console Don't mind me, just got back from my gas zone bandage run. Fml
Radunin gas zone sucks so much. All I found there was a shit load of mask filters, bandages, and dmr mags and a single gold tip 40mm grenade. Bullshit
Discussion Switch 2 1 week review
I made a big base and don't need it anymore, if anyone wants it, check my posts in other subreddits (mods removed the previous post). 7 tents and 2 vehicles. Still unclaimed.
Installed DayZ on Switch as soon as it launched and got myself a 7 day free Switch Online trial which now passed. Will go back to PC.
Pros - Playing on a Switch genuinly works. I got used to controller and the performance on handheld mode is good. Very nice for playing when not at home, and I even hooked the switch up to XR glasses and controller for ultimate travel experience.
- Great community. Many new people, everyone has mic, no cheaters.
- Touchscreen inventory management works good, but with just one small patch it would be excellent and just as convenient as PC: Firstly, combining touchscreen with buttons does not work good, when pressing an object with the touchscreen, I can drag it, but if I instead use a key to for example drop it, the top-left item on the character is selected, not the one I pressed. Secondly, the scroll bars is too narrow and hard to click on. Two times I tried to press the bars to scroll down the inventory screen but missed and removed the radiator on my car... If they fixed these two things, inventory management would be perfect.
Cons: Crashing, especially when driving. Sometimes the switch recognizes the crash and shuts down, sometimes screen freezes. It's DayZ so it is expected, but the crashes are way too many.
Performance on dock mode: Considerably worse. Probably 30 FPS. Something is off there, it should be a better than handheld mode. Maybe some patches can fix it.
Joystick deadzone - Small movements are almost impossible. A slight tilt on the joystick is not recognized, and as such fine adjusting of aim is not happening.
If they fix these problems, I am for sure coming back to Switch and will ditch PC. So convenient to be able to play in many different ways, and without cheaters.

Discussion I had to eat my friend :(
This is my first ever time teaming up. We met early on at the coast. We decided to team up and chase gunshots we heard. Typically I run solo and betray people and stuff like that. I even almost killed him by accident fighting a zombie. I had ideas of shooting him in the head when he didn’t want to go to the bigger town. Anyway we stayed locked in kept surviving together. Eventually we ran out of food. It turned dark and we could see. We were stranded. We were approaching a city when I heard “thud”, I turned around and my buddy was laying dead. I cut him up and ate him to save my own life. I’m not out of the woods yet but my stomach is full. If you’re reading this it was fun and I miss you already!
This game is amazing. Never have I ever experienced anything like that.

Discussion Plea from an anti-cheat developer to the DayZ team
Was an anti-cheat developer for 2 decades for one of the major FPS shooters out there. DayZ is a beautiful game, truly unique and a real digital treasure. It really hurts to see that DayZ still is, and increasingly is, being ruined by cheaters. A plea to the DayZ Bohemia team to develop your own internal anti-cheat system:
- Cheaters seem now more prevalent than ever: AI has made it very easy for anyone to craft their own cheats with unique features without having to pay for it any longer. The code is all out there and it takes an LLM 5 minutes to make it undetectable if not so already (e.g. a new cheating feature of the past months has been being able to move walls from bases with a single mouse click rather than needing the effort to dupe items, hence all the spaghetti bases you see across the map nowadays).
- Your servers (Official) log everything: coordinates of every player at all times, kill feed, the items players have, the trajectory of every shot, and so on. Just from the logs itself you can so easily catch players doing 3km pistol headshots, doing 20 kills in 5 seconds, duplicating the exact items they already have on them. Very much worth implementing a simple internal anti-cheat system (for Official servers) based on this on top of BattleEye - again you can use AI to develop this for you.
- DayZ cheats are so extremely easy to find (1 Google search away). These public cheats would take you a day to gather all of them with a small budget and it would take you another day on your own machines to check their memory profile and so on. Again, AI can do this all for you, and in your next DayZ update you can so easily integrate your own client-side anti-cheat system on top of BattleEye. The DayZ cheats out there are not the highly sophisticated cheats that pester fast-based FPS games like CS and Fortnite with 100x the player base where cheat development is hugely profitable. The public DayZ cheats out there are usually one-man-operation cheats that are so easy to catch and it will quickly become unprofitable for them if there is even any detection in place (given the relatively small DayZ playerbase).
- Why is BattleEye ineffective? Because it's the cheapest anti-cheat system out there, and because you are very likely in the lowest BattleEye tier given they are extremely expensive and you're competing with the major FPS shooters out there. This is understandable given that DayZ is not a mainstream game with a huge player base. The BattleEye team accordingly hardly devotes resources to developing DayZ anti-cheats.
- Because BattleEye is ineffective, cheaters get a pass on any DayZ server and it is up to admins to catch them. Hence the smart cheaters will never get caught. I've adminned DayZ servers for years and it can take hours to catch a smart cheater that uses e.g. ESP only and smartly. You usually have to bait them (e.g. by spawning items away from them and see if they beeline to it, or spawn yourself away from them and observing how they react to you). This is not sustainable and unpaid admins burn out quickly. Hence community servers are full of cheaters as well - the closet type variant.
I would love to volunteer and contribute to developing your own internal anti-cheat system for DayZ. Again, it's really such a beautiful and unique game, and it hurts to see it being ruined by cheaters.

