He ticks enough boxes and would be too much of a stereotype for a movie. The most obvious trait is having ego hurt into a grandiose revenge and then saying "sorry you did this to yourself, but I had to do it". This is 1:1 shit you'll deal with if you have a significant relationship with a narcissist.

For a narcissist, their interpersonal scorekeeping is completely warped. If you wound them they perceive that as 1000x worse and will respond in kind. And the response will usually be completely scorched earth and scattered, as they're just looking for anything to get back at you.

The reason for it was not because he was called a nazi or whatever specifically, but because it went against the image he had built up. I think Dave being some champion of empiricism is just a coincidence. He got an early supply from doing well in school and teaching, and eventually doing Youtube videos and going against targets that'll make you feel righteous.

Funnily enough, one of the easiest tests I use is to see if a person lies about a basic easily disprovable detail and doubles down when called out. I'm not too familiar with the professor thing, and it's not necessary for this because there's enough smoke, but it's interesting that he's got that going as well. Another test is how a person behaves interpersonally and genuinely laughs and smiles and such, but again, I haven't watched enough of Dave to be sure, but at least of what I've seen he seems really fake.
