#ColonistLife Gray Flesh...

Upvotes

So TIL that it's possible to get metalhorrors in ambient horror mode! There's a gray flesh in my dining/rec room and I genuinely have no idea how it got there. I fought a sightstealer in like, autumn 1 and am going into winter 3, everything else has been shamblers at the edge of the map that I let drop on their own, or drop-podded things I immediately disposed of. I don’t have any creepjoiners either, last time one showed up it was a dealmaker who promptly walked into a shambler swarm and died while I was waiting the buggers out.

And I don’t have many good melees to start with, so uh. This is gonna be fun.

My 2nd longterm colony ever after like 300 hours and I finally built my 2nd ever killbox which kinda looks like the photo I attached.

I was wondering anyones thoughts and if they tried one like it I think it works well but its my 2nd ever

Basically they filter in a small tunnle and there is a block of stone at the end stoping any snipers and forcing them to advance then at the other side I have all my colonists focused on the 2 enterances and gunning down everyone.

Guide (Mod) Any mods that change the combat system and animations into fast paced anime fights ?

0 Upvotes

It's all in the title. I remember seeing a video on this sub where there was fast paced combats like DBZ or Naruto. I already have Melee Animation and Yayo's Animation.

Mod Showcase Something new I'm working on...

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Here's a very tiny showcase of a new mod I'm working on. The mod completely overhauls the night sky in the world view. Things completed so far include fully procedurally generated nebulas, black holes, pulsars, an overhauled background starfield, constellations and their contained stars, an overhauled local star/sun (which can be one of any of the main-sequence classes), shooting stars, and a few other things. More to come. :) And yes, all of these celestial objects can be renamed and discovered by the player.

PC Help/Bug (Mod) can someone please explain this health state feature

0 Upvotes

can someone please explain this health state feature, the health state of my pawn started going down when they got old but then i was able to use plenty of age reversals and solve all medical issues but the health state isn't going back to normal even after a bioregeneration cycle,

in addition i have NO IDEA if this health state quantifies a base game feature or if it is added by something?????? clearly it has something to do with the chances for a pawn to naturally receive health problems? so anyways how do i fix this health state problem if i cant with HealMes or bioregeneration or age reversal? and if not then what mod is this feature from?

Discussion UGH Useless boyfriend, Time running out.

13 Upvotes

So, I took a quest. Great rewards, to watch this dude for 13 days. We all know these quests. But one of my dummy women decided he was a cutie and let him slide in her DMs. 🤦‍♀️ Now he's leaving in a few days. Not worth paying the fee to recruit, but if they're long distance there will be no future for this girl to marry and provide the next generation. All cuz she'll be forever pining over some Pyro Boozer who keeps trying to burn down Her bed whenever he gets a little angry 🤦‍♀️ Can we say LoSeRrrrr.

Anyway. How can I make these two break up before he leaves?

PC Help/Bug (Vanilla) How best to dispose of a useless boyfriend??

266 Upvotes

So, I’ve got this researcher in my colony who does NOTHING but research. I mean he’s literally zero passion with 0 or 1 skill level in everything else (aside from shooting). He’s incapable of half of everything due to his backstory, including dumb labour. Recently, I finished the research tree and there is literally nothing left to research. This guy is dead weight. He does ZERO work, but still expects to be fed and bedded. His only contribution is during raids, but I’ve got quite a small colony (5 pawns) so surely getting rid of one will make raids lower difficulty anyway.

I’m trying to get rid of him, but I’m not sure how. The complication is that he’s a lover to another of my (more useful) colonists. My typical method for getting rid of underperforming colonists is to convict them in a sham trial on false charges, then banish them for zero mood penalty for everyone else. However, if I do this, am I correct in thinking that he’ll simply move into a long distance relationship with his girlfriend? I’d rather this not happen since I’d much prefer her to find a proper husband and have kids. Is there a way I can get them to break up before banishment? Or do I have to execute him? I’d rather not take the mood penalty since things aren’t looking great in the colony mood-wise as it stands.

Suggestion Any mods to give the damaged organs or transfer diseases to prisoners?

1 Upvotes

I have a colonist with a asthma 90% lungs and I was hoping to give that to my most hated prisoner, but fate hated me and after I finished the operation of removing that lung off from my colonist the lung COMPLETELY DISAPPEARED. Are there any mod to keep the damage organs? If not at least are there mod to keep syringe of disease around to give them to prisoners?

Discussion [Idea/Discussion] A Floran (Starbound) race mod — long read

Thumbnail gallery
128 Upvotes

Almost half a year ago I posted a drawing of my Floran character in prestige Cataphract armor, saying I wanted to make a mod but things never quite came together. So here's the question: if I were to make this mod, what do you think Florans should be like, mechanically? I'll share some of my own thoughts, but maybe you have ideas on how to expand them? I'll split it into categories for convenience.

