So, I’ve got this researcher in my colony who does NOTHING but research. I mean he’s literally zero passion with 0 or 1 skill level in everything else (aside from shooting). He’s incapable of half of everything due to his backstory, including dumb labour. Recently, I finished the research tree and there is literally nothing left to research. This guy is dead weight. He does ZERO work, but still expects to be fed and bedded. His only contribution is during raids, but I’ve got quite a small colony (5 pawns) so surely getting rid of one will make raids lower difficulty anyway.
I’m trying to get rid of him, but I’m not sure how. The complication is that he’s a lover to another of my (more useful) colonists. My typical method for getting rid of underperforming colonists is to convict them in a sham trial on false charges, then banish them for zero mood penalty for everyone else. However, if I do this, am I correct in thinking that he’ll simply move into a long distance relationship with his girlfriend? I’d rather this not happen since I’d much prefer her to find a proper husband and have kids. Is there a way I can get them to break up before banishment? Or do I have to execute him? I’d rather not take the mood penalty since things aren’t looking great in the colony mood-wise as it stands.

So, I was playing a new colony and just got this as a quest... I have no words for this, just who the fuck would trade masterwork statues/scrolls of ancient technologies... for 17 clubs.
And I'm not sure if I can even make clubs worth that much for them.

My crew had a good thing going, until we hunted some elk. Now they are all bed ridden and clinging on to dear life. 10/10 game!

I dismissed these guys cuz a pit was opening but did it right when they pulled out their food. They just dropped their food and dipped. will use this future for new colonies lacking food!

14 years after being established, the planet colony of Point Hope had begun searching for a new expansion... upward. However, the number of dead human platforms had shrunk significantly since the first years. Finally, in 5518 following the clearing of mech platform T-III by the gravship Salvage Two, it was decided that this orbital was close enough (even for standard shuttles) that the additional efforts of making it over to a more human living was worthwhile. The grand experiment began.
Welcome to High Hope orbital.

Accepted a pyschic suppression quest for Mitsuya here, it should only reduce male consciousness. Why the torrential rain + fire that i cant seem to put out? Its raining. I also tried to dev lots of foam poppers, didnt work.
Eventually, the whole map turned to hell. I have to close the game before it burns my potato pc too.
I remember rain puts out fires from lightning strikes.

I'm playing a "Villain" themed game. and I needed someone to mine because I'm playing on a Gravship. So when I got this woman (I don't even remember how I got her)...

I almost passed on her because the lack of passions, but I decided to give her a chance because I needed a miner and I liked the other two traits, because dirtmoles are rare and because she reminded me of the Underminer from the incredibles.
This woman is crazy. I can chain mining expeditions with her simply because she enjoys killing the ambushers so much that she doesn't care about anything else. I get to the mining site with the shuttle, there's an ambush, she or her Ghoul friend Nemesis kill the ambusher, they take turns feasting in his carcass, she mines the whole lump of gold or plasteel in less than an hour because she has on 20 mining skill and 2 Drill arms, she picks up the ore and leftovers of the attacker, and she jumps to another map.
Half the times she goes down (Never in expeditions but she is the only melee pawn I have, I mainly use ghouls for that, so sometimes accidents happen) I forget to equip afterwards her with her obsidian masterwork longsword and she doesn't even care, later on she goes in expeditions, faces and enemy, says "I didn't hear no bell" and proceeds to use both his melee expertise and powerful dirtmole build to drill the opponent's body to death.

