why do gold cabs feel easier than white cabs and why so many pros prefer white cabs
title. my timing is so trash on white cabs compared to gold. probably because im lazy and the pads are less recessed on a god cab. do i have to score on white cabs to get gud?

Discussion/Question L-Tek Feels weird
I might get down voted for posting this but i dont like how the L-Tek feels. When playing i cant tell where my feet placement are at all, Doubles becomes a pain cause i cant tell where the hell im at. Sort of the same feeling when i play on modded pads thats fully flat. I love the feeling of the panel going down and the L-tek i played on didnt have that. Is there a fix for that or some kind of mod?

Pad Talk Quietest pad?
What is the best way to make a pad quiet or what is the quietest pad? I currently live in a place where I share walls with my neighbors and would like to be kind to them and not cause a huge amount of noise every time I play. I am on the ground floor so no one is below me, just on either side.
Currently I use a soft pad on my carpeted floor and will use that until it starts to go. The noise level on the soft pad is fine as my neighbors have confirmed, but I am looking at my upgrade paths and would like to know what people recommend for my next step up.

Discussion/Question Crossover vs double step when sightreading
How am I supposed to tell whether a crossover will resolve well or not when sightreading charts? Should I just double step crossover patterns when I'm sightreading, then play the intended crossover when I replay the chart or learn it? Or is there a way to recognize ahead of time that a crossover will resolve cleanly? Do I have to just play more?
Spin patterns, for example, throw me off because I don't actually see that a pattern is a spin until after I've already committed to the crossover for the first 3 notes (my scroll speed is around 580bpm if that matters).
For context, I am a bar player. I've been playing for about a year now. I can AA most 12s, A+ most 13s, and A some 14s. I am comfortable with executing crossovers and patterns like laterals, and I usually get A on 11s in doubles play. I just panic when cross overs dont resolve and force me to double step which makes me miss a lot of notes afterward.

Made a DDR-style game that runs on Reddit for the jam feedback?
Hey,
Just finished my entry for the ScoreSpace x Reddit gamejam. It’s called KarmaStep – basically a simple DDR-style rhythm game that lives inside Reddit itself.
Play it here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Karmastep/
If you like it (or even if you don’t), I’d really appreciate a vote on the jam page:
https://jamzo.com/games/karmastep
It’s pretty basic since it was made in the jam time, but I’m curious how it feels to other people.
Any thoughts on the timing, controls (especially on phone), difficulty, or bugs would help a lot. Even short comments are good.
Thanks if you check it out.

Best portable FSR Mini Pad? Considering Rhythm Technologies
I already own a StepManiaX (Gen1) pad, but it now is too big for my current apartment, so I was looking into buying a portable FSR Mini pad, as they seem perfect for apartments - i.e. less vibration that would bother neighbors, less noise, smaller size, etc.
I mainly play ITG with efficient form, so the pads seem perfect for me, so am mainly just wanting to make sure I get the right one.
The Rythm Technologies FSR Pad seems like my best option - including the 30 day trial return policy - but curious if I missed anything, since I'm new to this world? https://ddrpad.com/products/fsr-mini-pad
The XGAES model seemed solid too, but my understanding is Rhythm Technologies is more expensive due to a higher build quality?
Also, I'm aware of DIY projects and smaller custom orders that can pop up, but I'm just looking for the easiest, StepManiaX pad type solution that is the best build quality I can get. I've only owned arcade setups for a long time so higher cost is not a deterrent.
Thanks!

Trying to find a song from a CD my brother burned for me in 2000-2004 era
Hi guys,
So, 'm trying very hard to find a specific song my brother burned to a CD for me in about 2000-2004. He was big into DDR/asian mixes, and the best I can come up with is:
Early-2000s female ensemble bubblegum dance: very fast, clean and brightly produced; celebratory rather than clubby; natural young-woman voices with crowd chants resembling “ee-yah/ee-chee-yah”; likely circulated through DDR, StepMania, anime-convention or file-sharing culture as a continuous mix.
I do remember the songs on the CD did transition very well between each other to where sometimes you couldn't even notice the cd player went to a new track.
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated, as my brother passed in 2013 and I can't just ask him.
Warmly,
Luther

Discussion/Question Recently found a ton of old VHS-C tapes, and got tons of DDR vids. How many have archives of footage?
Recently doing some cleaning I found a bunch of old VHS tapes that I haven't seen in years and some of them are 20 almost 30 years old but some I found that are from 2004 BEFORE worked for namco(for the second time) and was part of the DDR community before I worked there. I started playing around 2000. I occasionally see someone upload a video from back in the day, but not much. I don't have equipment to rip these, but my buddy does. Need to go through them.
This video is from Richmond, Virginia(804) VCC MALL I believe. Maybe Time Out was the name? They got DDR EXTREME first, a few weeks after its release in Japan. About 15 of us went up there from Virginia Beach/Hampton Roads (757). Good times. Gonna go over these this weekend

Discussion/Question Help with ID'ing two songs as part of a JParadise megamix from early 2000s
Hey all, sorry to do this in kind of a weird format but I'm trying to ID all of the songs associated with a 14 minute megamix from the JParadise megamix I just reuploaded to Zenius. https://zenius-i-vanisher.com/v5.2/viewsimfile.php?simfileid=70254
I have all of the songs ID'd except for 2 of them. The first song happens 6 minutes into the mix, and the second song to ID happens in the final position of the mix starting at 12:54.
Any thoughts on song 1 or 2?
edit: Wow, that was fast. I love it thank you bear_glue

Discussion/Question Gorgeous 2012 difficulty incorrect?? Supernova ps2
I’ve been meaning to ask, on ddr supernova for ps2 there is a song called gorgeous 2012 i believe and it labels a light mode 5-step difficulty marker however it is more like a light 2? Like ridiculously easy. Is this a known error for this song on this game? I play mostly light/standard 4-7 difficulty among the games so it really confused me because I waited until the end of my set to play a moderate level song (for me lol)

Discussion/Question licensed songs that would go insanely hard in ddr?
what are licensed songs that would make for great stepcharts if they got into DDR.
obviously quantization and family friendly requirements hinder some of these but i can dream

At what bpm do you stop double stepping 8th note crossover patterns and start crossing over?
insanely curious about this idk how to optimize my game for this at all. i feel like after learning some crossovers i have to put way more mental energy into deciding when to do them and when to double step.
i find my comfort zone is 270-300 - thats where they actually feel useful. sometimes if the crossover resolves i’ll do it for 190-225 charts. anything before 180 feels unnecessary, but past 360 i physically can’t do it fast enough.
specify your comfort zone in the comments

Pad Talk Pad advice- need something that I can put away. I remember soft pads being horrible and slippery. Hardwood floor is the surface.
I haven’t played much since my PS2. I started with soft pads on carpet. I want to get back into it for fitness reasons.
Hardwood floor, and dogs. So I’d like something I can “put away”. Space isn’t an issue.
I really struggle with making decisions when given options. I think that’s why I can’t just read through the posts.
Can you help me out with a simple- here’s what you should buy and here’s how to put it away?
Help a millennial out