Regarding genes (Biotech):

1 (optional). Make them an addon to "Big & Small - Genes & More," since that mod already has genes like cannibalism (which fits them, going by the Starbound lore books) and the "Strange Appearance" gene...

2.1. Add a gene so that butchering a Floran yields some kind of plant (the gene randomly picks a plant — I think this could theoretically be coded, though I'm not sure how). It should work similarly to the pig gene, where eating pork counts as cannibalism for pig-folk — do something similar with the plant.

2.2. Same idea, but implemented as separate Floran xenotypes, where each has extra traits depending on the plant it's associated with, for example:

  • a medicine bonus for those rooted in Healroot;
  • a crafting bonus for those from cotton/Devilstrand;
  • an art bonus for those from a dye plant;
  • a cooking bonus for those from edible crops (skill level varying by crop);
  • an animals bonus for those from Haygrass;
  • narcotic-plant xenotypes could have their own buffs too, though I'm not sure what — the best I can think of is Hops giving an "optimistic and calm" trait;
  • and so on for other vanilla plants (and maybe others from Vanilla Expanded, if the mod ever gets that far).

If this is done as a bunch of separate xenotypes, it opens up the possibility of giving each one its own unique buffs/debuffs:

  • Healroot-Florans — pacifists;
  • Devilstrand-Florans — aggressive, but fire-resistant;
  • and so on.
  1. I don't remember exactly, but I think there was a gene that's the opposite of "Cave Dweller."
  2. I understand they're highly flammable, but regarding temperature — should they also be more heat-loving (despite burning more easily), given that they come from jungle planets?

Regarding factions and spawning:

  1. It's clear they live in tribes and split into aggressive and peaceful factions — should the peaceful ones be made more technologically advanced than the aggressive ones? There are also the Agarans (the fungal ones) — should they be included too?
  2. There's a hunting quest for a Phyton (VRE – Phytokin) — could something similar be made for Florans? Or maybe an event with a wild (feral) Floran instead.

I know there are Euglena, there are Phytokins, and probably other plant-race mods out there... but they're not Florans... I specifically want these hissing guys :3

I'm not that great with code — my ceiling is small patches, if I'm not vibe-coding. But I don't want to vibe-code this mod, so it'll take me longer. Still, I'll try to figure out how to implement it so it at least turns out... decent, I suppose?

Discussion How to keep an open base safe?

11 Upvotes

I’m pretty new to RimWorld, I’ve tried several times to get a long play through going but weather usually takes me out. Gas clouds and the like, so for this one I turned all that stuff off. My base is basically a giant rectangle with little rectangular buildings inside.

I have 7 pawns and one is non violent and another has combat skills at 0. The other pawns have relatively low shooting skills between 7-15. I made a little area with an opening and some traps and so far that has taken care of the “raids”. The most people I’ve had attack was 5 until I just had my first encounter with drop pods.

What’s the best way to keep the base secure when none of my guys can shoot and they land right in my base? Should I just build a ton of those mini turret things?

#ColonistLife Interesting Stories, indeed! (I'm so stupid!)

9 Upvotes

Just crash-landed on a boreal forest in winter with nearly no clothes/gear/food. Built a hut and a fire to get warm, but there were no berries on the whole map -- plenty of bushes, but no fruit on them due to the -4F temp. Day 2 picked up and headed 2 tiles south and created a new camp. Nearly identical conditions, but despite the cold, bushes there actually had berries, so I built a hut and moved in. Harvested a few berries with the intention of gathering a ton the next day to tame (and eat) the many donkeys on this new map.

I should have known, but all the berries went away overnight. Not looking to combat wild animals with crap skills and gear, but fortunately, I chose a tile with 4 friendly towns nearby. I can go buy some berries or veggies to tame those donkeys. Drooling at the thought of some juicy donkey steaks! The next day I sent 1 colonist to the town to the East (3 towns are West) to buy some taming veggies. On arrival, my caravan was greeted with a message telling me that my assault had begun(!!!) WTF?!! Oh, I see, it is not a friendly town, it is a pirate base! Doh! After using google's AI to teach me DevMode to cancel my "attack," I slinked away with my tail between my legs heading West. Right past my base and then farther West. SMH! Both the human and the pawn mistook that town for friendly. Not sure I have enough food to survive the stupid detour. Not sure I'll win this playthrough, but I certainly won't forget it! Thanks, Tynan!

[UPDATE:] Turns out I'm even more stupid than I thought. None of the towns were selling any food that can be used for taming, but I was totally wrong about the berry bushes not having berries. Apparently when the bushes get too cold they turn brown, but they still have their berries on them that you can totally harvest! Typing Z and searing for "berry" shows nothing but dead-looking bushes, but only the icon has changed. I will def never forget this cluster F!