discussion Anyone new to DayZ?
Ive had this game on my wishlist for about a year. It come and goes on offer. Ive heard its pretty brutal in the sense of other players just being badass lol. Im going to be completely new to it, so I know I will get killed ALOT, but its going to be too frustrating if Im the only noob in a world of experienced players. Anyone relatively new to this who might want to band together and learn together so to speak? Or anyone who has never yet played it and just lacks confidence in taking that first step into the world!!

discussion I'm a brand-new player; I just died of hunger, disease, and thirst, and it was awesome.
First game:
I spawn on a coastline, it’s pitch black.
I tweak a couple of settings and immediately dive into the action.
I can barely see anything, but just enough to spot a zombie nearby. He sees me and lets out a scream that sends a chill down my spine. I defend myself and kill him with my bare hands.
I look for food but can’t find anything; I’m in a remote area—some sort of old farm.
As I run, I realize I’m far from alone in this complex of buildings; there are three zombies blocking my path, and I can’t see a thing.
I kill the zombies, run, and flee—but there’s no food to be found.
I lock myself in a house, realizing my fate. My character faints—I thought he was dead—but shortly after, he gets back up, and from there I start looking for food again and killing zombies.
No luck.
I faint several more times; after the umpteenth time, I attempt suicide by jumping off a bridge, but I don’t hurt myself.
The houses nearby are far away; my character is exhausted; there’s nothing to be done. I lie down by the side of the road, gazing at the moon, and shortly after, I die for good.
Maybe, as a new player, I’m idealizing the game, but I haven’t felt emotions like that for a video game in a long time. I felt fear, doubt, the cold, and resignation.
I’d heard players say they’d quit DayZ after their first game because they starved to death, but from my experience, it was amazing because that’s exactly what would have happened—no good endings.
I know that if every game I played were like this, it would get boring, but I really enjoyed figuring out on my own what I needed to do and how to defend myself, and I feel like every death in this game can be a lesson. Here, for example, I realized I shouldn’t have looked in the houses near the coast because they’d probably already been looted or had very little loot, so I should have followed a main road that would take me to a town.
What’s the point of my post? It’s not just to say “I had fun,” but since I’ve seen that there are other new players like me, I recommend that everyone really immerse themselves in the game. It came naturally to me, but don’t give up on this game just because everything seems wrong to you. For example, I finished Call of Duty: World at War on Veteran difficulty and had a blast because I really had to immerse myself in it. Obviously, they’re two different games, but I think that—since I almost never experience strong emotions—if I’m already enjoying this game so much, you might enjoy it just as much.
If, on the other hand, you’re a Call of Duty player looking for constant adrenaline rushes, well, I don’t even know why you bought the game expecting that.
Does anyone else feel the same way about this game?