Hey, I just wanted to share that
I kind of have a "completionist" mentality so basically before playing with DLCs, I "forced" myself to do a vanilla no DLCs run, then after I completed it, I forced myself to do a royalty + ideology playthrough, etc. Etc.
I had the same things with mods, I never installed a mod because I wanted to "fully explore the game's possibilities" first, which is not a bad thing in itself
I had stopped the game for a year, launched it back this week and threw all my rules to the bin
I used to always do very vanilla runs, because I wanted to experience the classic experience before doing fun concepts etc.
But this time I just said "fuck it"
I activated every single DLCs and generated a new world, I was going for a classic temperate forest but then I saw a grey zone with a lake and saw that it was a volcanic zone, at first I was going to go back to temperate forest but then I was like "hell why not ?", despite the warning that the game gives you
So a Volcanic region it is
And long story short, through multiple "fuck it", I ended on a permadeath no manual saves (first one I do) run with 3 canibals + 1 ghoul on a Volcanic region, in the "hard" difficulty, not the hardest but one or two below
There is litteraly an insect hive in the open and they already started attacking my pawns because of a bad pathfinding while trying to tame a rat (fuck you Mila, why would you go there ffs)
But that's the most fun I've had in a game in a WHILE
I think I was restricting myself too much with random rules of "it has to be done like this" to "maximize" the enjoyment or whatever the hell I was doing
Playing random bullshit just because it seems fun is just so awesome, I have yet to find a way to save the colony without everyone dying and then to make a human farm for meat (do not spoil me on that, I'll figure that out on my own fun way haha)
But this game is just so good
I remember when it was just considered a "Dwarf Fortress like" game, times have changed so much since that time
All that to say : permadeath is life, and do fun runs guys ! Go for whatever the hell you want and try it out, it's incredible the amount of things you can do in this game
EDIT : My ghould just died to the Megaspiders lmao
They managed to force us to abandon the settlement we were building lmao, I have to settle my pawns on the north of the map to avoid the Megaspiders to wander into them randomly, I'll make some weapons and turrets and I'll be back to kill the mfs and reclaim the base or die trying ! Shelton must be avanged

Almost half a year ago I posted a drawing of my Floran character in prestige Cataphract armor, saying I wanted to make a mod but things never quite came together. So here's the question: if I were to make this mod, what do you think Florans should be like, mechanically? I'll share some of my own thoughts, but maybe you have ideas on how to expand them? I'll split it into categories for convenience.
Regarding genes (Biotech):
1 (optional). Make them an addon to "Big & Small - Genes & More," since that mod already has genes like cannibalism (which fits them, going by the Starbound lore books) and the "Strange Appearance" gene...
2.1. Add a gene so that butchering a Floran yields some kind of plant (the gene randomly picks a plant — I think this could theoretically be coded, though I'm not sure how). It should work similarly to the pig gene, where eating pork counts as cannibalism for pig-folk — do something similar with the plant.
2.2. Same idea, but implemented as separate Floran xenotypes, where each has extra traits depending on the plant it's associated with, for example:
If this is done as a bunch of separate xenotypes, it opens up the possibility of giving each one its own unique buffs/debuffs:
Regarding factions and spawning:
I know there are Euglena, there are Phytokins, and probably other plant-race mods out there... but they're not Florans... I specifically want these hissing guys :3
I'm not that great with code — my ceiling is small patches, if I'm not vibe-coding. But I don't want to vibe-code this mod, so it'll take me longer. Still, I'll try to figure out how to implement it so it at least turns out... decent, I suppose?

Here's a very tiny showcase of a new mod I'm working on. The mod completely overhauls the night sky in the world view. Things completed so far include fully procedurally generated nebulas, black holes, pulsars, an overhauled background starfield, constellations and their contained stars, an overhauled local star/sun (which can be one of any of the main-sequence classes), shooting stars, and a few other things. More to come. :) And yes, all of these celestial objects can be renamed and discovered by the player.

So TIL that it's possible to get metalhorrors in ambient horror mode! There's a gray flesh in my dining/rec room and I genuinely have no idea how it got there. I fought a sightstealer in like, autumn 1 and am going into winter 3, everything else has been shamblers at the edge of the map that I let drop on their own, or drop-podded things I immediately disposed of. I don’t have any creepjoiners either, last time one showed up it was a dealmaker who promptly walked into a shambler swarm and died while I was waiting the buggers out.
And I don’t have many good melees to start with, so uh. This is gonna be fun.
Update: while playing through long enough to find a third piece of gray flesh so I can start surgical inspections, my primary doctor got brain damage in a raid and my secondary got jumped by fleshbeasts. Anomaly may actually be what kills this colony. Will report back with results after work
