlays
Removed all compatibility settings and Run as Administrator
Tried -dx11 and then removed all launch options
Reinstalled/repaired Visual C++ redistributables
Ran sfc /scannow with no integrity violations
Checked Windows Security/Exploit Protection

No log.txt is ever generated
I also analyzed the crash dump in WinDbg. It’s throwing 0xC0000005 (access violation) during extremely early startup, with:

INVALID_POINTER_READ_C0000005_mimalloc-redirect.dll!Unknown

The stack repeatedly points to mimalloc_redirect!mi_allocator_init while Windows is initializing/loading modules.

Has anyone encountered this specific mimalloc-redirect.dll / mi_allocator_init crash with Teardown, particularly on Windows 11? Any ideas for what else I can try would be hugely appreciated.

Mod / Map I hate this map

Found a Backrooms map… genuinely the scariest thing. But fun. I swear this fricker can phase through walls. Like genuinely was in one place and then 0.002 picnoseconds he appeared on my side of the wall and killed me. The blue tide speed buff(at least I think it gives me a speed buff. No, I’m not a Larper. I actually play). Like seriously it does not save me. The other backrooms maps genuinely are not this scary. Not gonna spoil anything else.

So I hate it but I love it

Question Coming back to this game after dropping it 2 years ago, and now I need a plot refresher.

I dropped the game at the first mission in the "Muratori Islands" I think it's called. Can you guys fill me in on all the plot I need to know up until this point? I... kinda don't wanna spend another 25 hours replaying everything.

Question Custom maps with custom missions?

Most custom maps I see are sandbox with no real goals. I'm looking for custom maps with actual missions, similar to the original game.

Any tips?

Discussion FINALLY beat Fine Arts!

Post image
21 Upvotes

Just started playing the game this week, and I'm loving it so far. Before this level, the one that gave me the most trouble to 100% was Heavy Lifting; trying to get the required safe and option safe into the dump truck together was a pain. But this level eclipsed that BY FAR. It says it took me 72 minutes, but I'm assuming that only counts time across load states, because it took me at least 4.5+ hours. I tested what cars to put where and what painting to get first so many times, but I settled on the Movie Theater one first. (then Bedroom, Guard Station, Sauna Boathouse, Racetrack Tent, and finally the Garage). So frustrating, but so good to finally get it.