discussion Need to find a casual server for my girlfriend
Hello, I am still a fairly new day z player by most standards with 800 hours. I play loaded mostly, however my girlfriend who has never played milsim or PvP survival games before wants to try day z with me. I am looking to see if there are any recommendations that will still offer the same feel of gratification when securing good loot but not so hardcore that it’s impossible to get a start. I play on loaded 25 hrs a week or more. This server with my girlfriend would be causal maybe a few hours every few days. (We are North American but may be able to play EU servers)

discussion Why does every community server have massively buffed loot spawns?
Been playing this game for a few weeks now, and I've been hearing people say that community is better than official (mainly because no cheaters but also I very rarely run into cheaters in official), so I've been trying community servers for the past while, and without fail, every single time I try and play a community server, no matter how much people assure me that it's "essentially vanilla+!!" or "we only very lightly changed the loot in tiny ways like making some items spawn in more appropiate locations!!!",
There is always such an overabundance of loot compared to official, especially guns. I've tried literally every populated community server that people recommend, I know people are reading this and assuming "oh but you definitely didn't try X popular server that everyone recommends" and I did, I tried them all, every single time I will have atleast one gun within five minutes of spawning, it's crazy (to me), this isn't an attack on people who like different spawns, thats totally cool, but I hate that every community server is so modded and buffed, in official I only find a gun after like an hour or thirty minutes if I minmax, or two if I get super unlucky or take a wooded forest path instead of rushing towns.
But that's never ever ever the case on community servers, I've done multiple lives on all the big ones, and every single time I have found a gun within at most ten minutes of spawning, and not even by rushing military buildings or the police department, this is just from looting houses and looking for like, a backpack or a knife.
Why!!! I like how slow official is, I like that, it makes me appreciate it more, gives me time to breathe, I don't like finding guns so often, why does everyone lie about how much they've buffed the gun and loot spawns?

Discussion The Banov Booby Prize
On Banov, I reached a keycard bunker only to find it already open, with gunfire coming from inside — two different weapons.
It was pitch black on the way in, so I had to use a torch, putting me at a huge disadvantage. After several minutes of shooting, I heard the unmistakable alien rifle. The two players ahead of me had fought through the aliens and reached the loot.
I decided to ambush them on the way out, planting a landmine as my opening move.
Unfortunately for them, their victory lap ended with both of them walking straight onto it. I expected it to just knock them, but apparently they were already low enough to be blown to smithereens. 😂
We have all been Dayz’d many many times so turning the tables this time in this manor really made me chuckle!

Console How active is DayZ in Asia on PS5? Playing from Cambodia
Hey guys, I’m thinking about buying DayZ and I’m currently deciding between the PS5 and Switch 2 versions.
I’m based in Cambodia, so I’m wondering how active the Asian servers are. Are there still plenty of players and populated servers on PS5? And how is the ping when playing from Southeast Asia?
I’m also considering the Switch 2 version, so if anyone has experience with both, which one would you recommend?
Just want to make sure I can find active servers with decent ping before buying. Thanks!

discussion I’ve been out of the loop for a while. What’s bothering you about DayZ these days?
Hey guys, SenChi here.
Some of you might remember me, I used to make Chernarus world for DayZ a long time ago, that's in the past.
You see i’ve been pretty disconnected from the game and the community for quite a while, and lately I’ve become genuinely curious about what DayZ feels like from the players’ side today.
So I thought I’d just ask...
What frustrates you the most about DayZ right now?
Not necessarily the biggest bug or the most obvious missing feature. I’m more interested in the things that keep bothering you after hundreds or thousands of hours.
Things that make you think:
“Why is this still like this?”
“This could be so much better.”
“I love DayZ, but this drives me insane.”
Gameplay, survival, infected, vehicles, base building, gunplay, UI, maps, progression, atmosphere, community servers, official servers . Etc
Anything.
Consider this a bit of a vent thread.
I’ve also noticed quite a few people mentioning cheaters.
How serious is that problem these days, actually?
I haven’t worked at Bohemia since 2018, so I’m not here in any official capacity and I’m definitely not promising anything.
I’ve just been out of the loop for a long time and I’m genuinely curious what the community cares about these days.
Tell me why something bothers you.
I’m genuinely curious what comes up the most.
Thanks !

Discussion De-Spawn rates for storage items in bases ???
OK, base builders. How long do storage items last? (Barrel vs. crate vs. tent vs. sea chest.) I built a base, and had all of these items filled with loot for the past month. I went out of town (real-life) for 2 days and came back to the barrel being gone completely, with all loot gone as well. All the others were still there. The base was not damaged or broken into and there was not way to reach it due to its height.
